NATIONAL ENTREPRENEUR’s DAY
From fire to the wheel to the airplane or rocket and the antibiotic to the microchip, radical inventions by brilliant minds have shaped the way we live today, along with our future. Entrepreneur’s Day is an annual event in the USA that honors those men and women who have built an empire from absolutely nothing, often yet not always becoming rather wealthy in the process as well. It is celebrated at 20th of November and several additional global events take place. When you think about it, the world is crammed with great products that we took for granted, but that were once non-existent until they were somehow dreamed up by a budding entrepreneur or inventor!

Outfit Not Found Tesla was born during a thunderstorm, had insomnia and a photographic memory, hated pearls and germs, and never married. There are like, 300 patents on his name, including tesla coil, neon lamp, remote control, induction motor, and of course alternating current. He also had ideas for (but sadly never developed) technology for smartphones, radar, X-rays, radio astronomy and an actual effing "death ray" particle beam.
Outfit Not Found My own inventor has an obvious love for -punk technology and developed an artificial animal companion. Like japanese companion robots, this small fellow understands both words and body language, answers in easy sentences and is made to love and support lonely and ill people. To show some love to mother earth as well as to humans, it's steam and solar fueled and fully made out of recycled materials.
A little bit of a theme here: One inventor working to save the world, the other planning for if that doesn't work....

Prepper Ready Catfood
My invention idea is for those folks out there trying to stock up their bunkers and take care of their pet cats. Should the 'world end' or there be some other interruption in our modern supply chain us cat people are going to need a stockpile of cat food with a long shelf life. Dog lovers will be fine because by and large dogs can eat human food but cats on the other hand are obligatory carnivores so they are going to need food with a high protein content. So my HA is depicting trying to come up with 'prepper' ready cat food before it's too late.
There are so many different renditions of what Lady Mary looked like, so I chose the three I thought I could replicate the closest. Besides the things she did for humanity I thought a quote attributed to her was pretty funny for her time era.


Lady Mary was among those responsible for saving more lives than any other human being in human history: in 1721 she brought the practice of inoculation from Turkey to Britain, and to the West in general. Along with the later work of Edward Jenner, Robert Sutton, and countless other medical practitioners, her actions eventually resulted in the total eradication, in 1979, of smallpox. Smallpox was perhaps the world’s biggest killer, claiming the lives of 300–500 million people in the 20th century alone. Of those who became infected, about a third died, and even its survivors would have to live with its horrible effects: 65–85% of survivors were permanently scarred, and in some cases left completely blind.
It was Lady Mary’s brave actions that marked the beginning of the end for this terrible scourge. She was the wife of the ambassador to the Ottoman court, and while stationed in Adrianople (Edirne), Belgrade, and Constantinople (Istanbul), she observed that inoculation was practiced in Turkish folk medicine, particularly during epidemics.
Inoculation, or “variolation” (from the Latin word for smallpox variola), was not quite the same as vaccination — at least, not in those days. It involved collecting the fluid from the pustules of a smallpox victim, or crushing up the material from their scabs, and then scratching the skin of the person you wished to immunize against smallpox, and rubbing the puss into the scratch. The patient would still get smallpox, but usually of a much milder sort. (It still, however, involved the risk of death — this is where Edward Jenner came in, as he discovered that he could instead immunize against smallpox by using the pus from non-deadly cowpox (varolae vaccinae). Incidentally, vaccination thus takes its name from the Latin for ‘cow’. The word has since been applied to all sorts of other diseases because of Louis Pasteur, who named his methods of immunizing against anthrax and rabies in honor of Jenner’s discovery.
But without Lady Mary, there could have been no Jenner — he would have had no technique upon which to improve. She was herself a survivor of smallpox, and had lost her only brother to the disease. So she realized the benefits of inoculation, being aware of the risks, but also recognizing that falling prey to an epidemic was likely to be even worse. Like some other Westerners in Turkey, she had her 5-year-old son inoculated by the embassy surgeon, Charles Maitland. But it was her next step that transformed the world: upon her return to England, a smallpox epidemic broke out, and she made the difficult decision to inoculate her daughter. This was the first inoculation in Western Europe, and it was a sensation.
She endured condemnation of doctors, the media, and even some clergymen. She was even shouted at in the streets for being an “unnatural mother”. But she persevered, becoming an untiring advocate for the technique. The breakthrough was when she convinced the Princess Caroline, wife to the heir to the throne, to take the procedure seriously. Caroline should perhaps also be recognized for her role in saving so many hundreds of millions of lives: she arranged an experiment on prisoners in Newgate prison. Six prisoners, all condemned to the gallows, were offered the chance to save their lives and gain their freedom if they underwent the procedure. The resounding success of the trial was a huge blow in favor of the technique, and Princess Caroline had the royal princes and princesses inoculated soon afterwards, helping to convince the medical profession, and society at large.

Shortly after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Stephanie Kwolek began working at the chemical company DuPont, where she would spend 40 years of her career. She was assigned to work on formulating new synthetic fibers, and in 1965 she made an especially important discovery. While working with a liquid crystal solution of large molecules called polymers, she created an unusually lightweight and durable new fiber. This material was later developed by DuPont into Kevlar, a tough yet versatile synthetic used in everything from military helmets and bulletproof vests to work-gloves, sports equipment, fiber-optic cables and building materials. Kwolek was awarded the National Medal of Technology for her research on synthetic fibers and was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 1994.
