... this happening?! Just, wtf?

This is the second night in a row now. Last night it flew off before I could get a picture of it. This time it just kept chillin' there.

It looks like it's roosting, trying to settle in for the night. They seem to like the corners of covered areas, where they feel relatively safe and sheltered. It may also be a breed that will eat the insects attracted to the light, which would make an area like that even more appealing... It'd be sorta like sleeping by the fridge. LOL

Sleeping by the fridge? This bird's my spirit animal!

Really, though, what makes it so weird to me is that is literally all the room it has. There's no room to build a nest or anything and it's RIGHT by the front door. From where I was standing, I could literally reach out and poke its feathery little butt. I don't know why it would think that spot is safe? Especially since I accidentally spooked it off the other night.

If it's eating the insects, it's not doing a very good job, tho.

I mean, they do have tiny tummies. One nice big moth would probably keep your birdie friend full for a while. :D

-looks at the image- I think there is probably room for a nest there actually, if it wanted. I've seen them build in some pretty impossible looking places. That said, as far as I know, many - if not all - birds only worry about building nests when they need a place to hold their little eggies and chicks. (It's a lot of work building a nest, so they'll basically only do it when they have to.) Many birds will use empty, intact nests as a place to sleep during the rest of the year, but they will also roost in trees and in structures if they don't find a nest to snuggle up in. (Some specific species also shelter on the ground in tall grass.)

Also, I think it may have decided you aren't that dangerous. Either it has good instincts (I've had a handful of amazing experiences with wild animals being like "you not scary sort, you not hurt me") or it's just an audacious little thing (if it's been around people in a fairly populated area, it will be).

Well if it could eat the scary spiders I'm too afraid to touch instead of the moths, that'd be nice lol

Really? I mean, its poor little face was mashed into the side. I would hate for any bird to make a nest there. I don't think it is coming back tonight, though. I guess it heard me talking about it :P I ain't gonna lie, I was seriously debating on catching it hahaha.

I was debating also on setting up a little birdhouse or something outside but I remembered that there's such a thing as "squirrels" and squirrels are assholes. I don't want nuts thrown at me every time I take the dog out lol. Squirrels are great. Would love to have one as a pet. But maybe start out with a baby lol

I usually don't have very good luck with wild animals. I've had butterflies fly around me and land on me and feral cats tend to not be as afraid of me as other people, but that's about the extent of it. I almost got attacked by a deer once. That was fun. (Note: Deer don't like being taunted with tacos and chalupas from Taco Bell.) Maybe it's my fiance... Birds really, really, really like him for some reason.

If that were me and my front porch, I would attach a small platform while birdie-friend was away for the day so that they could build a nest there and be more comfortable. ^_^

I was thinking about doing that, actually, if he came back... Unfortunately, little bird never showed back up last night so I guess he found somewhere more comfortable.
