Last night I stumbled upon some pictures of the staff and faculty during their student years. Here take a look at them.
This week’s theme is Student Life Throwback.
Your challenge this week is to create a Human Avatar depicting one of our Wizarding faculty and staff as students during their time at Hogwarts (Note: The staff table of Wizarding faculty and staff will be provided in the post below to reflect only those who attended Hogwarts in their youth).
Some rules for this challenge: 1.) Please list which teacher and staff member you chose and a reason why you chose to depict the scenario (whether they're in class or in one of their extracurriculars). 2.) Bonus points may be awarded to particularly creative entries!
Each member may only submit one avatar, and each avatar to successfully adhere to the challenge rules and theme shall be awarded 10 House Points!

Bio: Eilidh was born into a family of travelers in rural Ireland. Her parents specialized in alchemical healing and traveled to neighboring villages in order to heal sick guests. From an early age, she began assisting with this work. Her travels have allowed her to pick up on many different forms of medicine and magic. She is skilled in human, animal, beast, and being healing. Eilidh can also spell-cast in three different languages: Irish, English, and Old-Norse.

Bio: Devine was shown the magical world of Astronomy at a young age by her mother, whom used to also be the Astronomy professor at Hogwarts back in the day. She was in no way forced by her mother to take the same career path, as it is very apparent that Devine loves the sky and stars even more than her mother did. She has somewhat of a love-hate relationship with the Divination teacher. They are good friends, but she has yet to understand how the positions of the stars can affect fate like Palladino believes.

When he was in school he got made fun of for his deep love of books and knowledge. His sole ambition was to be a librarian mainly so he could keep studying. His parents wanted him to do something grander. When Jasper left Hogwarts he did try his hand at curse breaking but he didn’t enjoy it. He was very happy when he got his post at Hogwarts, though he doesn’t care for the students borrowing his books. [/spoiler]

Bio: Before she went to Hogwarts, Lindsey Kain didn't have very many friends. Her family lived in a secluded area away from Muggles, and there were not very many wizarding families nearby. To keep herself busy, Lindsey devoured any puzzle, riddle, or game she could play by herself that she could find. Her time at Hogwarts was very different. She made friends quickly and soon found herself not having much time for her solitary puzzles. She found new games and challenges to do with her classmates, but it was never the same. After graduating, she tried a few different jobs, but none of them seem to fit. When she saw that the school was hiring a Caretaker, she decided to give it a shot. Somehow, the subject of puzzles came up in her interview with Mister Burke, and he suggested she try to incorporate challenging the students to games and puzzles into her duties. 'To give their minds a leg up outside of their studies', he had said. He puts on the guise that he isn't approving of her take on the post, but she could see it in his eyes. He's a puzzle and riddle enthusiast too.

How long has she been at Hogwarts? A little more than 20 years
Where is her office located? Second floor
Any special abilities? None.
Bio: Like many other witches and wizards, Deidra Morgan traveled throughout Europe and parts of Asia after graduating from Hogwarts. She took the time to learn what she could about exotic plants, then brought the knowledge into a shop at the cusp between Diagon Alley and Knockturn Alley. Deidra took over as the Herbology professor only 2 years after the Battle of Hogwarts, after Professor Sprout retired. Her shop remains open, but now it is run by her oldest son and his wife. Even though Professor Sprout did a wonderful job at trying to repair the damage the battle did to the grounds, there was still a lot left to do upon Deidra's arrival. Students often ask her if she is a descendant of the pirate Henry Morgan. While she cannot confirm nor deny she is, she likes to lead the students to believe that she is. She has a close friendship with Professor Jade Mathers, though you could never tell from Jade's expressions during their interactions.

Any special abilities? He is able to use wandless magic. Something he learned out of necessity when he lost his wand arm.
Bio: Carlos grew up in a poverty stricken city in Spain, where he learned to speak both Spanish and English fluently, but soon used his amazing skills in vanquishing dark creatures to pay his way around the world as a 'Slayer for Hire'. He has seen and done it all, and is probably one of the most well traveled people to ever attend Hogwarts, despite his hard lot in life growing up. He is married, having saved his wife from a hickypunk twenty-four years earlier, and they have one young daughter that they recently adopted from China.

Bio: Christopher is affectionately called 'Santa' by most of the students of Hogwarts. He's jolly, good-natured, and likes to laugh with a Ho ho ho! He hails from the arctic circle, where he went to school as a young child before moving to England and joining Hogwarts in his 6th year where he was sorted into Gryffindor. He's also very strict about personal space, which is why he took an old classroom as his office. He does not enjoy being touched, except if it's by his wife, 2 children, 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Boggart: An old hag with her hood up and grey hair hanging down in front of her face. Her skin is a yellow-green and she has broken chains dragging from her wrists, walking towards her with her rotting hand outstretched. She had encountered this creature in the deep woods of Romania on one of her trips when she was 20, and never quite outlived it.
How long has she been at Hogwarts? 2 years
Where is her office located? The Headmaster's Tower
Any special abilities? She speaks 27 different languages including Mermish and Dwarfish. She is also a foremost expert in international magical customs. (She's a wizards anthropologist basically.)
Bio: After graduating Hogwarts 22 years ago, she set out to travel the world and learn all there was to know about the international wizarding world as an international liaison for the Ministry of Magic. During that time she has learned 27 different languages including Mermish and Dwarfish. She has also made many friends all over the world, and has become an exceptionally powerful witch. After 22 years of travel, she is ready for a quiet life sharing her knowledge with young witches and wizards. She is a very free spirit, a bit eccentric, and very inquisitive, but she is fiercely loyal to those who have earned it.

Bio: Jade Mathers is a creature of habit. High tea at 4 o'clock every afternoon with her favorite shortbread biscuits. A book before bed. Lights out by 10 o'clock. Her routine rarely varies, except for when it comes to her students. Knowing that Potions is a difficult subject to keep afloat in, she often allows her students to pester her at any time during the day, as long as she is not teaching and--of course--as long as it doesn't keep her from high tea. Her strict habits are thanks to her mother, who ran a tight household. Jade was one of four brothers and two sisters. Her mother found the best way to keep track of that many children was to impose strict schedules for them. Regardless of the restrictions, however, her mother made sure her children knew the importance of family and to be respectful to others. If Jade had ever had any inclination to get married and have children, she would probably have run things the same way. Instead, she runs a pretty tight ship in her classroom. She has a close friendship with Professor Deidra Morgan, though at times she acts like she doesn't.

Bio: During his early years as a student Ferran Palladino was a timid youth who made very few friends. He was often troubled by nightmares, usually concerning those whom misfortune was about to strike, and though he knew that there was no way he could have caused such calamity, he couldn't help but feel tainted by this precognition. Things took a brighter turn however, when Ferran began his third year at Hogwarts and had his first Divination lesson. He felt as though the window to some answers about himself had finally opened and took to the class with great enthusiasm. He was able to learn, among many other things, how to control his nightmares. Feeling that he owed so much to his Divination professor, Ferran decided to take on the position when his own teacher decided to step down.

Bio: Aimee Torres Rosario was born and raised in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She spent the majority of her summers traveling the Caribbean. Her parents claim she could swim before she could walk. Aimee loves spending time at the beach and goes scuba diving whenever she can. While her parents would have preferred for her to attend a school closer to home, Aimee fell in love with the idea of going to Hogwarts, a school her godparents had spoken so highly of. Upon receiving her letter of acceptance to Hogwarts, she begged her parents to go. At Hogwarts, Aimee was hardworking and studious. She was always willing to help anyone struggling with their studies. After graduation, she was offered a position at El Yunke, a school of Wizardry in Puerto Rico, which she accepted. There she has spent eight years co-teaching Ancient Runes. When she found out her alma mater was in need of an Ancient Runes teacher, she immediately applied, wanting a change of scenery. When she is not teaching, Aimee can be found by the Black Lake, reading a book in Mermish or painting. She often asks her old Herbology teacher, Professor Morgan, on ways to improve her lotion making, a hobby she took up while at Hogwarts. She finds listening and dancing to Merengue music and cooking to be great ways to de-stress. It's not uncommon for her to offer students a tasty snack while they work on their Ancient Runes assignments.

Any special abilities? Able to drive a motorbike pretty well.
Bio: After graduating from Hogwarts, Cassandra decided to blend in with the Muggles in order to study them further. Three years into her study, her then girlfriend (a Muggle) decided to teach her how to ride a motorbike, and she was hooked. Unfortunately, she suffered some pretty severe injuries in a crash. Rather than blow her cover and reveal herself as a witch, she allowed the wounds to heal naturally, causing the visible scars to her face and arm. After a while, she longed to return to the wizarding world. She argued with herself over telling her significant other, but in the end decided it was better off that she didn't. They parted ways, and she returned to the wizarding world equipped with new knowledge to share with the students of Hogwarts.

Bio: Kay grew up in Göttingen, Germany. A half-blood, he was given a mixed upbringing, living in a Muggle community with magic only really shown at home.
In his preteen years, he was known to be a bit of a rebel. Feeling invincible after his magical potential developed, he actively sought out risky situations. On a summer night before starting his fourth year at Hogwarts, he snuck out of his house to go to a Weird Sisters anniversary concert. Upon returning he found himself a victim of a werewolf attack. The experience changed him, the scars on his chest and left arm serve as a reminder of the end of his once carefree life. This is our librarian, Mr Cassidy. I figured that he probably didn't have that cool haircut back then, but I did give him a cute little Slytherin skunk with a green hat because skunks can actually make great and cute pets, and I know he likes skunks, though I'm not sure why.
I also chose to depict him in an extremely happy moment of his life in the Common Room, surrounded by his most favourite things in the world.
I picked him because he's a Slytherin, too, and because I also like books, and because he has helped me find a lot of awesome books on magic related to cosmetics and fashion. I know that they're not his favourite subjects but he still helped me find a translation of Cleopatra's treatise on cosmetic potions. (I'm good at languages but Alexandrian Greek is still a bit beyond me, much to the annoyance of my great-aunt Eudokia who keeps reminding me that we're descended from the Ptolemies as well as the Caesars.)

I depicted Professor Deidra Morgan, Deputy Headmistress, Head of Slytherin House and Herbology Professor. Here she's shown in her most favourite class - Herbology. Obviously, after having a small incident with a Snargaluff pod. Another flower has scattered its petals all over Deidra's hair and clothes. Alas, how much she'd love to wear proper work clothing like an overall at greenhouse three, she has to wear her school uniform at all times. Clothing etiquette at Hogwarts had always been strict (school uniform exists for a reason), especially when Professor Deidra Morgan was in school (which was probably in the 70's - the glasses she's wearing were the height of fashion back then!).
I chose Professor Deidra Morgang because she travelled the magical world to learn more about plants and ran her own business in Diagon Alley. Travelling the world proves you're a brave person because you'll never know what obstacles you might face. I admit I think that the rumour about her being a descend of Captain Morgan is amusing - and it would fit her personality as well. Furthermore, she helped me to grow more vital herbs to use for tea - now my tea tastes even better! Being my Head of House, she always has a friendly ear for us Slytherins (as I can't speak for the other houses) to talk about Herbology, Slytherin house or just have a general chat - as long as you don't lose focus on your education.
Elizabeth Amalia Covington ~ Slytherin
Outfit Not Found I chose Professor Aimee Torres because she is my mentor and one of my role models. She swims, scuba dives, and is fluent in Mermish.
I depicted her as a girl fishing in the Great Lake here at Hogwarts. Not many people enjoy its cold waters, so few swim and even fewer attempt to fish among the magical creatures. She always provides such tasty snacks when I visit her for office hours. My favorite is her ceviche!
Parker Lange, Slytherin
I decided to picture Madame Eilidh Glas. My mother is Irish, so I feel a sort of connection with Madame Eilidh. Outfit Not Found I am showing her on the train to Hogwarts because of her history of traveling around with her family. I admire her skills and hope that one day I can be a better healer too. She's holding a book because I figured if she started learning to heal at an early age, she had to have written it down. So she's holding her "book of shadows", as some might call it. Oh, and last but not least, she's still wearing her goldleaf tunic because her dad gave that to her before she left for Hogwarts and it's been her favorite ever since.

Look at this old and yellowed picture of our beloved matron Madame Eilidh Glas, the kind soul of the house. You can see her working in one of the old dungeon labs, taking care of the house phoenix whom ailed a sprained talon. Who hasn´t run to this very woman with a heavy heart and listened to her wise advice? Who wasn´t in a situation already which needed her knowledge in healing of magical creatures whe one of our beloved pets fell ill? The kind soul of a house matron is often overlooked at a place where so many formidable wizards come together. We should cherish her much more and what better day than to begin today with honoring her presence and dedication. Thank you so much, Madame Glas!

Outfit Not Found Before returning to the Muggle world and mastering the motorbike, Professor Cassandra Brookvale was quite adept at flying. She enjoyed the wind in her hair and the thrill of high speed travel! This photo depicts her during an off-period practicing on the pitch. I really admire her adventurous spirit and kind soul, which has always shown bright! I hope to one day be as skilled of a flier (and motorbike-rider) as her. I should really start working on my balance...

I chose to depict Mr. Caswell (or Carlisle as he would have been known then) on the Quidditch pitch, as it's clear that's where his passion was even at a young age.
I admire his tenacity and ability to make his passion a career - first as a professional Quidditch player but now as Flying Instructor at Hogwarts.

I've chosen to depict Professor Ferran Gabriel Palladino in his second year at Hogwarts. Before discovering Divination and the ability to control his abilities in the third year, Ferran Palladino was plagued by nightmares and visions of horrors yet to come. Though he knew that he was not to blame for the catastrophes which befell the people around him, his foreknowledge of the events left him feeling unsettled and guilty. I have presented him here looking pale and sleep-deprived, the memory of his last dream haunting his thoughts even in the light of a sunny windowed corridor.

Jasper Cassidy Private Outfit
I imagine our librarian to be a bit of a solitaire in his Hogwarts student years and so was I when I first started here. It wasn't until recently that I have made more friends but what also made me chose Cassidy is for his love to learn more and more and that I too have. I have a strong desire of knowledge and mastering techniques in the arts of magic that would lead me to great things which is one thing our librarian didn't do and simply enjoyed more looking after his beloved books.
Mr. Cassidy is always very helpful and kind when I ask him about books and topics I'm interest in which makes him one of my favorite staff members. So this is how I imagine him with books piled up all around him as he studied in the library which is like his home. He also has his little book worm pet on his shoulder, that's what I would imagined he had as a pet. He also has his bag lunch in hand because there is no time to go to the Great Hall to eat when there is so much to read!

For this assignment I've chosen Santa, I mean Professor Norman. Though I'm not especially good in Charms, I adore going to charms. Professor Norman is such a big friendly personality that makes everyone feel cheery. I can even relate to his personal space issues (though that's something I've been working on lately)! Though what I know about Professor Norman he might actually be Santa, since he is from the arctic circle and he does have a very familiar laugh.
I was able to dig up this old photo of the Professor for this assignment in the Trophy Room. It's a little faded, but that's understandable since it seems to be from the 40s. I know that You-Know-Who was also at school in the 40s... I wonder if their paths ever crossed? Not that I'll ever have the courage to ask, but it would be fascinating to know more about how the school was all those decades ago.

I imagine that after he came to Hogwarts, he got really into the "Teddy Boy" style of clothing during that time. Lots of leather and gelled hair, for sure. He probably still had his wand then and dressed a little overly warm since he wasn't used to the temperatures of the area yet. Also, may have been a bit of a troublemaker just so he could make friends easier (also possibly to push people away so they wouldn't touch him.)

I have always admired Headmistress Persnickety but I also wonder about the headmistress' life at Hogwarts as a student. My father had told me I would have had to been at Hogwarts to understand. When I found a picture of the headmistress as a fourth year, I finally understood. Headmistress Persnickety had been one with nature. It appeared she spent much of her time in the Forbidden Forest, meeting and befriending the creatures who lived there. This would explain why she is fluent in so many languages, such as Mermish and Dwarfish.
