obviously im not in the guts of the site, but i do have web dev/gfx design schooling, and im just wondering what's up with server response time sometimes? is it the # of php requests slowing it down or what? it's been ok today, but the other days i was here, it would slow to a crawl on the regs. anyway, it'd be cool if that could be resolved somehow, but i get that changing the systems would be a big task and u might not have the $$ for bigger servers for yr php dbs.

Legit thought this post was going to be "Wow what's going on the site is working!"

Now I thought I read ages ago that there were Virtualized servers that could be spun up and brought down for heavy traffic bc Cloudflare ends up at Amazon so...is the site using AWS?

Anyway...are the virtualized servers just not being used anymore?

From what I know, Keith tried migrating the site to Google but it wasn't successful, so Subeta's still using AWS. He also wrote code that would automatically run additional servers depending on the load. Servers are mostly virtualized nowadays, and running extra servers incur additional costs, so they are only used when necessary.

There's some updates very recently:

Just a quick update - we may have identified the root cause of the lag incidents we have had on and off since (around) Luminaire. The nature of the issue explains not just the forum/wardrobe breaking the way they did, but also why it was resistant to a lot of our debugging techniques. Catching this culprit... well, it’s still too early to tell, but there is a chance these lag incidents will be resolved completely.
