Hey yall... I love to travel and I didn't see any thread about it, so I want to hear what you love and hate about travelling, your plans, your dreams, and your experiences!
I have loved going on road trips all my life and I just recently went on my first international trip, to Argentina. It was spectacular and I'm so excited to return this summer.
Why do you guys travel? Where do you like to go? What do you do there? Do you need any recommendations for future destinations or activities? Do you need to vent/complain about your trips? What's the best/worst experience you've had while travelling? Do you like to document your ventures? What are your favorite travel blogs/forums? Can you offer any advice to others?

I really quite enjoy travelling, but I don't do quite as much of it these days just because it can be so expensive haha! I used to do roadtrips and things a lot when I was a kid with my parents up to my grandma's house (she lives about an 8~ hour drive away). I would love to go to Japan one day though, that is like my dream place to visit -- I've wanted to go since I was a teenager.
I've been to Mexico twice, the first time was amazing, and the second was a gongshow right from the get-go. Services they said they had they didn't, and shit just went from bad to worse when a hurricane rolled in. After we were moved to a different hotel after the storm was over, it was much better haha!
My last big trip was to Italy, which was really, really interesting! There were so many beautiful sights and things to eat (seriously some of the best food I've ever had). We spent time in Venice, Florence and then in Sorrento I had a bad fall and broke my lower leg/ankle in two places which unfortunately cut our trip short :(
I really enjoy traveling as long as it is with the right people! Due to my family situation I travel to Virginia from Massachusetts almost once a month so I have that down to a system because it is just myself traveling which I don't mind. I usually take a plane but much prefer spending the day on the high speed train so I can walk around and use a desk and take naps. Family holidays are always fun too but since my mom and step-dad don't travel much getting them through the airport is always time and a half since they get confused so easily no matter how many times they ask me something and I answer.
it really can be!! I really admire those people who travel/trek on super low budgets but I like my comfortable lifestyle 😝 I too have always wanted to go to Japan (anime was a big factor when i was a teenager hahaha) and I always daydream about how I would fit it into my life to teach English or something over there for a few years. They are always looking for teachers and it requires little to sign up with a company that assists you and pays a nice salary--many students end up doing it for summers and stuff.
Did you mainly stay on the beach in Mexico?? Did you get to see any cool temples and stuff?? And I would love to go to Italy although it's been a while since I considered Europe--I'm a big fan of Assassin's Creed so... getting to run around virtual Renaissance Italy was fabulous, i just love the architecture(:
When I read that "the right people" statement I just thought about my flight back from Argentina, some fellow study abroad brats were sitting a bit behind me and they were whining about the semester they had spent there. I'm so glad they fell asleep once the plane was in the air, but Jesus, if they had kept going... I have trouble holding my tongue 😂 I've never been on a train before, that sounds so lovely!! My mom definitely succumbs to airport stress when she comes with me hahaha but she is the best companion for roadtrips(: I'm from Oklahoma and I have family/go to school in Florida so we make the 19-hr car trip every year at least! She's afraid of flying.

UGH other people on long flights can be the worst. I can't get on a flight without my soundproof headphones anymore. The train is very nice, about as long as driving usually but less cramped and much more scenic. I do the 10ish hour drive from my moms to my dads a few times a year at least and most of the time with my sister which is real nice. A lot of time to talk and listen to podcasts!
I love traveling. Weird times with TSA though.
Once I had a long thin cotton sash around my waist. It had no purpose, I just put it on cuz I wanted a string around my waist. TSA made me take it off, asked what it was (which I had difficulty explaining in 2 seconds), took it from me, scanned it, and swabbed my hand. Didn't find drugs or anything and let me go. It's a STRING!
Another time I had an open tube of polenta in my pocket. It looked like a sausage casing that was cut open. Just empty carbs to eat on the plane, I thought it was genius, and had started eating at the airport before checking in. TSA didn't think so. Guy had to take it, scan it, and ask his boss if it was ok for me to take with me, even though it wasn't a liquid, so it should be fine. Boss okayed. I really couldn't eat it afterwards without thinking about all the germs they must have spread from all the other weird stuff they touch. Can't say I didn't see it coming though.
I also love traveling. 2 and 3 years back i had a client needing me to write about stuff to do in all sorts of places - it didn't have to be personal experiences, lol- so i learned many things about many places. I learned USA has many attractions for tourists, even in locations where one would think it's boring to travel to.
Thanks to that client now i want to travel to Crete. The views i saw in pics from that island.... I really hope this year we manage to move to France and honestly, being in France will be enough for me. Romania has many nice things to offer to visitors, but the infrastructure is .... meh in this regard. [i think things are getting better though]
I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.
Hahaha! Anime was a big factor in me wanting to go when I was younger too. Anime definitely isn't the main reason now (I've shifted away from that sort of thing these days), but I would still love to go just because it's so different. One of my best friends is going next month with her boyfriend, I told her I was going to stow away in her suitcase haha!
We did yeah! Both times. I can't remember where we were the first time, but the second we were on the Mayan Riviera, which was really pretty, but got blasted by the hurricane pretty bad. We didn't really venture off of the resort really, which was okay with me at the time as I was young, but now if I went back I'd want to do more outside stuff. And yeah, the architecture in Italy was amazing. There were a ton of cool buildings (I took SO many photos haha!) and we climbed to the top of the Tower of Piza which was super fun.
Venice must have been one of my most favorite holidays. I also went to Rome and Verona in Italy. I love the food and the way the streets look there. I love Italy haha
My next trip will be of a whole different kind though. I am going to Zambia and Uganda (east and middle of Africa) to do wildlife tracking. I will be going for 2.5 months (must be the longest I've ever gone on a trip) and also the first time I will be going (partly) alone, so I am quite nervous. I've seen the United States, Sweden, Spain, Great-Britain (but only London), and quite a few other European countries. Just two years ago I spend 3 weeks in Thailand, it was a shame the tourism there killed it a bit but the nature and beaches are beautiful.
I love travelling! I’m from the U.K. and last year I made 4 trips to the US, plus visited Norway, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland and Latvia. Right now I’m on the last day of my first US trip if this year having been here 18 days (Vegas, Florida, Philadelphia, New York) and I don’t want to go home as I’m having such a great trip! Being from the U.K. means I can go away to European countries for quite cheap just for the weekend. We are off to Denmark for the weekend in May followed by a weekend in New York the weekend after lol Then back to Norway in August then back to New York in October with whatever little trips we can fit in in between!

I'm from the U.S. These are most of the notable cities I've traveled to. I'd like to see more of the world but it's expensive and hard to find time off work. My bf wants to visit Korea with me in a few years when we turn 30.
Seoul, South Korea Toronto, Canada Montreal, Canada Mumbai, India New Delhi, India Mykonos, Greece Amsterdam, Netherlands Rome, Italy Paris, France London, England Dublin, Ireland

I'm from Canada, and looove to travel, despite my chronic anxiety. So far, I've been to the USA (Washington state, Hawaii), England (London, some smaller towns), and Japan (Gifu, Kyoto, Nagoya, Takayama). I'm visiting Japan again in 3 weeks and I feel like I'm going to melt from fear. The thought of being jammed in a plane for 11 hours terrifies me. No way out, trapped in a confined space with strangers.. it makes me feel queasy thinking about it. I'm already compiling a huge playlist, gathering all the DS games I wanna take, buying some books off my Kindle wishlist, making a list of comfort snacks, anything to distract from my claustrophobia, lmao. The last time I visited was 13 years ago (I was only 15) and I remember the plane ride being SO horrifically boring. But back then I only had my battered old walkman and a gameboy advance SP haha. So maybe it'll be easier this time? ; ; If you guys have any little tips/tricks to help ease the pain of an 11 hour flight, please let me know! I've been dreaming of visiting Tokyo for the first time and see Gifu again, my fear of this flight is really distracting from any excitement I should be feeling.
