do you have any holiday traditions? are you trying to start any this year?
when i was young my family used to sit in the dark with only the tree lit and listen to my dads christmas jazz cds, it makes me really nostalgic for when i was young (and when we all still lived together). my family isnt the kind to do the same thing every year, but we did do that almost every year for quite some time. its very bittersweet, in some aspects.
im trying to start a new tradition with my bf and friends of making our presents together. last year we made bath bombs and this year we tried and failed (too much drama and not enough time) but just hanging out and making stuff as a group is really fun imo
Listening to jazz in the dark sounds like it was really nice :) I hope you guys have a good holiday this year too ^_^
My family doesn't have any special traditions.. In japan for christmas eve you get KFC chicken (a random capitalist ploy) so we always say "let's get KFC" and then forget to order it early and then it's sold out so our tradition is we don't eat KFC chicken on christmas eve lol And on new years my parents live by a major shrine so we go up to do the "clap clap", but while a lot of families buy these like anti-evil arrows that's too shinto and right wing for us so we have a traditional conversation of "should we get one since we're here" "no why would we do that.." hahaha

When I was young we had lots of traditions with all the member of my family. We played a lots of cards games and tombola, the fun was incredible. Along the years everything changed and now we just remember who is not here anymore, this is life...nothing you can do to stop the sorrow of these days , you can just be grateful for what you had. I don't want to start new traditions, it doesn't matter
I am from a South African family and we open most of our presents on Christmas Eve in the evening after a huge meal with all the family, and then spend Christmas Day relaxing! We still get stockings on Christmas Day, by its so chilled out.
We always open one present on Christmas Eve... just to keep the kids from rioting!
My family likes to watch A Christmas Story over and over again for as long as they air it. :D
My family used to watch disaster/alien/horror movies on Christmas, since that was the only genre we could all agree on., haha/
The kids get to open a present on Christmas eve, then the day of, we get up early to unwrap our present before we go over to our grandparent's house for a big family dinner and then open some more presents with our extended family.
We also used to play the "Christmas pickle" game where you hide a pickle ornament on the tree and whoever finds it gets an extra present.
My family used to be very into crafts / baking - we'd do homemade ornaments, gingerbread houses, bird feeders, etc., etc.. Most of that has stopped now that we're all grown up, but we still do our Christmas Eve ritual - we make a fire (I'm the proud Fire Keeper at our house), and eat peanut butter cookies and hot chocolate together. We go around and each read our favourite Christmas story to the group (there's always a bit of a scuffle over who gets to read The Night Before Christmas), and then my Mom ends the night by reading a new holiday book that she's bought.

We have cinnamon rolls and custard every Christmas morning.
We also hang a fake golden spiderweb on our tree.
Our only tradition is to eat lunch or at least visit my partner's parents on Christmas Day, and then my part of the family, the next.
We should get into something more exciting.
I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.
Instead of watching It's a Wonderful Life, I put on Terminator 2. Nothing about me makes sense...
Going out for a nightly walk to check out all the houses decorated. It was a lot of fun to go down a different street each night and see all the different ways people could decorate. And the lights always put me in a festive mood.
