I'm new here on Subeta, and so far every single thing here is as confusing as a snake swallowing it's tail. First, the food. I've been getting free food from Charity, but it's a pitiful amount and she doesn't let me take any more and tries to get me to donate what I don't even have enough of. When I try to feed the food to my pets, they saw "Eww, that's gross" and "Are you trying to poison me?". So I'm totally at a loss. Happiness meter. I only have 690sP, so clearly as with food, it's not exactly a thing I can handle. Earning sP. The guide tells me to play games, so I did. I've played a couple games for a whole half hour and yet have to earn 1sP. The tutorial. I never discovered it until recently, and it won't get past the adopt a pet stage, even when I already had. I just adopted a new pet since I was desperate for any help. No further help came from the tutorial except having me buy stuff from the markets, which wasn't helping with my food problem. I had already adopted 3 pets before the tutorial. My account is a mess. Any help?
Pets don't die here. The phrases that are "spoken" after eating are just phrases. Nothing to think about :) Happiness can be obtained by giving your pet a minion, it will keep the happiness always at 10/10.
You should check out the pet Newbie, it has a great guide for new users!
the tutorial being broken again, oh my. In Subeta - Help - Tickets you can as a User Administrator to help you figure out if this is a bug or if there's something you need to do, and they may be able to force the Tutorial to continue for you.
If you read a book or feed a food to a pet, they say totally completely random things. This has nothing to do with your pet's Happiness. Happiness can be gained also by playing with toys. In Subeta pets are destructive so toys get used up, and this is not yet useable option for you. You can also lodge them in the Resort in the lower left corner of Veta Lake and this will both feed and keep your pets happy. The decrease in Hunger and increase in Happy will happen over time, in a few hours.
Games will give you sP, but not necessarily a good amount of sP. The game that gives the most sP for the effort is Matlal's Jewels which is a variation on Candy Crush/Bejewelled, followed by Caliph's Tomb. I have no idea why the Tutorial says Games are the major source of income, because that was screwed over years ago. Quests are what you should do instead. Do Sarah's Quests (also in Veta I think) She is super generous to new players. Then do as many other quests as you can. Usually it doesn't matter how expensive the things they ask for but since you're new for a few days try to spend less than sixty thousand sP for each request the quest grantor makes.
If you're concerned about food to keep your pets fed, you can go to the Underground Spring and fish every 3 minutes to pick up food. You'll get a few non-food items, and sometimes you'll get nothing at all, but you can get lots and lots of food and there is no cost to fish in this location.
You'll also want to regularly visit the Donation Corner. Sometimes its empty, other times you'll find some junk there and on very rare occasions you'll find some awesome treasure.
There are a lot of hidden corners in the world, so its easy to feel overwhelmed. Take a deep breath, relax and take some time to explore the world. Know that your pets won't die, nothing bad will happen if they are hungry or sad, you have time to get used to the world.

if you want to keep your pets fully fed, it's easier to just check them into the lakeside resort in veta. and to keep them at full happiness, simply give them a minion. note pets will not eat food or play with a toy if their hunger/happiness are full.
that said, there are no drawbacks to having a hungry or unhappy pet unless you want to use them to battle. in fact, if you want to start doing major drills quests (which is a fun way to get acquainted with various site features and a nice chance to earn some valuable items), it's good to have at least one pet who is always hungry/unhappy, as he will sometimes ask you to feed/play with a pet.
as far as earning sP goes, your best bet is to do some quests. however you may want to build up a little more sP before starting, so i'd recommend playing games like spectrail, burrero basket bonanza, and caliph's tome. check out a bunch of different games, find ones you're good at, and don't forget to send your score when you've finished to receive the sP you've won.
once you've got a few thousand, you're good to start with sarah's quests. do all her quests, then move on to some others - wizard quests are usually pretty affordable and give nice rewards, including wizard tokens, which you can either sell in your shop or save up - i recommend the latter, because wizard tokens can be spent in the token shop (a news post is made when items are added, so don't worry if it's empty right now) and there might be some cool or valuable items in there you'd like.
soon enough you're sure to have at least 100k sP, so you can feel free to do all the quests you can (all quests link to one another via a tab bar on the top of the page) and you'll be rolling in sP in no time. i also like to have the quests widget on my sidebar so i can see at a glance which quests i've done for a day; you can add this widget on the customize sidebar page. i also suggest adding the 'shop search' and 'search subeta' widgets, and 'your account' if you don't already have that one (it will be titled Subeta: Nightfleet).
let me know if you have any other questions.

Pad out your wishlist with a variety of different value items, from cheap to insanely expensive. A lot of folks here love randomly gifting other players, especially new ones, with whatever they can afford. Most of all, have fun!
