If you want to buy anything that might be for baking you will need to do research at Subetalodge to find out what Restocking Shops they specifically are at and then sit there on those specific shops and restock those specific things.

A steamed dumpling with things inside that you don't know about? There are bao here you can't take them apart and cook with them, they are only for your pet to eat. Their contents are not a surprise.

In my country in big cities there are fancy diet companies that will send you a box with all the things you need to make their own (good for you?) recipes. Subeta doesn't do that. You can Suggest it.

There is one and only one random-foods-for-baking generator, it's the Baking Kit.

Are you asking for a more general way what things you can open to get other, surprising things? Vending Machines work like that except you don't get to virtually open a box anymore. They do have a rarity limit each Machine has a range of possible items from which you get your surprise.

If you want to Vend for profit (and not just the fun of being surprised) try Celebration Gift, because there were new recipes written by Fantine, and Celebration Gift Vends food items. Some of those food items will be pricey.

During Luminaire you can try Mysterious Melody, although there is a live human being on the other end of that, so the results may or may not surprise you.

There's a few other random items and things that I can think of, too. The first four items can be opened and give you a selection of items.

You can find out what they all give on Subetalodge. Here's the Pastry Box, for example. You can read the Papers to your pets, while the Pastries have their own collection. The Feral Accessory Trunk and Morostide Makeup Case are both found in the Cash Shop. There's also Chance Machines in the Cash Shop that give out lots of great items!

There's also the Treasure Maps. Once you collect all 9 individual pieces, you can turn them and get a few items from it. The Coin Machine in Centropolis takes special coins and hands out items, sP and stats. Lastly, you can buy a Scratchcard from Scratchcards every 12 minutes, or buy them from shop search, for a chance to win items, sP and stats or even the jackpot!

There are a few other items which give out other items: gives out a random plushie up to r50 gives out a random colcannon coin item (which is otherwise useless) gives out one of four wearable items (Frog Royalty Crown, Gratitude of the Frog Prince, Gratitude of the Frog Princess, or Frog Royalty Warts) gives out a random item containing the phrase 'candy cane'. The other Luminaire Crackers work the same, but with items with different words/phrases and other stockings give out random items give a random item with the word 'purple' in its name and the other stove items give out a random item with the word 'burnt' in its name gives out a random Bairin item (all random odds and ends and of no other use, except the Bairin Simple Gold Ring, which is wearable)

You got some good responses from other users after my post. I wonder if the WIkia for Subeta has a page like this. I don't know that Subetalodge has a Notes that can answer this question in a general way.

You could run an Item Notes search based on open option to get an almost complete list of items that open to give you more/different items. Its a long list though, because it includes the collection bags and costume trunks as well as the more general items.

Unfortunately Bairin Breac and a few other items won't show up on the list because they have the "use option" rather than the "open option" when you click on them in your inventory.

this is excellent information. It might be possible to refine this with rarity limits and time released since Costume Trunks are no longer made.
