We have a super cell coming through. It started in Minnesota and it grew bigger and bigger. The weather is advising to stay indoors when the storm hits. We're going to have torrential downpour, severe lightning and high winds. It's saying the winds are going to topple trees, buildings and even toss cars.
I've already taken the chairs and garbage bin off my balcony and overturned my glass table. It's too big to get through the doors. My dad actually hoisted it up over the balcony (that's how it got up there).
I'm actually scared. There's no safe place in my apartment. We have this old as fuck tree outside and it leans over my bedroom. That tree has been falling apart for years and the landlord refuses to cut it down. He told my brother "That's why you have car insurance".
I think my brother also said something about a flood advisory, but I don't see it listed in our alert. Also, our KPA (air pressure) is dropping.
I've never heard it this quiet outside. Not even a cricket is chirping. The only noise that's going on, is the street sweepers and I feel like that's out of place o.o
[edit] Some good news. The storm looks like it's shifting. I feel relieved.
Yikes, that's horrifying.... storms like that always worry me too, we had a wind storm in May that did a lot of damage, I can only imagine how bad it's going to be there. Is there no place safe you can go, no friend you can stay with until this passes? What about the lower levels of your building like the basement? I'm really sorry... Please do stay safe!
Take a breath, I know it's terrifying, night storms and I do not get along either. If it gets bad, head for a lower story in the building if you can. If not, bathroom or closet.
Be safe!

Well.. my brother is with my mom and I do have his spare apartment key (he's below me). But.. I'm also worried about my hamsters. Plus, I can just grab them and huddle.
The storm advisory has not changed since 5pm EST.
I can probably duck in my main closet if I throw some shit out or in my hot water tank room. It gets pretty hot in there, but I'd rather sweat and huddle my hamsters and try to be safe.
Yikes... Wish there was some way to help, I'm sorry. :(
But let's hope it doesn't come to that.

I live in California which is an earthquake zone not a storm zone--for now, we've been getting some crazy winds by our standards that have me believing in climate change but I digress.
I understand your fear as big earthquake predictions would have me freaking out as well but it's important to maintain a level head. Try to relax. You've done all that can be done in preparation. Distract yourself as you're doing now with Subeta. Perhaps read a book, watch television or listen to music. Anything that'll take your mind off the storm.
I've gathered from the entertainment industry (reading and television) that the basement or bathroom are the safest areas to be in a hurricane/high wind storm if you don't have a storm cellar.
Glad things went your way & that you are safe. :)
For future reference if you are caught in your apartment again, the safest room is the bathroom. The walls are reinforced by the water pipes that run through them. Also, the leading cause of injuries and fatalities is flying debris. So crawl in the bathtub and drape a heavy blanket or rug over yourself to protect you from the airborne menace should the worst happen and your apartment roof and walls fail. That is not likely to EVER happen -- esp. in your area -- but better safe than sorry. Besides, there is no price on peace of mind.
Remember that most people who are injured in any kind of storm are the "looky-loos" who get too close to a funnel and then try to outrun danger and get caught either in a vehicle or outside. People who take shelter -- even if it isn't a storm shelter -- are the ones who come through unscathed.
Knowledge is power. Now that you know what to do, you have the power to take care of yourself. You don't ever have to be afraid of storms again. You can be alert and take precautions -- but fear can't rule you unless you let it. Stay safe and stay calm. :)
oh no! we pretty much never get any weather alerts here, but i'm certain it's extremely worrying. i guess it's mostly about knowing what to do, but i'm glad you didn't have to deal with it and you're safe. ♥
We didn't get the storm, thank God! There were two storms rolling in. The one over Michigan never crossed the border (thanks to for her amazing skills because I don't know how to use a weather map other than looking at temperatures lol)
And , thanks for that tip! My region never, ever gets severe storms/tornadoes. I do have two pictures from a tornado warning. It's the dropping clouds. I forget what they're called. I should show them to you someday. but that'll take some digging on FB :P
I prepared my balcony as mentioned. The garbage was so rank, it made me gag. Luckily.. I had nothing to throw up because I just woke up an hour ago (8am). Threw the garbage outside and sprayed the crap out of my living room.
And something totally unrelated... my grandma passed this morning :(
Glad to hear that you're safe and my condolences for your loss.
So sorry to hear about your grammy. 😢
I swear, if it wasn't for bad luck you wouldn't have any luck at all. I hope you and yours find strength and compassion to see you through this dark time. May you soon be able to remember the laughter without the tears. hugs
You are welcome! I am a big believer in knowledge. It has helped me deal with so much throughout my life.
Wall cloud is the term I think you mean -- I have seen them multiple times so no pics needed. I don't live in the worst area for tornadoes, but we see a few every year. I even have a "to go" bag that hangs on the knob behind my bedroom door. It has a set of spare leashes for the ferrets should there ever be a need to evacuate quickly in the event of flood, fire, whatever. That way I can just grab the floofs and toss them in the canvas bag and race out. Then I can harness them once we're safely away.
When I lived in a house, I had a spare cage in the basement set up in the event of a tornado. An airtight tin of food and a bottle of water, plus leashes -- etc were already down there so when severe storms came through I could just grab the furries and go and then toss them in the cage (covered with a heavy rug) where they would be safe while we waited. I recommend doing such things where applicable. Emergency preparedness kits are just that! :)
Yeah, I believe in being prepared. It is my way to alleviate anxiety. When I have a contingency plan, I don't worry. :)
