I've been forcing myself to go on a lot of first dates for the past few months, and I also have huuuge problems with social anxiety and just fear of meeting someone I don't know. However, I have mostly had very good experiences from it. Just a couple of the guys I met didn't work out, and of them only one was in a negative manner. Most people are nervous about meeting someone from online, so just go do it! It will either work or it won't. I definitely suggest meeting them in a casual place at first, I typically go for a cute coffee shop or a pub (because let's be honest, alcohol helps at least a little). It just depends on the person though, really, because I've also had first dates where I meet the guy at a very nice restaurant. Keep in mind though that the nicer a place is, the more nervous it may make you. I usually also let the guy know beforehand that in person I'm generally pretty awkward; most people find it endearing, so don't worry about it.

Well, i suppose you know the basic of meeting in a public place, or even have a friend follow you around.... [because you never know what creep you can meet]..

My advice is not to put your hopes too high - so don't think "omg, this will be the best date eva!", but more like "let's hope this doesn't totally sucks". I met with a friend [must insist he's just a friend] i met online several years back [he came to see my country] and because i'm an introvert too, at first i had no idea what to say and i felt awkward.. plus he was talking in such a low voice i could barely hear him XDD
But in the end things went fine and we had a great time together..

I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.

lurks in thread, hoping for similar advice

Honestly? I have yet to go on an actual date. I've hung out with guys one-on-one before, but they were just friends and both parties knew it. I'm definitely an adult now too, and I feel so awkward about it. I haven't ever had a first kiss, unless you count that one time in elementary school I chased a boy on the playground and kissed him, lmao. I've always been overweight and socially anxious. And now there's the whole can of worms that I think I'm probably bi, not that I could date a girl - I still live with my parents and they would have a shit fit to end all shit fits.

Anyways, I hope things go well for you!

I know it may sound strange but it could be the attention you place towards the internet that interfers with your ability to perceive him as someone you may have met during school.

Maybe try not to gobble him all up in spoken word too. Go out together. Make sure he isnt the type to yell at strangers or trip you in public. :I Aha because if you arent trying to find a reason to leave him and you find him physically attractive, things should be pretty simple imo.

TINDER oh my. What a ride xD Ive been on a bunch of dates from them. Most of them just want to hook up tbh. But Ive actually met a few good people who are genuily interested in dating and doing things the right way!

Just go with the flow, its NORMAL to be nervous! I usually admit it to get it out the way (im an open book and pretty sociable) so it just has to come out xD But dont overthink it! What is supposed to happen will happen c:

good luck boo!

i met an ex on tinder, it can be fun.

just act like you're going to meet a new friend and if they're cute, that's a bonus. if you're really shy it might help to think of some conversation topics beforehand.

The person I've been with for 2 years now I met on Tinder! We were strangers and it was def awkward and kinda scary meeting for the first time worrying about how you look and etc. BUT the pay off is great! you have to just push yourself into uncomfortable situations to find the one! It may not be the first one you meet but everytime youre getting closer and closer!

if you're shy, tinder can be a really scary place. i've definitely had a few first dates off of it, even dated a couple boys too. but first dates are scary as hell. i say don't look at this as dating rather getting to know them. after all, you don't really know him at all! i always say i'm talking to xx person or we have a date but never "dating" because i personally coin that with boyfriend and girlfriend.

it just depends on if you find the right match. i just recently met a dude who was fairly shy and awkward, imo, but i kept forcing the conversation (poor him) and we finally found some true common ground! we talk almost every hour of every day now and if i wasn't so busy we would've met up by now for sure. it's a relief when you meet a guy who isn't just out there to chase tail, but daunting because damn it could be the real deal, ya'know?

and if you ever feel unsure about meeting up with them, i recommend trusting your gut and waiting a little longer. you gotta progress at a pace that works for you, and most people find it endearing when you're just straight up with them. just go with the flow and as others have said: if it's meant to be, then it will be.

I met my husband on Tinder. Fair warning, I went on a lot of super awkward (lied to leave early) dates first.

Always meet in a public place. Never give too much personal information until you actually get to know someone.

People are right - a lot of guys use Tinder for hookups and such, but ... I got lucky. I met my husband on Tinder, we dated for about 2 years, got married just last July. I regret nothing!

I met my current S/O on Tinder! When I met people from Tinder we usually ended up meeting at a coffee shop or a bubble tea place. It gives the date a much casual feel rather than going all out for the first meeting. And for me I also liked getting coffee because if the date was awkward I could wrap it up fast after we finished our drinks or if I was having a nice time we could sit and talk more. I found that the 'dates' I had at a restaurant I was just so nervous and I couldn't eat because it felt too much too fast.. if that makes sense?

The first meeting is always a little awkward but I like to remind myself that they are probably equally nervous! Try pretending that they are a good friend. Don't rush yourself if you have doubt, but it's also good to step outside of your comfort zone sometimes too ^^ I hope everything goes well for you!

I met my fiancee on okcupid (not tinder but kinda?) and we have been dating for about five years ago and have been living together for about two years. Online dating is hard, it's really hard trying to find someone that will match you without them being a total jerk face. It takes time finding half decent people to date. Good luck~

I met my current boyfriend on Tinder (2 years together on Monday) and honestly if you’re not wanting a hook up just take your time. Meet up and go on nice little dates. Online dating has a huge fault in that people can pretend to be whoever they want and I’m not talking about fake profiles, I mean their personalities can be faked to make themselves seem better than they actually are. As I said, just take your time and get to know each other. And if it doesn’t feel right don’t force it, this is something important. In my expirenfe it always feels a bit awkward the first time you meet because who isn’t nervous on a first date? But it does get more relaxed and easier.

I actually met my boyfriend of over a year on tinder. I was looking for someone to see Infinity War with (I live in a small town and friends were gone for college) so I made an account on there and the rest is history. We clicked really well and now I have my player 2 haha
