Another day, another mass shooting.. this time in Canada, to mix things up. link link2 Link3 Commentary on gun control aside, I think there's something wrong down to the very roots of our society :/

As someone born and raised in Ontario, this makes me so sad. It is so scary, seeing this violence in Canada now too. The mentality is spreading and it makes me nervous to go anywhere, especially as I live in a large city as well.
Society is seriously, irreversibly flawed. A fact which, unfortunately, seems to manifest in the form of violence and murder far too often. :(

shit, this rot has spread up north too.....
My one friend was going to go to a concert last night in Toronto and she wound up ill, didn't go and then heard about this. We're a little shook.
But yes, there's something fundamentally wrong here when this shit is spreading.

I've read that the shooter had been mentally ill and had suffered from psychosis and depression. That does NOT excuse what he did but it's a very clear signal that we need MUCH better mental health care. I know many people (myself included) who have suffered while waiting to receive mental healthcare and, when we did, it was sub-par with doctors who didn't really care and just threw medication at the problem. The young man who is responsible for this tragedy was also the victim of another one: lack of decent mental healthcare. Maybe this couldn't have been avoided but better mental healthcare would at least reduce the problem.
My heart goes out to the victims and while I hate what the shooter did I can't help but feel sorry for him too. Again, his illness and what he went through do not in any way excuse his actions but I wish he'd gotten help. Our society needs to do better.
