I sent gifts to some friends whose activity levels I'm uncertain about, and I'm worried that the gifts might disappear if they don't check their Luminaire trees before the end of the month.
What happens to "unclaimed" gifts? Do they disappear?
in the past, you didn't have any choice about whether or not you opened all your presents. At the preset time (whatever time that was, there's been quite a bit of variation on when opening time is) all the gifts got dumped into your Inventory and you got a ton of Events.
It's also quite traditional for all the wishlist searching, gift buying, and tree stuffing to seriously crash the site and totally mess the site up. Gift disappearance, gift splinching, and gift duplication were par for the course. We only got a genteel delay this time.
So this year us veterans have no idea what to expect.
Since a mechanism for dumping stuff from Tree to Inventory exists, my guess would be that the recipients will have their gifts force-opened for them on 31 Dec.
I'm pretty sure they never disappear. Though it may take a ticket to get the gifts if they are more than a year old.

As far as I know, they don't disappear. You can open your tree at any point during the year (at least until next December, when they get locked), so they'll be there whenever the log on. If they're gone for over a year, like says, they might have to file a ticket.

If I recall correctly, having given gifts to to inactive users, the gifts that are not opened stay under their trees for the next year. I have seen old gifts in my 'gifts given' from prior years before, but I can't say I paid attention this year so it's possible things have changed

Thanks to all of you for your answers! I thought the backlog would either be saved for next year or that the tree can be opened anytime between December 25 - November 30, but I was just scared that the gifts might be lost.
