NATIONAL BUTTON DAY
Once simply ornamental in nature, the button as a means to fasten clothes has been around since the 13th century. And since buttons as a fastener date back to 13th-century Germany, we have to celebrate them! :-) Throughout history, people went so crazy for buttons they even became a status symbol for a time.
Since then, a wide variety of materials like wood, clay, shells, and plastic have been used to make buttons in every size, shape, and color. A button jar can morph into a great craft project, extra game tokens, or fashion embellishment.
Buttons can even be works of art, so take time to appreciate those useful, pretty little things on National Button Day. Collectors love finding ones depicting mini works of art or reflect a certain era.
And did you know? Women's clothing traditionally buttons on the right (reportedly because it was easier for maids to dress the ladies they served that way) and men's on the left (they dressed themselves).
Also, the things you can make out of buttons are endless. Rings, hair ties, preschool learning games, clothes pin racers, tree ornaments, earrings, magnets, picture frames, and whatever else you can think up. Buttons offer inexpensive rainy day fun, imaginative play for all ages, and are a great cure for boredom.
Challenge:
Create a HA with many buttons! Please don´t forget to use surroundings as well.

Unfortunately, the buttons on her waistcoat are hidden by the buttons on her frock coat, but when Juliana Malfoy dresses boystyle, she likes things with lots of buttons on them :)

coat buttons, boot buttons...
one of my favourite facts about humanity is we were using buttons as decoration since around 2800 bce, but it took us til the 1200s to start using them as fasteners. that's like, 4000 years of not realising that you can put the thingy through a hole and then it stays. humans are dumb and i love it.
I personally have a real life love-hate relationship with button-down shirts for women. I think they look so classy when paired with the right accessories and bottoms. But if you have any sort of chest, forget it... The buttons never lay correctly and there's always a gap... SMH

I can relate! I found many buttons in one of the drawers of my great grandmother's sewing machine a few years ago and it was magical <3
