I'm usually bad at introductions, but if I let that stop me, I'll just end up staring longingly at conversations that I'm too afraid to join, so here goes! My name is Jo and I'm 29 years old. I joined Subeta because it seems like it'll satisfy my nostalgia for online pets without making me feel like I'm at least one million years too old for the site.

I have a Jack Russell terrier named Shortie and I love animals in general. Making friends with me is as easy as sending animal pics or memes. I am the super extra dog mom friend and probably always will be. I have accepted this as my chosen path.

I have a Bachelor's degree in psychology and I live in the Pacific Northwest. I moved here from Ohio to pursue some of my dreams and, you know, escape Ohio. I love reading, writing, photography, and getting to know people. Carnie life, pirates, vikings, sharks, and the ocean in general are in my heart and blood. Recently, I've taken up brewing mead with my boyfriend and my current goal is to move my brother and parents out here with me.

Well, that about does it for me for now. I'm happy to be here and if you need a weirdo in your group of friends, I'm available at the low cost of $0 or fifteen months of financing at $0 per month (seriously don't let me be a hermit).

Hi Jo! Welcome to Subeta :)! Haha yes I feel the same, I wanted to go back to Neopets but 1) I have no idea what's happening and 2) I felt a bit too old! I used this site when I was 17/18 (I'm 23 now) and was still a bit too young for it to be honest, I looked at some of my past messages and some of the titles were 'rawr' and 'meow' Cringe >.<

AAAA I love Jack Russells! I had a Jack Russell when I grew up and we got another a few years ago. Although this one is a Miniature Jack Russell Chihuahua! Have you got any pics of Shortie? I would love to see her/him :)

I really wanted to do a degree in Psychology! But Research Methods put me off a bit, so I did Ancient History instead!

I have waaay too many pictures of Shortie lol. We call him Sir Short Shorts, Shortcakes, Shortbreads, Short Pants, the Duke of Shortwood, etc. He is my furry little baby, haha. I'm still working out the rules on images in the forums and I don't want to get a warning already so I made thumbnail links!

Research Methods was a bit of a pain, like Psychological Statistics and Measurements sort of, but not too difficult if your professor is good. I really wanted to go for writing, but the way my financing worked out basically meant I could only go for a business or science. Plus, my family has histories of mental illness and I wanted to better understand people as a whole. I'm not really disappointed that I couldn't go for a more creative degree at that point because psychology helps me understand characters and really get into them when writing. Plus, I can always go for creative writing on my own dime, later.

Ancient History is SO FASCINATING to me! My boyfriend and I both love learning about ancient cultures and what they were like. I took botany courses as my electives and had to get recommendations from my professors to do independent learning (AKA I was the only person who wanted to take the class). One of my courses was called Ethnobotany and it was basically centered around how different cultures use and value plants. One of my tasks was a sort of digital archeological puzzle where I had to look at temple drawings and determine where I was, what plant was being depicted, and then answer questions in essay format.

They were all cartoon-ish pictures but I figured out it was dragonfruit in South America and it was definitely one of the most fun and interesting school projects I had. Piecing together things from the past and learning how cultures evolved or disappeared has always been a good chunk of my reading material!

What are some of your favorite events/civilizations in ancient history? Like, which ones do you find most interesting or mysterious?
