Hi Everyone,

I started a petition to Target asking them to make their receipts optional. This is an easy change that could save hundreds of thousands of trees a year, and reduce litter and waste! I did this because I live in a zero waste home, and receipts can't be recycled due to the BPA chemicals in them as well as the thermal paper. Every time someone signs the petition it sends an e-mail to Target letting them know what we want. Please consider signing it, and if you do comment below as to why you did!

Signed! I think Meijer also needs to do this, or at least make their damn coupons optional. They always print off so many coupons, none of which I ever need, and then when people do use them, they throw them out anyways. It's disgusting.

Tbph, with things like Square Cash being out there, why do we still need paper receipts?

It's nice that some places are doing e-mail receipts now. I've only been to a couple places that did that, though. Most places I shop also ask if you want your receipt and I usually say no but it usually still prints a shop copy + customer copy anyway so it still goes in the waste. :(

paper receipt are a thing of the bureaucracy. >.> The thing is that i need the stupid receipt if i have an issue with the product i bought from the store -at least here in Romania [we don't have Target here]. As if people WANT or FEEL LIKE going to the store they never went to, saying they have issues with an item! We have better things to do with our time, not go to complain. SHEESH!

i'd rather receive the receipt by email/ message if it meant they don't print it. And if i pay with the card, they have to print 2 more receipts [for the card reading machine] and they have to keep 1 copy and i get the other copy.

They should somehow create a system where the receipt is optional and only print 1 copy if they really need it -though they shouldn't given they mostly work with computers anyways.

This is such a good idea, and I'm happy to see your initiative! I want to get up to zero waste status some day myself. Doesn't help receipt paper often has a plastic coating that makes it unable to be recycled properly.

That is the whole reason I started the petition! I became Zero waste and then later learned that receipts can't even be recycled! I got a response from target saying that they are actually getting a lot of requests for this and it is something they are looking into!
