What do you guys think? I'm so glad we get some Cardale development.
I also hope we get some fleshing out of the SAI. Is it like the Subeta FBI? I guess I should have expected that.
I'm a bit iffy on the revamp. But it's nice all he same that he got one at long last. I do hope more SAI involvement comes to be. Would be nice to see that fleshed out a little more.
definitely well-needed and well-executed, though i don't think i'm personally a fan of his general design (not to do with the quality of the art itself).
but, reading through the news post, i realized that we have now come to a point in the subeta timeline where some NPCs have older, very cartoony/anime artwork, some have new artwork that leans slightly more realistic, and most have artwork that exists somewhere in the middle.

well-drawn but in a style typical of older NPC art, with thick lines and stylized shading

more recent than thorpe's art, with thinner lineart, more detailed shading, and slightly more realistic proportions, though still definitely cartoony

obviously stylized but with MUCH more detailed shading and realism in the overall anatomy
it's just a natural result of having artwork drawn over the course of more than a decade by multiple different artists with different styles (and different expectations for style over the years). anyway just a weird thought i was having.
The revamp is nice, though I do kinda wish they would have kept his black tie and pants to go with the "men in black" feel. Maybe that's just me though, ahaha
It's not just about having different artists in different styles, we're also watching some of these artists grow. The same artist (lavabeast) that did the Cardale revamp also drew Thrope [s]and his younger version which is hilarious because he didn't just get younger, he became softer, sleeker, and overall nicer on the eyes[s]... She's also the one that revamped the old Blake and then re-revamped him during the Omens plot. You can also see how the artist (Pie) that did Gunter has grown with Shinwa and Aspen.
that's what i meant, some art is older than others; site art has gone through different phases of aesthetic as the artists have improved, so the difference becomes really stark when you see, for instance, multiple NPCs with art from different years. even ones that aren't especially old or "outdated" become very noticeably incongruous when placed next to newer ones.
I do think it's kinda weird to have such variety in npc styles, but I also get why it happens and how difficult it'd be to update every npc to one style (tho I'm v partial to Gunter's style, from the examples above- new Cardale reminds me of the weird lineless wigs on here that don't really match anything style-wise...)
Regardless he looks 100% better now

The art is lovely and I really like the dynamic pose of the hand/ID, but the forced perspective (hand larger to look like it's closer) makes his head look absurdly narrow at first glance, haha.
I think it'll grow on me :)
... I thought it was a recent revamp and then I noticed that the topic was made last year. :'D

Forums are very slow lately so it's not your fault, and necro rule doesn't apply to site feedback anyway.
I just thought he got another revamp and that threw me for a loop!
