DAISY DAY
Daisies are native to Northern Europe but can be found in North America, Australia, Africa, South America and even Iceland and Greenland. The word daisy comes from the Old English language, “day’s eye” because its petals blossom at dawn and shut at dusk. In its home country of England, the daisy is also called a bruisewort. As an old time holistic remedy, the daisies' crushed leaves were used to soothe bruised and blemished skin.
Daisies are part of the Compositae or Asteraceae like they are called today, classified 1792 by the botanist Paul Dietrich Giseke. Flowers in the Composite Family are made up of inflorescences. Inflorescences are clusters of little flowers that seem like one big flower, but actually are many smaller flowers clustered together.
It is the largest flower family known. The family currently has 32913 accepted species names!
Most members of the Composite Family are annual or perennial herbs, but a significant number are also shrubs, vines, or even trees. The family has a worldwide distribution, from the polar regions to the tropics, colonizing a wide variety of habitats.
It is an economically important family, providing not only beautiful flowers yet also products such as cooking oils, lettuce, sunflower seeds, artichokes, sweetening agents, coffee substitutes and herbal teas. Several genera are of horticultural importance, including pot marigold, Calendula officinalis, Echinacea, various daisies, fleabane, chrysanthemums, dahlias, zinnias, and heleniums. Compositae are important in herbal medicine, including Grindelia, yarrow, and many others.
Challenge: Design two HAs. Number 1 showing up the beauty of a flower of the Compositae Family. Number 2 depicting a useful herb of the Asteracea or the use of it. Please state to what flowers and herbs you are referring to and post a picture of them. If you have difficulties posting a picture, just send me the link and I´ll do it for you! ^-^

My first entry is based off Bellis perennis (also know as common daisy). I choose this one because is my fav flower, I love it so much. Also, I tried to represent a shy person because daisies are associates with inocence and purity.

My second HA is inspired on Cichorium intybus (also know as chicory). This plant is used for culinary purposes as salad, with pasta or as a coffee substitute (according to our dear wiki lol). This avatar represents a girl harvesting chicory :P

My first is going to be based off of the Dahlia. I know shocking lol. Its actually one of my favorite flowers so I'm kinda excited to share it. They are found mostly around Mexico so I went flamingo-ish kinda?

My herb is going to be Common Wormwood. Now saying its common is kinda tricky. It's best known as the herb to make Absinthe the hard drink, also known as the green fairy hence my HA. But it is also when turned into a bitter it is used to counteract poor appetite, for various infectious diseases, Crohn's disease, and IgA nephropathy.

Today I learned that wormwood and thistle are members of this family. It took me awhile to do this because daisies are not my favourite flowers, sorry guys!
