EARTH WEEK 2018

Earth Day was founded in 1970 as a day of education about environmental issues. The holiday is now a global celebration that’s extended into Earth Week, a full seven days of events focused on green living. Earth Day aims to inspire awareness and appreciation for Earth's environment. The April 22 Earth Day is usually celebrated with outdoor performances, where individuals or groups perform acts of service to Earth. Typical ways of observing Earth Day include planting trees, picking up roadside trash, conducting various programs for recycling and conservation, and using recyclable containers for snacks and lunches, starting a home compost or battling household energy vampires. Colors used for Earth Day include natural colors such as green, brown, or blue.

Earth Week is a week to reflect on the impact humans have on the earth, and to demonstrate and reaffirm our support for environmental protection.

We recycle everything. We put out trash about once a month but recycle every week. We wish that we could recycle twice a week but they only pick up once I love this ha :D I made mother earth ^^ Outfit Not Found

I'm vegan, and doing my best to live zero-waste, but it's so difficult when companies use excessive plastic packaging. i recycle everything that comes in to the house, either via compost, separation or reuse.

I don't normally like to get too preachy about this because nobody really likes that, but I guess today's the day for it lol. The thing I do that helps put less strain on the environment is to eat a vegan diet (I mostly do it out of concern for the animals but the environmental argument is strong as well).

Other things I do to help are recycling and cutting back on waste in general (I just try not to consume a lot and I buy things in bulk when possible, which need less packaging). I always try to reuse or repurpose things rather than throw them away and I obtain a lot of stuff second-hand. And I use things until they break...at which point I repair them and keep using them, if at all possible - everything from sewing up a hole in my shirt to tearing apart and figuring out how to fix the TV when the picture goes bad. These are things people used to do because they had to be frugal, but these days, most people in Western society live a disposable lifestyle and just toss things without a second thought when the shiny newness wears off. I could rant all day about consumerism but I'll spare you that, haha. Anyway...reduce, reuse, recycle!

Outfit Not Found My Earth Week HA is doing the following: Being vegan and eating locally-grown veggies! Keeping the yard wild animal-friendly! Getting plenty of use out of those patched-up trousers! Planting a tree! Being happy! :)

1. I'm vegetarian and i like to do a bit of gardening when i have time. there are a lot of solutions people could do to help the earth. beyond recycling i think people could do more volunteering for clean ups and being more active about where their food comes from. People could also pay more attention to the types of products they use since soaps, makeup, beauty care products and so on can be toxic for both the body and the environment.

For doing environmentally conscious things, I make sure to recycle what I can at work and at home. I reuse, repurpose, and upcycle what I can as well. When I get my own home in the near future, I plan on doing composting to further my efforts. At work, we're going to take a trip to plant some trees with our kids next month. We hoped to do it this coming week, but didn't get the OK from the city soon enough.

Well, we try to recycle as much as we can at my house. Also we're trying to use less plastic bags (when we don't forget our reusable ones at home, lol)

well, here in china, a lot of people don’t preserve the environment as we see litter everywhere especially in the countryside where I live >< I’d definitely not throw garbage wherever I go, I would always put them in a nearby garbage can :) We live in the mountains so I’d say there’re no lack of trees haha but I remember when I was young attending school here in China we learned and physically plant trees ourselves near our school as well as learning to preserve them since there’re not many trees back then and so it was a huge problem. When our family fly to Canada there were trees everywhere and no litter so the Canadians definitely did a better job in preserving the environment! This is what I look like when I save the earth, which is just basically planting more plants or trees :p Outfit Not Found

My mother tried to instill a love for the earth in my brother and I from a very young age. Back in the 60's we were already recycling soda cans, and we smashed them all too! She would sew me dresses made from ladies clothes she bought at a thrift store. She always taught us to not throw garbage in nature and to take care of the land by planting flowers and things we could eat. She herself was a vegetarian back in a time when few had heard of such a "silly" notion. Thanks to her I read "Diet for a Small Planet" when I was in my 20's. (that was a long time ago! lol)

So for myself many of the things I unconsciously do to be earth friendly were instilled in me since childhood! While I don't consider myself a vegetarian I do consider myself a Flexitarian. That is a lifestyle that is plant based and I'm finding more and more recipes that I actually love made using lentils instead of using meats.

If we don't all start working soon to save the planet, I fear for future generations!!

My family does the usual - lots of recycling, buying from the fruit & veggie shop rather than the supermarket (less packaging, less 'perfect' food, using reusable bags and reusing the plastic bags we do get, etc. I would love to go solar-powered but sadly can't right now. x) One day! Here's hoping Australia puts a stop to coal mining and fracking and stops damaging the beautiful environment around us. :c

Solutions to save the earth... That's tricky! I mean, I already encourage recycling, and watching out for electricity use... And I pay attention to gas mileage and stuff like that... And trying to keep existing, older plants growing, instead of pulling them out to replace them with baby plants... (people don't think of that as a contributor to carbon in the atmosphere... But plants pull carbon out of the atmosphere as they grow, but return it when they die... So replacing a large but still healthy tree with a baby tree also contributes....)

But umm... Yeah, don't have many new creative ideas...

Solutions for the Earth, I feel pretty hopeless about this but I do what I can manage, with recycling as much as I can, not using risky or polluting chemicals on my outdoor plants, and driving a car that has good mileage. It's not really much. :(
