I always understood that a pet's hunger should fall by one point every hour, on the hour. But it seems I was wrong (or at least out of date), so I wondered if anyone could inform me how getting hungry is actually supposed to work? Is it purely chance whether a pet's hunger falls each hour or not, or is there some sort of pattern to it that I've failed to perceive?

While searching for enlightenment, I stumbled across an old news post which states

Quote
Gourmands rejoice! Your pets will now get hungrier a bit faster as they eat more unique foods. This should help feeding them all of those exotic treats go more quickly once they&;ve developed their palates!
(with a staff comment further down confirming that this change was intended to be permanent.)

Is this still a thing, and if so, how exactly does it work? And how many foods does a pet have to have eaten before it kicks in?

yeahhhhh hunger is kind of... glitchy. it's definitely not as straightforward as dropping by one point per hour, that's just a general guideline based on average values. and the faster hunger decrease has been super inconsistent and doesn't seem to work properly for most people.

Heh, I'd love if my pets averaged hourly hunger drops; I've only been tracking it closely for a few days, but so far it's confirmed what I'd been kinda-noticing for weeks now: they only lose 10-11 points a day (and they all drop at the exact same times, whether they've only eaten a couple of different foods, or hundreds).

Thanks for the confirmation that at least it's not just me...

if there's a difference in hunger-change based on how many foods eaten, it's a teeny tiny one. I think your observation is correct.

Pet Hunger has been quirky and or broken and or weird for the eleven years I have been playing here. Feeding your pet thousands of foods is going to take a long time no matter how it works/not works. Me, I just roll with it and keep an Infinity Berry on hand.

I could've sworn it used to work fine, changing on the hour - but quite likely, I just wasn't paying close enough attention until recently, to notice any different. -_-; As for the supposed gourmand bonus, I figured maybe none of my pets had eaten enough foods to qualify yet. In the space of four days noting every change, the pet who's only eaten four different foods, has had the exact same drops at the exact same times, as the one who's eaten over two thousand.

I can remember hunger used to drop 2 points on the hour every hour. It was that way for a long time until around the time we got the gourmand achievement. I can remember every hour not even checking my pet's hunger and tossing it two foods.

Like everyone says, now it's all borked. I've gone over 12 hours and only had the hunger drop 2 points and this is on my gourmand pet. It's been bad enough that a lot of the times I just don't even care to do the feed your pet certain foods achievements no matter how cheap and easy they may be.

I haven’t noticed any particular pattern yet. Sometimes, it will drop a point or two over the course of one or two hours and other times, it won’t. Sometimes, overnight will have him at 1 or 2 and other times at 6. I just keep checking the foods eaten page after every meal, in the hopes that it triggers something.

I saw someone mentioned the Infinity Berry and looked up to see what it did; it makes your pet's bloated. Is there an item that makes them hungrier faster? [I'm new here, so bear with me.] If not, is it worth suggesting one or should the Gourmand achievement remain difficult to accomplish? Also, I guess I'd be worried about suggesting one since some may be uncomfortable with an item that makes a pet hungrier, since it might remind them of eating disorder related behavior. If the item says it just boosts metabolism, maybe that would be alright. Thoughts, anyone?

yeah that was me, and it was a general comment about how hunger here on Subeta has not been consistent. Sometimes hunger goes crazy and you can't keep your pet fed and if you want to fight you have to have the Infinity Berry on hand or always feed your pet a lot of cheapy food one at a time which is a pain.

If you want to make your pet hungrier faster to make the gourmand Achievement tiers in a hurry there is only one way. Have another pet who is at least tier 6 fight in the Battle Coliseum with Malerias Clawed Glove. This weapon is cursed and when you use it in your battles it will starve/injure your other pets randomly including (presumably) the one you want to make hungry.

Still feeding your pet that many foods will cost you RL time to do and to get that many foods will cost you some sP so this is not one of the easier Achievements to get. Me I spread the effort out over a few years to make it less boring and to spread the total price out. You may be more goal oriented :)
