Where do you go to disown a pet? Have looked and probably just have overlooked it somewhere.

Go to your pets page and there's a little carrot above where your pets' hunger/happiness/likes are. If you click on it, it gives you options and 'Abandon' is second to last toward the bottom.

it's on the Pets page. For the pet that you want to disown, click the little down-arrow in the upper right area above their Hunger, Happiness, Likes. This gives a menu drop-down. The second-from-last option is Abandon.
