TLDR: We changed how the total amount of sP and total items sold are calculated. Those numbers have been returned to your shop fronts (yay!). Sales history has been cleared entirely, but will be on a much smaller cache now and actually update as things are purchased from your shop.

Technical Explanation We've been recording all of the database queries on the site that have been causing the most strain, and one that continues to plague us was the table containing your shop sales data. You've likely noticed that we made those numbers present as 0 on your shop page, and that your shop log has massive caching on it that makes it almost entirely useless.

This was due to the way that we were storing this data in our database, each purchase with a row in a table that never expired (so we could have the total numbers). Instead we now have columns logging that data on the user shop table, and can purge the user sales history after a week. That table had got to 6GB with over 83 million rows of sales data. You all sell a lot of items in your shop!

Throughout today a conversion script has been running to pull the data for your shops from the massive sales table, and convert it into the single rows and it just finished running!

Makes sense to me --thanks a lot for doing that for us and the site. You and your staff work very, very hard for us and I appreciate it. One of the best games online but most people online know that. This is a very well-respected site I know that from using online game development sites.

Thanks for the info! I was just curious about why it was chosen to be done this way, because I think a lot of the major shops on site are probably capped? It's just that 2bil in sp is a lot less than it used to be haha. xD

This update might just have triggered a small bug with a achievement. My shop total is 790,581,484 yet when I just checked it just triggered the Making a living achievement for 1,000,000,000 sp Either the total shop amount is not displaying correctly for me or the Making a living achievement is triggering incorrectly.

I'm all in favor of optimization. To me however it's a bragging measure of marketing/selling acuity and not necessarily a measure of how big a shop is (although I did indeed have a legacy shop that was positively humongous). Users brag on having all-the-plushies and having read all-the-books and those numbers still go up. I gave up those opportunities because instead I enjoyed better than achieving those the pleasure of being in the old top ten list for most sales/biggest shop etc.

Can we have a rollover to zero like what happens on a car you have replaced the transmission on a few times, please? And then an extra field that shows how many times it rolled over like 2 billion ++ and then 2 billion +++?

I am not assuming the worst intentions when you make changes. But what you don't realize is that many of us play here and set goals. (usually based on your rules)

It’s not that it’s an easily gamed number, I like knowing how much sP I’ve made from my shop. I even took a screenshot of my old one when the new shops were introduced. It’s not for bragging rights, it’s just something we enjoy as shopkeepers and one of the ways we keep track of our milestones as users.
