So I'll be moving in a few weeks (but I'm in denial so I haven't even packed anything yet lol) to Washington, DC for a job that I got... I stayed home for college (and lived with my family) and now that I've graduated I'm ready to move out.

Does anyone have tips for newbies in DC? Or just moving tips in general?

I pretty much have no clue what I'm doing haha

Congrats! I love DC, it’s a fantastic city (I live 1.5 hours away in Richmond). I don’t know much about living/working there, but it has nice weather, very pedestrian and bike friendly, and lots of festivals and events.

I’m actually moving across the country to Colorado on Wednesday. I’ve only packed like...half of my stuff. So I know how you feel, like...no sense of urgency? Oh well, it’ll get done eventually!

Researching moving tips has helped me a lot. And enlist help from friends and family. If not help, at least moral support. Good luck and best wishes!

I would say in terms of moving anywhere new some key websites can be a big help

Hop on yelp and find out what shops are near you, food and otherwise check out meetup for local events check on the city's website for local events use google maps or something with a map view to scope out shopping centers without driving all the way there try getting a store address off of yelp and use that as your start point

hope that helped. =)

congrats! try not to splurge or impulse buy stuff. ;) the more stuff you own, the more difficult to move becomes.

when packing, make lists with what items are in what box/bag. also put names or numbers on them and label them as fragile or important, if you have such items. - we lost a rare poster, a top, and a pair of pants during our (lost count how many) house move. >.> i also have a feeling we lost more than that, but that's all we noticed, and we're still salty about those lost items. :< (so salty in fact we never mention them) make sure to have at least 1 roll of TP with you - you never know. what if you get there in the middle of the night and no store nearby, and no TP in the bathroom? sure, you can shower right after, but you'll feel better with TP i think (or i would).

I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.
