So ive lost interest in a LOT of things I used to do. Such as making beaded bracelets, coloring, and other things. SO I was thinking maybe it is time to try something new. I can't do anything like knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, ect.. MY hand does not work that way.( I have a mild form of C.P. and cannot even apply eyeliner or mascara cause of it.)

When I was younger I loved dressing up my barbie dolls. I loved all the different clothes and shoes. I also played with my baby doll and dressed it. I guess I really loved dressing things up. I had TONS of barbie clothes.. I was never the type who liked to race or tell jokes or pull pranks.

Im not even sure what kind of hobby to try.

Im open to suggestions.

For those who do not know c.p. is Cerebral palsy. It messes with the motor skills and causes learning disabilities. Mine is a mild case. I can walk,talk,etc..others may not be able to do these things. Ive had lots of physical therapy (I have weak muscles). I have trouble lifting anything over 10 pounds. I have learning disabilities some things I never learned. such as multiplication I did learn it then forgot it and never remembered it. I never learned how to measure so I have to keep looking up which line means what on a ruler.

People with c.p. just can not learn and remember like every one else. C.p. is usually caused by damage to ones brain.. Mine occurred at birth cause of lack of oxygen. cord was wrapped around my throat and I was born late.I did not cry or anything when I was born. Doctor waited to long to deliver me at least that was what all was in my record.

Also for those who may not know c.p. does not mean a person is m.r. M.R. is mentally retarded which is when your IQ is below average. I was always ahead in reading and behind in math. But no one is perfect at everything.

So think before you make those RUDE jokes about M.r. people..(honestly I heard so many in school it was not even funny.we had 2 handicapped people one could not speak or hold her self straight.People are so rude.)

I made clothes in school.. but that was with a sewing machine and the teacher did all the cutting and pattern stuff.. I basically pinned and sewed..I got to pick my fabrics though. made a pair of shorts with elastic waist, 2 tote bags, 2 pin cushions, 1 square pillow.

Making doll or baby doll clothes I guess could be a option.. I could make and sell them.. I could use old clothes for the fabric to save money..(ive got clothes I no longer wear just sitting around). My only concerns:

  1. I have 2 sewing machines not sure if either one still works. (guess I could hand sew..)
  2. It's been over 6 years since I sewed anything..
  3. Ive got no clue on patterns..
  4. I can't spend a lot of money..

PRos

  1. I think I still have 1 baby doll I could use as a model to try things on..
  2. I know I have a bratz doll and a barbie doll I could use as models.
  3. If I have the baby doll I could also use it to make a pattern(once I figure out how to make one).. same for the bratz and barbie doll.

The cutting and the pattern stuff is fairly easy =) All you need are pins and paper. Try looking online for patterns, there are a lot of free ones for what you're looking for. Oh! And for fabric try local thrift stores. You can get old clothes (and sometimes fabric) for cheap that you can cut up and use. Long-ish Skirts have about 1 yard of fabric to use. Free patterns

so could I like lay the bay doll down on some fabric trace around it for a dress and then leave what is it 1/3 inch for a seam? I know the neck I probably have to measure..

you have to account for the width. Try those links, they have free paterns that you print off.

You should try painting. You don't have to even use your hand that hasn't stopped people before. Seriously I just picked up these art cards the other day that were done by the 'mouth and foot painters guild' and they were probably 100 times more beautiful than something I could paint with my own two perfectly fine hands. It must have just taken them a long time to paint the picture.

Don't make the mistake to think it will be perfect from the start ;) it might or might not. however, you can use the old clothes you already have and not use, to check to see if the sewing machines still work, and then practice. I started cross stitching/embroidering and im slow.. i like it more than knitting, for some reason. crocheting usually needs one hand, with the other one needing to hold the part you already worked. but if both your hands are affected, then im sorry for suggesting.. im not crocheting even though it looks easy, i...dont like it :/

you could try dancing too. im very uncoordinated for dancing, but sometimes i do it regardless in the darkness, lol. or writing is another option if you have a big imagination... or you could blog about the stuff you like. you don't need steady hands for typing ;)

i hope this is somehow helpful..

do you know how to make a pattern from a existing piece of clothing? Like a onesie. without the leg part the kind that has the snaps.

do you think Velcro be easier than snaps? Ive never even sewed a button.. Also my sewing machine does have something wrong with it. So I will be hand sewing..I know how to do the invisible stitch I learned that when I made my pillow in school. We just closed the pillows after stuffing them the rest we did with the machine... so ive never completely sewed anything by hand..

Definitely use velcro! Much easier. I've never done snaps either o-o I'd use just a basic stitch, either the one where you knot it with each stitch or just a basic one. Make sure you turn it inside out (print inside, then turn it inside out so the seams are on the inside) but I bet you could do really well starting with onsies and basic dresses. Neither of them are too hard. I'm also sure there are youtube tutorials

Thinking about getting a new baby doll to serve as a model.. My old one a mouse got a hold of the fingers and nose.. Found a new one for just $13.00 comes with a onesie, magnetic bikini, bottle, hat, hand rooted hair, and the eye are acrylic. Im just $0.49 away.. Im seriously that close to owning it but I don't get my income till the 3rd. Sale goes out in 29 days or when they sell out there out ..they have 8 left.. It is a online site. The onesie that is on the doll I could use as a guide. Like for measurements.

Update: well the doll sold out.. Found another one but its is like $33.00

Luckily I have straight pins and my pin cushion. I think I have white thread my other thread is brown and it is the kind that is a bit thicker than regular thread. Im guessing cotton fabric would be my best choice.. I was not taught about different fabrics and how to sew them. the sewing machine was pre set for us.. and the thread was all pre selected..

That's unfortunate about it being sold out... as for fabric, cotton is good, so is rayon and a lot of the woven polyester. Basically use your basic fabrics :) Don't use silk, it's impossible to work with :/

well I found another doll but im bit confused.. doll What does "Open Box return, some dolls may or may not be opened and contain box defects, labels that were not supposed to be on the box" mean? Does it mean the dolls box is damaged but not the doll?

YOu see Im just trying to figure out if the doll is damaged and if the dolls items come with her.. Either im not understanding the post or it just does not state it.

It just means that because the doll may have been previously opened there might be damages done to it or the box. It's just so they can avoid people being like 'omg, you messed up my doll!'

doll is usually 99.99 on the official site.. so it being under 50.00 just had me a bit puzzled.. I talked to the actual company that these dolls come from and that ebay is there account where they sell returns. cause they don't sell returned items on there official site.

I think the dolls face is very cute. but that hair looks thick.. It would need a brush or comb and they said to use one designed for wigs.. cause it is a wig and it is just glued on.

The only doll seller within 400 miles of me has been put in a nursing home..her shop has not been cleaned out though.. she had dolls, outfits and more (she also taught classes on how to make them). Im supposed to call her son he is in charge and see if he will let me in the shop to look and possibly buy some stuff.

I wonder how you make shoes for dolls.. I believe the ones she has on are the same material as her dress..
