I received a new position at work and it’s an overnight position. I’m excited - the hours actually work really well for me! Anyone else have or have had an overnight job? Do/did you enjoy it? Any crazy stories? Have any tips? :D Let’s chit-chat while the rest of the world sleeps!

I am not working in an overnight job but I did a few night-shifts in my job (health care) already and it was actually quite fun. I don't have any real cool stories to tell except for that one moment when my colleague and I took a break, ate our Asian food and watched some semi-scary show on tv. Well, in that moment the radio-controlled clock above the tv suddenly decided to check the time and behaved like in a bad horror movie. My colleague and I sat there for a few seconds, stared at the clock and then began to laugh.

At my current workplace I honestly don't want working night-shifts, from what I've heard it's really stressful there and you barey have the time for a break so no thank you. XD

That’s pretty spooky, but I probably would have laughed too. It’s too perfect lol. I’ve worked overnights occasionally at my job too but now I’m doing to full time. Nothing spooky has happened but it can definitely be stressful depending on what guests are in the hotel that night LOL

I've been nightshift for 3 years now (first janitorial now stocking) and I love it most of the time, unless I have extended periods off which messes with my sleep schedule. I like how much quieter the store is at night (though we still do good business being open 24hr), as far as crazy stories go....our entire shift is mostly insane sooo yea lol

I looove how much quieter it is here overnight, so it really fits me more. And I bet regularly working overnights your sleep schedule is much more sensitive to change than working other shifts. I’ve only really done it every so often (I was the backup overnight person so sometimes I got called in last minute) and caffeine is the only thing that keeps me awake during the weird, inconsistent hours.

I haven't but I know someone who does as a baker. It was hard for a while because for a little while she was in school at the same time. It must be nice being off when everything else is open, like the banks and post office. Not true for the regular 9 to 5. How do you decide which part of the day you want to sleep through - right after work or wake up just before?

I've never done overnight shifts but I've always been a person who stays up too late in general. I hate to admit it but I feel so much better health-wise now that I'm going to bed at like 10pm most nights instead of like 5am like I used to. I've finally realized I'm not exactly missing much if I go to bed early. :/

I still feel like I'm missing something though. Something magical. IN THE NIGHT. FAR AWAY.

My boyfriend used to work overnights tho and I'm honestly glad he doesn't anymore because it definitely took a toll on his physical and mental health.

I think in school that’d be terribly difficult! Unless you, like, worked at the campus library and could study or do homework while you worked. It is really nice not being on the same schedule as everyone else, you avoid traffic and crowds and it’s great! I’ve always found sleeping in the morning after the overnight shift leaves me much more energized than going to bed super early in the afternoon. That and you don’t have to set your alarm, you wake up when you want to!

I’ve always been a night owl too. I’ve worked every shift for work and I much prefer the evening and overnight shifts. Getting up early and having long days is nice and all, but I always seemed to hit traffic and whatnot during those times. Right now I’m working two jobs and it’s hard and I can feel my mental and physical health declining, but because of the stress, not because of the overnight job LOL

That is absolutely true about the crowds- I miss grocery shopping at midnight.

I work overnight at a bread factory, that's always fun.

A rock and roll Temmie, baby...
