Sorta sucks when you get online after a while to see all your favorite pet names now have numbers in them.

Your pet name Soaked was taken due to inactivity, you have been given a free name change here for this pet only! Your pet name Cayle was taken due to inactivity, you have been given a free name change here for this pet only! Your pet name Nessie was taken due to inactivity, you have been given a free name change here for this pet only! Your pet name Ireland was taken due to inactivity, you have been given a free name change here for this pet only!

:/

Sorry about losing your pet names. However, it is very easy to log in once in a year. If Subeta didn't allow this or UN purging there would be a ton of names just taken forever by users who are never coming back, which some websites allow and it is a bummer. Giving the chance of logging in once in an entire year is fair. That's like, the baaaaaaare minimum if that of being active here. Again I am sorry about your names. :(

At the temple, there is a poem called "Loss" carved into the stone.
It has three words, but the poet has scratched them out.
You cannot read Loss, only feel it.

That does suck, but I do feel like the one-year timeframe's pretty reasonable... Maybe set a reminder on your computer calendar or phone or something if you think you might be gone a while?

Yeah it kinda blows. I think it's one thing that definitely stops people from returning after a certain point. It's not really designed to keep older players around, but to encourage newer players.

I think its very fair though, if you are gone for over a year it doesn't show much interest in the site or the pet names you have

And yet I see old users posting threads in the Welcome forum about how they've come back after years to play Subeta again. 😕

It would be a whole other situation if you lost your username or petnames and had to pay out of your own pocket to get them renamed. You get a free rename for every pet name taken, and one if your username gets taken.

And if you couldn't find even 5 minutes to log in during the past year? I understand being frustrated for losing your petnames and I'm sorry, but I feel that that's kind of on you. ._.

I'm not saying it's someone else's fault. I'm just saying it blows. It's a bummer, dude! And yeah, some people come back to playing after a while anyway, I never said it was every single old player. I'm just saying it's discouraging when you come back and see your stuff is gone. ¯(ツ)/¯ We can discuss old user retention when it comes to Subeta's old inactive forums but not in its UN and pet name policies?

It also kinda sucks to see everyone who says anything about it get bombarded with "well it's your fault" even when the OP says in the title they understand the system. I don't think I've seen a post about it that doesn't have people going off about how little anyone cares about the site if they let their names get taken, as if you'd actually prefer them logging in once a year for 12 seconds just to hoard names and not even play.

Idk man I do care about the site quite a bit and I can imagine how much it sucks to lose the pet names, I'm just commiserating here!

Oh no, I agree with you - it does suck to lose your petnames, and the comfort of free renames is small in comparison, but at least it's there if you decide you want to start playing again. ._. But on the flipside, I've also seen users who just hang around for a few days after a newsletter goes out and then they don't come back for months, often until the next newsletter goes out. So any active, playing & paying users who'd "do something" with those names are SOL too.

The system's definitely not ideal, but I feel it's as good as it can be with the current mechanics.

Yeah, it sucks. Its unfortunate that you couldn't log on for a year.

There's usually upsides and downsides to most policies like this.

I would rather lose some names than lose my entire account. I made my first account when inactive accounts were cleared, and I had to start all over when I decided to try Subeta again - not that I played much and had much to lose way back then, but if that happened nowadays, that would hurt.

But still, stinks that you lost names, OP. I know people say it's easy to log in for five seconds, but I imagine that there are situations in which Subeta doesn't even register in your mind.

Is a reminder every sent out to inactive users? Maybe that'd be a great way to try draw them back before their names expire. :)

Maybe like a month out before it happens?

I want to say a warning used to be sent out? But as with the newsletter, you run the risk of shafting users that actively pay, play and wait for names to be cleared.

Inactive User signs in when prompted by the e-mail, looks around, "... eh, whatever, I don't have time for this right now", leaves until the next e-mail comes in. Or they keep popping in periodically but never manage to get into the game for a long-term because they don't have the time.

Depends on what the site thinks is more important, a potential returning player or pleasing a current active one.. which is a debate that has been going on for decades. :P

I lost one of mine, but I think its ok. It keeps pets obtainable and less rare. God knows a certain market of another site is insane and nortorious for such rarity of "pet names" and their worth.

I didnt have the intention of coming back, but I was hooked. Now im onto my third and fourth pet!

I do feel for you, OP, and don't necessarily blame you. Yeah, I have definitely benefited from the current system with some of my names and so it would definitely be hypocritical to speak against it in any way. As it stands, I don't see anything wrong with freeing up names after they have been sitting on inactive accounts for a while. At the same time, though, I know that life happens, and it isn't completely fair just to say, "Well, that's your fault for not caring enough."

While I'm not very active here anymore, I do make it a point to log in from time to time to see what's going and so I can keep my account active. But there have also been sites I've played and forgotten about for a year or two. In a couple cases, I lost things. And while I was able to just cut my losses and start from scratch, I do understand how it can be frustrating and sympathize. I wouldn't even be opposed to the time of inactivity being increased (say, 18 months instead of a year), but I know that's a whole other can of worms.

Oh, I know! But in this case, the returning player does get compensated (they don't have to pay for the renames themselves), they keep everything on their account, and the active players have incentive to keep playing and paying. So I still think that it's as balanced as it can be at the moment. ._.

It blows to lose petnames, but the site can't really hold your hand indefinitely while you umm and ahh over whether you should come back or not. Not when there's other members who are willing to pay for pet renames, petslots, and the site needs the money.

I know the feeling OP. I lost one of my names because a lot of bad shit happened and I was unable to get online within the year(I was evicted, lost a lot of my savings, several family deaths, massive depression just everything hit me with their worst at once). I even lost access to my old email due to hacking, that was fun.

I do think the system is fair though and it's a hell of a lot easier than starting from scratch.
