what's the use of laying flowers for the survival memorial? I found flowers...and put them there. But I don't get why I should continue doing it. Nothing happened.

There is an achievement called Leave a Flower. It has several tiers a a title prize if you leave 1500 flowers.

The title is: Got Laid

or you could also view them as free Fragmentizer fodder. I have found my extras to be a good source of Humming Power Crystals that way.
