I haven't signed in in like 5 years. Naturally, my great username was taken. I have no problem with picking a new one, but when I go to the username page it tells me it wants $10 of cold hard realworldcash that I could use to buy Taco Bell or something. Is there a way to do this for free? I need a username I wouldn't be ashamed to show to my grandma. Pet names, too. What page do I access my free pet name changes on?
Related to the above: is there a list of what counts as a swear word? I remember pet names being pretty wild back in 2006. Looks like stuff has changed?

The rules about pet names and swear words have always been there. If at any point you have a question about a pet name you are interested in using, please file a ticket before creating the pet so that a staff member can give you a yay/nay on it. :)
Do file a ticket about the name change. Name changes under your circumstances (your username was taken while you were inactive) are supposed to be free, but sometimes the freebie expires. We'd be happy to gift you a free name change anyway, but you'll have to write in.
As Dill explained if it was taken it should offer a change for 0 csc. Do you have events saying what names were taken? Usually there's one with a link to change that specific name for free.
On topic of name changes theres a couple open pet name threads to browse. Maybe some might be neat?

I have an event for one pet, but it just links to the generic pets.php page. The others don't have events.
Re pet name rules not changing: Huh, that's strange! Maybe everything just seemed more shocking when I was a teenager.
