i've been trying to get back into neopets lately and it's REALLY put into perspective just how much we have in the way of amazing features, competent programming, and beautiful artwork here on subeta! it's easy to take a lot for granted but just. WOW. this is a good site that looks and functions great.
yeah we have our hiccups but think how quickly pages load on a regular day. how there's no heavy reliance on flash to make your CPU usage spike and throw your laptop fans into a tizzy. how it seems like the site was put together by, i dunno, professionally capable web designers and developers? how you DON'T feel like you're logging in every day just to grind out a little more money so you can inch just that teensy bit closer to being able to afford ONE cool thing!
after using subeta for so many years, i think a lot of us begin to lose sight of what we have here; sometimes there are frustrations, and we get upset. and i think it's great that the staff of this site care enough about keeping it high quality that they'll actually listen to us and continually strive to improve things. i also think it's important to remember how good we have it and try not to get TOO grumpy over the little things. :)
^ preach
remember that staff are people too, and they also obviously get frustrated when the site goes down! it isnt isolated to just members, but i don't think criticism thats borderline nasty does any good for staff morale.
just think back years ago when subeta went down for days at a time; we've come a long way, as a site and as community, and i hope each day we get better and better.
thank you, the subeta team, for all of your hard work. know that it noticed, even if you don't feel it.
thank you staff for keeping the site smooth and fresh and fun, sorry you have to deal with poopy people sometimes but we appreciate y'all
So good to see a post like this! Kudos to you - This site has gotten remarkably more stable in recent years, and every time I see somebody complaining about having to wait 30 seconds for a page to load during a time of super high traffic I want to roll my eyes. I remember how this site was 12 years ago, and I've watched it get better and smoother thanks to the hard work of people like who really do not get enough love.
Threads like this should show up more often, they really should. It's so easy for people to complain when things go wrong but for some reason hardly anybody thinks to say "thank you" when they're running smoothly, when that's what should be getting attention. Running a site like this and providing constant content is difficult, especially with such a small team, and the fact we get updates and maintenance almost daily is more than many of us deserve.

Subeta isn't perfect but then again who is?
No matter the faults the site may have, it is still a great place to hang out... not to mention the art is wonderful and the people are kind. :D
And a big thank you to the staff for all their hard work~
I honestly LIKE that subeta isn’t perfect? Maybe I’m just weird but I like that it’s not completely perfect and that staff is actively working to make things better and easier.
Sure we have times where there’s lag or issues that pop up, but staff do work hard to fix them and keep us in the loop and that’s something most sites just don’t do.
We have fun events where staff even participate which is amazing and rare too. And no matter how much crap gets thrown at them, staff still tries to make things fun for everyone.
I think we have a tendency to sometimes forget staff has real lives and families too, and we can all be rather impatient when events come up, but all in all staff are pretty great at keeping us entertained and they try harder than most realize.
I have been on a few different pet/avatar sites but no other site keeps me coming back every day. I love it here. The events are great, the plots short and long made things so much more fun and the staff I had been in contact with so far via ticket or other means has always been so very helpful.
Ah neopets. The driving force that sent me here. Of course I'll always have good memories with that franchise as I spent my childhood into teenage years there. Have I outgrown neopets as a concept? Obviously not or else I wouldn't be on another petsite. Have I outgrown the way neopets handles/does anything? ...Yes. My inner child is a bit afraid to know the state of my neopets accounts but I try not to look back. Ever since joining, I've always thought subeta was superior, especially when it comes to communication and customer service. This place is way more comfortable. So thanks Subeta for being the edgy teenage neopets who matured into its own identity and what we have now.
I can say that after last night/early this morning I have a much stronger belief in the Subeta staff and all they do. I already knew they worked hard but yesterday was a disaster for them and they kept their cool, made sure we were updated, and were working as fast and hard as they could. I know how much it can suck when you test things and think you got it all set then disaster hits.
So it may have been a giant mess to fix, but I feel it showed us again how staff are people - but people who care, and the community will support them through these issues.
Virtual hugs to every one of you, and if you don't like to be touched, I'll supply you with a virtual snack instead. Ah heck, take both of you want it!
Neopets is still using Flash? Um, that's going to be deprecated next year mostly because it's a security nightmare. I'm not even sure Abode Animate even supports ActionScript after being rebranded. CSS and js animations and HTML5 video are here to make your computer sound like a plane on the runway instead.
They are switching to a more mobile friendly version and will be considered an app in most respects. Won't link to it but if you pull up google you'll find some articles ^_^
I think it is most likely due to apps being on the rise and how their games will become obsolete.
Fully transitioning to a stand alone app gives them a ton of opportunities to scrape the user data that advertisers and data brokers have an unquenchable thirst for... err. I mean, it's how you keep your game relevant in a mobile ecosystem.
This game is not without flaws, but they are flaws in easily fixed. I believe the antique items can be made less expensive, the lab ray and existence of gender berries able to be made easier to find and the games given more and more interesting prizes. I believe the team can fix these and any other minor problems they come across, which I can't say for any other petsite or social site out there.
As for what said, I believe that his post probably belongs somewhere else, it comes across as slightly off-topic.
I can't agree more! Once upon a time I played Neopets, decided to take a glance at Subeta just to see what it was like and I never went back. Idk I just love the communal feel of Subeta and the admins are SO approachable too. <3
i see a lot of older users (myself included) still kicking around here, and it makes me realize that they've stuck around for a reason!
keith and staff have always been very down to earth and understanding and it means a lot in a world where most pet sites etc these days are in it for numbers and financial gain and not much else
no matter how many times i've gone on hiatus i always check back in every once in a while and i've never been disappointed while catching up, seeing how many things have changed for the better, and appreciating the things that have stayed the same (stuff that's not broke and doesn't need fixing, as it were)
i hope they know that they're loved and deeply cherished, even when hiccups and lag spikes test the limits of everyone's patience; this website has come a long, long way in the 11 years i've been here, and i'm always happy to see it grow.
