What i mean is, say you go to someone's tree and you go to put an item under it (an item that isn't one of he currencies), would it be possible to get a "this user already has this" i say this because yearly i'll get doubles of items (like many of you others do) and you just feel bad for regifting or selling. Idk if it makes any sense but would that ever be a possibility?

I'd really love this feature. It could be abused by people, but honestly they're just ruining the surprise, they wouldn't (hopefully?!) end up in the duping-abusing tier of Bad.

I wouldn't mind this, as long as you can still send the item. There are several items that people collect multiples of because they like them, need multiples, etc. Not to mention stat boosters and things like that. Although, it does open itself up to ruining surprises. Since we can't access our tree's gift page or gift ourselves, that helps curb that imo.

As of right now, if it's a worry, I just coordinate with mutual friends as best I can.

would absolutely love to see this implemented, as the same thing happens to me just about every year. i wind up with at least two sets of duplicates if i'm lucky, but sometimes more. it honestly sucks when it's higher value items, too, because you know they spent a few million sP on something you already have. it just feels wrong to resell, re-gift, or send it back. usually when i get duplicates, i'll sell it and buy an equal value item (or a couple lesser value items to add up) and send it back.

i don't know if something like this will appeal as much to the people who have to code it and implement it as it would to us. i don't know enough about the kind of coding that would go into this feature to say if it would be easy or hard. however, definitely agree that with the inability to access those two pages, it would be less of an issue for people trying to ruin their own christmas morning. i guess if you want to know that bad before the 25th, nothing is gonna stop you, haha.

i tend to do tons of small gifts and one big gift, if i have the money for that kind of thing. it would be useful to know that i'm not buying the same lesser value items that three other people also bought for that user. or that the one big gift i buy them/spend all my sP on isn't just a waste. i have a LOT of people to gift, so mutual friend coordinating would only work like two times out of ten.

anyways, yeah, tl;dr, i support this.

Definite support, it gets really awkward if I get a duplicate of something valuable or something hard to use two of. I don't awful like reselling things that were given to me out of kindness, it's just.. mm.

As long as people can still choose to give duplicates (for hoards/boosters/currency, etc), it'd be a great utility to have.

This would be really nice. I hate not knowing if the gift I got someone is something someone else already got them.

gnfjdngkjdf, big mood. I generally only have a couple of friends gift my trees but this year I've been posting in the forums a lot and gifting more people and I expect I might get more gifts- having duplicates would probably destroy me a little inside bc I'd feel terrible selling them, but also lmao what to do with them xD

i like the idea of knowing that someone already has a duplicate of a gift, but people able to gift a duplicate anyway- like with subq invites or stat boosters and stuff, where you might want a duplicate. but lmao i see how it could be abused >_>

I like where this concept is going, I was just thinking about this earlier. I support some sort of function to sort this out.

message [This user has already been given x, would you like to send as a duplicate?] I like this idea but see how it could become "annoying" to have to always click yes or no on an item

possibility of maybe a check on or off feature somewhere on whether or not to accept duplicates at Lumi?

I don't know anything about coding, but just some possibilities :)

Blocking all the duplicates is a stupid idea in case of usables like mage amulets, mage tomes, credit gift cards. I would love to get tons and tons of amulets. It also kinda ruind the suprise i guess?

I don't think duplicates can be avoided without really complicating gift giving. What if I spend 100M on a gift, go to put it under their tree and it says its already there. What do I do with that 100M item I just bought?

I suppose I could only buy stuff for people that are my own wishlist so I can just keep the item for myself.

On top of that, I'm a terrible last minute shopper (yeah my problem to deal with, I know), but I really don't need added clicks when gifting items.

I'm going to say no for this, and not just because I wouldn't mind if every gift under my tree was a SUBQ invite.

At the end of the day, it's the thought that counts. When people gift me random things out the year, things I usually never need, I toss it into the vault if nothing else, because somebody wanted to something nice or cute. I don't view the trees as anything different. It's not necessarily a bad thing to get something you can't use. Somebody still thought you enough to put it under your tree.

I can also see people not gifting something because they don't want to give that person a duplicate, even if those duplicates are welcome. If I look through a WL and their WL alone (which is usually how I gift random people), I don't know if they're a hoarder or not, or if they want a plushie for a TC and their plushie collection but only have the plushie under one category (I do this all the time). I would probably not give them the item if I was told they had a duplicate that they may have wanted anyway because my first instinct is not to trouble anyone. That would certainly make shopping more stressful for me.

I think brings up a good point. If the suggestion is that it tells you the message when you go to put the item under the tree... well I mean, that requires you to already have the item. Wouldn't it be more useful to know this before you buy the item? And that's more complicated to check, plus you could still end up duplicate-gifting if you and another gifter were thinking of the same item at the same time. I don't know how much a check on the tree gifting page would help, because you'd already have bought the gift by that point.

There's also the worry of abuse. Not just to ruin your own gifts, but to ruin other people's or to creep on what other people are getting for Lumi. Any way to to check a gift for redundancy would run this risk of both privacy and ruining the surprise.

But I hoard a thing so I'd like to get duplicates of it. :c While some people don't like duplicates, I don't see why it's that big of a deal. Like it's not your fault someone else got the person the same thing and the person can sell/trade/gift to another person who wants it so...

I agree with and . I think something like this would take away some of the fun by making it overly complicated and just cause more issues. Besides, not really necessary - especially because there are a ton of cases where users would like or use duplicates.

No support.

Instead, get creative with gifting!! Whether it be random wl items, carefully chosen care packages, specific themes regarding collections, wears, colors (??) whatever they're into+items that made you think of them, and even straight up hoarder style duplicate gifting; friends will love that shit and no one doesn't expect duplicates anyhow so wotevz

In the past, I have offered my duplicates in my thanking thread to anyone who gifted me OR I'll gift out duplicates using the wishlist search feature ~nbd :3

This is a tricky one, and and make excellent points. At the same time, I do agree that giving and receiving duplicates of items with only one use (like wears) is not much fun. TBH, I wouldn't mind a 'This user has already item X under their tree' notification (if I've already spent millions on the item, I could try to sell/trade it for something else - there's plenty of time in December to sort out gifts), but I can also live without it. And it still wouldn't help if some gifts are given out via gift boxes instead of stashed under the tree.

...well, this was a useful bit of feedback shrugs

Yes! ... but don't block the opportunity of receiving duplicates.

I'm on the fence because it's a risk of ruining the surprise and I dislike that. But also, what if people want duplicate? (ie battle, books etc). It would make things more difficult. Also, what if the person has bought the item prior to seeing the message? It would be their loss and it goes a bit against the spirit of Luminaire. I agree with much of the points brought out here. I'm not against it but there could be some serious issues/stress with this.

At first I thought this was a great idea but then the more I thought about it, the more I don't like the idea and here's why:

  • I want multiples of books because I want to educate all of my pets to get them the best jobs they can get at the job centre (personal goal),
  • I also want multiples of items for my pets' treasures,
  • Weapons are another thing I want multiples of so that I can have one in my wardrobe and one in my armory,
  • food items to feed to my pets and also if they are cheap enough to give to Charity,
  • Survival flowers for the achievement, -and many more examples.

What would one do in RL if you got two of the same thing??? Either regift it or sell it or exchange it for another gift. Just think of your tree here in the same way you'd think of your tree at home.

Maybe instead of a duplicate blocker on the trees we can have a gift exchange option in the gift centre where you can take return your duplicate gifts and exchange them for something else of same value that you want.

exactly what i wanted to say. what's the point if avoiding duplicates requires you to still buy the item? maybe it's not so bad for the less expensive items, but for some of the heftier, as well as cash shop, that's... well, pretty moot feature.

in my own experience the duplicates aren't that many. i got maybe... two? out of, like, 120 items, not counting sbq invites or boosters.

also, what's so bad about reselling? i'd understand if my irl friends returned a gift they'd received more than one of, same goes for subeta. it's sp down Their Pocket at the end of the day, and it's sp i initially spent to Give To Them to begin with, so i'm none out, really.

I don't know it could work if there was the option something like, "this user already has this item under their tree do you wish to proceed in sending anyway" thing is like Lypsyl and Bug stated above, for that to happen means you've already bought the item to start with so....
I personally wait till after Luminare and then gift, that way all WL items are updated and I can proceed to gift without doubt.
