Iambic is a bit of a goofball.
Her character is that of a mailman in one of the cities of my imaginary world. She likes to play pranks, but not mean ones; she would be devastated if she actually hurt anyone. She's about the age of a newly minted adult (think early 20s), and she comes from a middle- to lower-class family.
Her name refers to a pattern of writing used in poetry and plays that is a series of unstressed syllables followed by stressed ones. Usually you'll see iambic pentameter - five groups of unstressed/stressed syllables per line, such as "The fairyland buys not the child of me."
Fun fact: Iambic's last name is Pentameter.
I was thinking about having her be either a devonti or a sheeta to play on the similarities of iamb/lamb, but so far I haven't been happy with the options. I like the storm devonti, but that looks too serious. So does her current galactic sheeta.
I'm hoping that someone else's brain might be able to come up with something else. When I do settle on the right form, I'm going to do an overlay of her with a messenger bag or saddle bags so she can carry around the mail.
Any and all ideas are helpful. She does not necessarily have to be devonti/sheeta.
Why not see if you can make her a species/colour combo that is itself iambic?
A quick flick through the Subetapedia says that Dragarth, Manchu and Zentu are all iambs... there might be ones I overlooked, and of course there's a whole load of species that aren't yet in Subetapedia so no guide on their official pronunciation.
Colour is a bit trickier, I'd be inclined to say that most of the two-syllable colours are trochees/spondees but YMMV? - the only one that comes out as an iamb according to my personal pronunciation, is Reborn.
And thus:
...looks appropriately mischievous, but more importantly, awesome (it's on my list of pets to get, whenever I come up with a suitable name and funds for more pet slots).
That is an interesting take - I didn't consider finding a species that was iambic. :)
Unfortunately, I do not share your fondness for manchus. I already have a zentu, plus most of those tend to look pretty serious to me. Dragarth might be a possibility. I'll have to think on it more. Maybe I could do some research into other iambic names. Or find a color/species name combo that is iambic. Thanks for the idea!
