some of the achievements in progress have more done than i have been,um, credit for...like this 20,719 / 1,000. what does this mean?

Sometimes achievements can do weird things like that if more tiers were added after you had already done enough for it previously. Or it could just be a weird bug for some of them.

Try doing more of whatever the achievement tells you to maybe get it to register it as completed, and if that doesn't work you can file a ticket and a staff member can help you figure it out.
