these icons have been around for ages. maybe it's time for something a little more modern and easier to work with? honestly i'd love it if even just the shadows could be removed/made low-opacity black.
Ohhh yeah, those things are definitely due for an update, big support
they are also so tiny. I feel the new icons should at least be the size of the battle icons :heal: just so they are better visible.
ha i would just end up resizing them to make them tiny again
Support! I never paid much attention to them, but just now I looked at one of my profiles with a dark background and the shadow looks awful! Now it's always gonna jump out at me :P
Heh, my gut reaction was that this topic was going to be a fair bit more controversial...
But anyway, support! They're really quite ugly with how pixely they are. I had never really looked at them much, but I zoomed in just now, and oof.
Support!
They are pretty awful.

Support. I think the user icons could be stand to be updated as well.
Looks like new icons are potentially in the works! :D
Is there a reason why the gender icons need to be pixel art, opposed to being text symbols (♀, ♂ , and ○)? I'm assuming because of browser compatibility or something along those lines. It seems like it would easier to use the respective unicode otherwise.
I'm not opposed to the icons being updated though if we can't use unicode. I would like however, for the pink/blue colors to be done away with and the new icons just be black.
Support for updated icons without shadows and without being coloured pink and blue. Glad change is happening. c:
oh yeah good idea about the colours! we dont need that generic gendered colour stuff here. i personally hide them on profiles i work on, but i'm all for supporting this
im glad this was brought up. the blue/pink thing bothers me. our pet pages arent baby showers alright we're mostly adults here we all know pink isnt 'just for girls' and blue 'just for boys'. plz.
I would prefer the colours to be a choice. Knowing the gender of my pets at a glance is super helpful, I'm pretty forgetful and before the price change I had multiple pets that had the wrong gender and the colours helped be quickly figure out who was which haha.
But I'm all for updating the icons in general.
you can change them with this code. the background image can be just a blank 8x9 pixel transparent box. idk if I should ping the others Px
.pet_color_info img { display: inline; -moz-box-sizing: border-box; box-sizing: border-box;
background: url(https://i.imgur.com/jqFJrVy.png) no-repeat; width: 8px; height: 9px; padding-left: 8px; }
example: Obscurity
I'd like them to keep the colours because a lot of users notice the colour before we notice the symbol, me included. So the colour can also be seen as an accessibility feature.
@ Neoixan Huh. Wouldn't that be against the rules though? I thought we're not really allowed to mess with a pet's gender display on the profile. Now I'm curious!
Did you fill a ticket and ask?
having them be text-based would be nice if possible - evidently it's not a matter of browser compatibility, but of making sure the user has the appropriate fonts on their operating system. this can be accounted for by using CSS to ensure the browser downloads the necessary font(s) in case the user doesn't already have them.
(fun fact: on crepuscular's profile, i hid the pet info and retyped it manually, using ○ for their gender marker so it could match the profile better.)

As long as its displayed somehow im pretty sure its fine. Some people change it for text or just change the color but the gender remains. Some times people delete all of the text and rewrite the color/species/owner elsewhere. Seen it on some spotlights as long as its static on the page.
I remember it being an issue in the earlier days of the spotlight. You weren't allowed to hide or remove the whole "PETNAME, the
common kumos" text, even if you displayed it on a graphic.
That's why I was curious! I don't know if the rule changed, or if the rules for pet overlays apply to gender icons too, as long as the male icon isn't replaced with a female one, for example.
