If you got him from the pound I'm pretty sure you can transfer no problem. It's when someone transfers a pet to you that you have the 30 day cool down :)

There goes my fantasy of meeting someone in an alley late at night to swap the pet. They’ll ask me if I have the goods, and I’ll ask them for the password. Looking around to make sure we’re not being watched, they lean in a whisper “My greatest fear is an unpatched Linux toilet.” I nod, for I too am disturbed by skeezy IoT devices, and from under my trenchcoat pull out an angelic sheeta. We make the trade and dissappear into the night.
