There are loads of threads related to creating, uploading and selling CWs, but I haven’t found any related to buying them. Seems like it would be pretty straightforward, I know, but here’s my deal...I was inactive for several years, during the time when CWs started. I came back about six months ago and still don’t understand the selling pages on the CW forums. People can sell “slots” for CWs they didn’t draw, slotting happens before or after the item is onsight(?), slotting can be private or not, and I’m wondering if slotting is meant to sound like a double entendre, or if I’m just 12. Overall, it’s very confusing, so I’m wondering if anyone knows of a help topic that was designed for buyers of CWs.

i don't know of any help threads, but slotting just refers to reserving your copy of an item once it gets onsite. basically a user will upload their CW and enter the usernames of each person who has claimed a slot; all users on the list will then get a notification to pay for the item; and after it's approved, each person who slotted will receive a copy of the item.

if the item is already onsite, the CW seller will likely set up a trade for you to offer the owed CSC on in exchange for the item you're buying. many users also put items for sale in their CW shops so that users may buy them directly.

sometimes sellers will have certain items be "private" which just means they are only offering the item to certain people - e.g. friends, frequent buyers, members of their group, etc. sellers will often have a forum group (also called a ping group) which you can join to receive notifications about their upcoming releases, and when you can slot on items. some also have a second "private" ping group for which you would need an invitation (again, often reserved for friends or frequent buyers) that will send you notifications about private items or special offers (e.g. lower price, opportunity to slot before others, etc).

there is no fixed way to buy something unless the CW creator puts it free and clear in their CW shop. Almost nobody does this.

The best buying practice IME for buying any particular item is to contact the creator. Those creators that have threads, you can check the first post and this is sometimes helpful. If it's not, sMail them politely? and see if they respond. They may not. They aren't required by Subeta to sell their items to anybody, or at all. Nor do they have to talk to you.

"Private" is not an official term, and Subeta does not enforce this. It means whatever they say it means.

Also, CWs that are already onsite are bought and sold in the R200 Advertising forum. With being able to sell CWs for CSC in user shops now, sometimes you'll get lucky and find WL items just through the shop search also
