I’m really curious if anybody is doing keto! If you are, what’s your experience? How do you feel? Do you feel like it’s been beneficial? Tell me about your experience!
I've been on a very strict Keto diet since the beginning of September. I decided to do this diet to lose some weight before I get pregnant again and it has been working very well.
I eat a max of 20 grams of total carbs most days (once in a while I go over but rarely) I count carbs every day to keep track.
I eat mostly meat, veggies, Caesar salad and sea food. I NEVER eat pasta, potatoes or sweets. The only sweet thing I have is carbonated water with sweeteners that don't count as carbs and a protein shake that is low on carbs and high in protein.
So far in just over 2 months I've lost 41lbs.
I've noticed some big changes in my life since starting this diet. I have MUCH more energy. I don't get tired nearly as fast. I can do physical activities a lot easier and a lot longer. And I don't need as much sleep as I used to.
Before getting up at 6am or 7am was impossible. I would be so groggy and a miserable mess. Now I can get up early easily and be fully awake within a few minutes.
I know this diet isn't for everyone and it is very hard to stick to especially if you love pasta and sweets (I miss them so much) but it's helped me get to almost half my weight loss goal in just over 2 months so I am thrilled.
I learned about this diet from my father-in-law who HAD to go on this diet to help manage his diabetes. Since starting this diet he's lost over 30lbs as well (though he eats well over double the carbs I do daily and he's been on it longer) and he is taking 1/3 of the insulin he had to take before he started this diet.
I hope this helps <3
I looked into keto but decided it wasn't for me. If you have any sort of kidney problems, it's the last thing you want to do. That includes a history of kidney infections and stones. I try to eat keto based meals but I can't do the full diet because I have kidney stones thanks to genetics
I'd recommend doing your own unbiased research. That's how I found out about the kidney thing
I don't do full-blown Keto, but I do try to eat low-carb for the most part, although, I have been a bit bad recently. The only thing that makes the diet hard for me is having to cook so often because of my work schedule and I stream on twitch on top of that. I do plan to get back on track for the most part. I wasn't experiencing crazy weight loss but maybe if I add in a bit more exercise it will help.
I'm strongly considering it. I need to fix my sugar addiction for sure and no way in hell am I going to go plant-based (honestly, zero-carb would appeal to me so hard if I didn't like fruit). Also, it's a great diet for celiacs (no gluten!)

I'm on it. I'm not as strict on it as my brother is but so far it has helped me a lot. I found out my stomach is sensitive to carbs which is one of the reasons I used to get crippling (and I do mean crippling) stomach pains. It also helped control my high sugar levels (I'm diabetic) they're still kind of high but no longer reaching the 15 - 20 mark lol, so, so far my experience has been a pleasant one. It was hard the first week while my body got over the carb and sugar addiction and I admit, I was like a bear with a sore head. But it was way worth it in the end. There's lot's of stuff you can eat including keto friendly bread and cakes so you're not really losing out on a lot.
My boyfriend and I were on it for, like, a week. We both went off of it for different reasons. I went off of it because I have depression and I'd had my depression symptoms under control due (amongst other things) in part to changing my diet. When I went on the Keto diet, my depression symptoms flared up and then some. I would go from crippling depression (to the point where I was crying myself to sleep every night, for no reason and had to be physically removed from the bed and dressed by my boyfriend just so I could go to work) to full-on blackout rage (absolutely nothing would set me off). For the sake of my mental health, I went off of the diet and back to what I was doing before and my symptoms went back to normal.
My boyfriend has IBS and chose to go on Keto because a lot of people reported that their IBS was cleared up after going on the diet. So, having struggled with IBS for years, he decided to try the diet. Unfortunately, due to what his triggers are and what is involved in the Keto diet (using oils, butters, etc) it caused his IBS to flare up worse than ever. So, he ended up going off of it after a couple nights where we thought we were going to have to go to the hospital because he was in so much pain.
I know that it works for some people but I have yet to meet anyone who has stayed on it for more than a couple of months. It's expensive and, for me anyway, WAY to restrictive. I've since gone back to a primarily plant-based diet with occasional meat here and there. I also find that the diet lacks a lot of ability for choice so you're often stuck eating the same foods over and over and over again. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it.
I personally like eating in a "keto" style. Ive found I have a hard time keeping on weight, and this diet for me helps me not lose too much weight and not gain it back to quickly either. I need the heavy protiens to slow my high metabolism, but I still burn through carbs and fats like no ones business.
In my experience it seems to work well for those who are morbidly obese and those who have diabetes. I think it was originally developed to help those with epilepsy? But for most people it's just not sustainable. However it does seem to help people lose pounds quickly, so I'm all for it if it's helpful to those who need it.
I tried it but, as someone else said, it's expensive, and I don't like meat very much. The high saturated fat content of the diet worries me too. I've found I personally feel healthier on a mostly plant-based diet with the occasional chicken or fish.
Plus I love bread too much. That too.
