This lesson contains a PRACTICAL assignment. Please remain in character. Any out of character comments should be put behind spoiler tags! ** This lesson was written by of Hufflepuff - she has been awarded 75 House Points!

The students walked out onto an open field among the school grounds. A sign posted at the normal Charms classroom informed all the today’s lesson would be held outside. From their perch, the students had a spectacular view of the lake which looked particularly enticing on such a warm day. There were a few sighs as some already felt discomfort from today’s intense sunlight. The muffled thump of his cane pacing through the grass brought the students attention to Professor Norman as he drew near. He chuckled, holding his hand to his mouth as if to hide the sound. “What’s this? I thought it would be such a lovely day to have class outside, and yet you lot look ready to turn in. That’s good motivation though; it will make accomplishing today’s lesson all the more refreshing.” He gave a final wink before introducing the topic.

“Today you will be learning the Water-Making Spell. Observe: Auguamenti.” Upon his utterance of the word, a dazzling fountain of water blew up from his cane, somehow still encased in ice despite the abnormal heat. “Keep in mind, this is considered a rather difficult spell. It is a charm that is also classified as conjuration, an advanced brand of Transfiguration. The action to cast the spell is smooth and fluid, much like water. The intent one has as they perform the spells can have a drastic influence over the power that is inevitably produced.”

The students stood in place, mesmerized by the magical geyser. “I assure you, it is quite safe.” And with that, Professor Norman twirled his cane around several times to douse the nearby students who could not even complain.

“Yes, the feeling can be quite nice on such a steaming day. As you can imagine, this spell is rather versatile and can be used for a number of tasks. Most important being when one is in a dire situation such as major dehydration. Intermediate knowledge and proper dispensing of this charm will allow the wand-wielder an endless supply of water.” He nodded knowingly, as if he had to use such a spell for that exact purpose. As an afterthought, he noted, “One could use it to fill a swimming pool as well.”

Your assignment today is to RP your character as they attempt to perform the Aguamenti charm. Be aware that in a real situation, not everyone would be successful in casting the spell on the first try. Consider having some fun with it; these are a bunch of kids playing with water, after all. Any effort will be rewarded up to 15 House Points. Creative, hilariously wrong, or interesting spell casts will be considered for extra House Points.

Ravenna had a hard time paying attention to what the professor was saying, but managed to hear the part about the spell they were practicing today(ugh, why did it have to be so uncomfortably hot?). 'Well, it's a good spell to learn on a day like this' she thought, time to give it a try.. 'Aguamenti!' She said, waving her wand a little too forcefully. A wave of water shot out of her wand, making a large pool around her feet..'oops' Apologizing to those nearby, she moved to a spot a little further away, and tried again. 'Aguamenti!' a jet of water shot out of her wand. She smiled with pleasure, and felt much cooler now that she was partially soaked. 'That feels so much better!'

A refreshing morning Lysandra inhaled deeply. She really loved to be outside, in all weathers. The morning was bright and sunny with already climbing humidity. By noon, it would be better to look for protection in the shadows of the towering trees at the lakefront.

Seeing some of her classmates already having fun with water splashing, the young witch swirled her wand around, testing purposes and pondering possibilities. She didn´t need to know this charm so bad, water magic was quite common in her elven home and she had done a lot of it in her last vacations.

„Nengalith……“ she murmured, words often spoken for conjuring the cute little water fairies when the flowers needed additional drenching. Lys felt a well-known feeling building up inside her, bubbling joyful like a well. Some seconds later, a good dozen of tiny water fairies, each only two inches in height, appeared out of nowhere twirling their colorful transparent dresses. They looked around purposefully, getting slightly confused because no field of flowers needed their immediate attention and care. Mischievous little beings like they are, they began to sprinkle Lysandra´s classmates with rainbow-colored water fountains, giggling. Lys looked around, concerend her action would be noticed, yet she smiled nevertheless. It had felt good, seeing familar faces. Reluctantly yet with a smile, she sent the little fairies away and they vanished in a blink, her giggles fading.

Lysandra sighed and approached Professor Norman. „I am so sorry, Professor! I really shouldn´t have called the waiter fairies! I felt this longing for home. Please forget what you saw! I apologize! I´ll try proper wizard magic now!“ she promised, embarassed.

„Aguamenti……“ Lysandra tried to get a feeling for the words of the charm. Agua was water and ment refers to mens which is mind. So water out of mind or mind full of water? the blue-eyed witch wondered. At once, all kind of water-connected things appeared in her mind, shown lively even when she closed her eyes: a tape, a bowl of water, a shower, a water slide, a swimming pool, rain, first a soft and warm summer one, then a drenching cold autumn one accompied by a mild storm which rattled the leaves around. A well showed up afterwards, then a lake, the ocean at last. So it works like this also when you you bring in new ideas, Lysandra noted.

Concentrate now! the blue-haired half-elf reminded herself. Some of her classmates were already puffing and sweating in the rising heat and had charmed all kind of water items, some awesome, some really silly. With a wave-like gesture ending in some top down swirls, Lysandra steered the water flowing from the top of her wand to the array of tumblers the house elves already brought outside for a picnic later. Sparkling mineral water filled the glasses, slightly fizzing. Lys took a sip, yes, this would do. She carried some glasses over to a group of her friends, smiling. „Refreshments! Any takers?“ she invited, very happy that the charm had worked.

An outdoor class is a wonderful thing. Breathing in the fresh air, Nicola watches the professor demonstrate Auguamenti. The pronunciation might be a problem. Her brain wants to put a "Q" in there. "Augua not Aqua. You can do it brain." Nicola mutters. Watching the others making splashes and filling glasses makes Nicola smile. This might be very fun. Holding the letter g in her mind Nicola tries the spell. Nothing? Hm, on closer inspection of the tip of her wand a slight dew seems to have developed on the tip. Concentrating harder, she tries again, "Auguamenti!" A thin stream on water comes out, then a dribble. Nicola shakes her wand and almost tries the spell again when with a slight judder water comes out in a steady stream like what happens with old plumbing. Are spells like that? At least it didn't come out rusty.

Niamh smiled, as she wished she'd known this spell back when she lived in Egypt. Oddly enough, 4A hadn't taught this one, which did seem strange given that it would've made a welcome break from the relentless heat and sunshine.

Waving her wand to practise the movement, she muttered the spell under her breath just to make sure she had it right. Unexpectedly, the timing of her muttering had coincided with the exact point she waved her wand, and a small stream of water trickled from her wand. Spurred on by her accidental success, she took a breath and waved her wand again while saying "Aguamenti!" As she waved her wand, another student bumped into her, and she waved her wand with a little more force than she intended. Her thrill at successfully producing water quickly turned to horror as the stream of water turned into a large wave-like mass. Pointing her wand towards an open space leading towards the lake, she hoped the effect would wear off quickly, or at least the Professor would help her stop the water so she could try again.

Keet was excited for an outdoor class, even if the heat was a bit overbearing. She enjoyed the fresh air, and could hear the birds singing as they flew overhead. She watched intently as Professor Norman demonstrated the water-making charm, thinking how useful it would be on a day such as this one.

When it was the students' turn to try the spell, Keet tried to remember the wand movements so that she could replicate them accurately. Her first attempt didn't go quite as planned. Only a small trickle of water emerged from her wand, as opposed to the fountain that Professor Norman's had produced. "I bet my wand movements were too rigid," she thought. "Smooth and fluid, let's try again." This time, her wand movements were more natural, and she pronounced the spell clearly, "Auguamenti." The water streamed from her wand tip this time, and she smiled, catching some of it in her cupped hand to drink. It was very refreshing, just the thing for a hot day!

Merlin listened to the class and nodded, he repeated in his head the spell Auguamenti several times to remember and learn it well. When it was time to practice however Merlin was not getting any water. "Why aren't I great with water? I like water." He tried again. "Auguamenti!" Once again nothing came out of his wand so he turned the want to his face to see if maybe it was stuck on it. "The professor made it come out somehow...Auguamenti." He said softly and the water splashed his face which made him drop the wand. "It was cold!" He picked the wand up again and decided to tease a few students that were trying to cast the spell as well, so he pointed the wand toward them and said "Auguamenti" which covered the group in water. "Haha!" Merlin chuckled as the others stare at him, but then all smirked and at the same time pointed their wands at him but he shrugged. "You can't even cast it yet." He sticks his tongue out and all said the spell at once, hitting him with a strong shot of water. "AHHHHH!" He slipped and fell on his butt. "Ouch." Everyone laughed, it was his fault in the first place so he pointed the wand again and the water battle begin until the professor stopped them when the entire class was having a water war. "That was a refreshing class." He smiled.

Outfit Not Found Parker tried to listen to Professor Norman. Sweat trickled down her back as the students stood shiftlessly stood in the heat. She'd much rather enjoy the day, weather be damned, from the cool waters of the Black Lake and outside of the confines of class. Parker was pleased with her teacher when she realized the purpose of his outdoor lesson. She wasn't very advanced in Charms or Transfiguration, but she was familiar with the Water-Making Spell because potable water was essential to anyone who spent a lot of time out on the open ocean.

She stepped away from the throng of students and positioned herself in full view of Professor Norman. With a smooth right to left wave movement she said, "agua-MENTI." An icy white light started out the end of her wand and turned into nothing? Was that a bit of mist or was she imagining it? The charm always went right when someone else went to fill her cup. Parker attempted the magic again to no avail. Her mood was darkening although the older students seemed to be flush with conjured water. How many times had she drank from the spell? Hadn't she witnessed it countless times?

"AK-key-oh," she said as she fixated on the lake, hoping that the noise from the crowd of students would cover up her covert incantation. Splat! Parker guiltily smiled at Professor Norman, seaweed dripping down the side of her blushing face. "Sorry Professor! I think I have a few years to go before I master this one myself, but my Summoning Spells are improving a ton."
