A whole whopping 25 cents an hour raise. A quarter. What the actual fuck. I have been working here for almost four years. I've called in sick maybe twice in that whole time. I do so much extra for all the different departments and my boss damn well knows it. I never complain when I'm given extra work. I actually ask for it. I take extra shifts whenever I can. I help my coworkers with their problems. I help the residents when they need something - hell, I took a woman's pants home the other day and sewed them for her. I am a goddamn model fucking employee. And the thanks I get is a review that's eight months late and the raise is only a tiny fucking quarter. I feel so offended and hurt right now, I can't think straight.
Tomorrow, when I am thinking straight...well, maybe Monday...I am going to do something about this. A letter to corporate, I think. Anonymous of course. Maybe some emails to corporate, HR at least. And I'm going to see what I can do to get into this $15/hr for everyone movement. I might just be looking for another job too, one where I'm appreciated. I want to punch a hole through the fucking wall right now. Or maybe curl up in a corner and cry. Actually, I think both.
Hey, i'm super sorry to hear that. They're completely disrespecting you with that treatment and i'm glad you're going to go after the raise you deserve.
I hope they realize what an amazing worker they have with you!
Be glad that's what you got. I saw a whole whopping 4 cents one year and a dime another year with Wal-Mart. The dime was my highest raise with them. Rarely missed days or even had to go home sick. Filled in for others or stayed later. Learned 7 departments fully and knew basics of 4 others and to them I was only worth the least they paid plus a few cents.
FINALLY GOT THE 15K WARDROBE DONE!!!!! Next up gutting and selling it.
Depending on your current wage, this isn't all that bad considering the fact that a raise is not always that big either. I've seen different raise over the years of helping out people and their rights. But as long as you are not being underpaid (by the minimum wage your state has issued), it's withing their and your rights.
Raises are calculated with performance, projections, qualifications of their workers and benefits increases (if there is any). I'd sugget you to research your own company and their usual wage raise before jumping up. If there is at least a 2% average, it's good.
I'd probably put your energy towards looking for a new, higher paying job, instead of writing a letter which is frankly going to do nothing, lbr. Corporate/the business won't care, sadly.
However make sure they prorate you back to when your review was due. Check into it and if they owed you the review and subsequent raise they owe you the 25 cents per hour til back then. But yes do research and find out the max raise cap they provide at reviews.
Also an edit: When I get my measly raises at Wal-Mart they have me sign papers and go over changes at the review. If a raise kicked in 2 weeks ago they let me know that I got the new rate starting the day the raises were issued. So sometimes you may already be getting it without them having time to address it with you.
