I've never really been able to find very much for rules for fanpets; but considering a good number of Spotlight winners are fanpets, I assume for the most part they're allowed as long as there's no plagiarism and sources are properly credited and nothing is stolen. But my problem lies in the lack of explicit rules, from what I can find.

There's a petsite that I still lurk for nostalgia's sake, but I do not actively play it anymore, Subeta's my top petsite now; but the nostalgia side of me feels like making a little reference pet to a favorite pet type I had on the other site, only in such a way that keeps to Subeta's rules and in a way that DOES NOT intentionally promote the site, just references for the purpose of proper credit. Subeta has shown that fanpets are okay, but I haven't been able to find any instances when it in any way involves fanpets of another pet site, so I'm not sure where they stand on that.. whether it's something like "it's okay but with these changes" or an outright "that is not allowed". I know other petsites can be touchy about.. competing sites, but with Subeta I'd like to make sure.. I've kept out of trouble here for the most part, and I don't want this to be a fatal error by continuing without confirmation.

I've been looking around the site's rules and guidelines for some time now for whether my plan is alright or not, and as far as I can tell, as long as it remains within the tribute pet rules and is only mentioning and NOT promoting the petsite, I think it should be okay? While I still remain not 100% sure though, and before I start prettifying the pet, I'd like to make sure it's all clear. My time here on Subeta has been good, I just wanna bring over a bit of nostalgia in a way that's okay.

filing a ticket is definitely your best bet, but i will say this: if it is an issue, it will not be in the "you are in trouble and will be punished" kind of way, but almost certainly in a "this just isn't what we want for the pet spotlight but you are welcome to do as you wish with your pets" kind of way. the only 'consequence' to this would just be... not having that pet eligible for the spotlight, i can't imagine you'd get in trouble or anything.

i remember some years ago (i think in 2011? but i could be wrong) someone won spotlight with a pet that v heavily mentioned the thieves guild from neopets so idk i don't think it would be a problem but ye i agree that filing a ticket would be best :>

It's good that you filed a ticket. I had a question about making a pet with a questionable name (Arseface) on site and had to wait quite a while for a definite answer. It took several weeks, but I didn't mind being patient, especially considering I was able to make the pet.

yep! flight rising is another pet site, and i think i recall the pet thespian is talking about - so i don't see this being a problem! but please, by all means, do let us know of the verdict if you're allowed to do so. i know a good friend of mine has a pet that is, for all intents and purposes in design, a baby lupe; they just modified it slightly to match the telenine's aesthetic.

as others have mentioned, i have no idea how this will affect your chances at spotlight because, i personally don't even have that option turned on. but my pet (emo) will eventually have a design that is a throwback to the original 'grey'/sad color on the pet site you mentioned. i don't see this being a problem, really. i think as long as you properly credit it (species/color/design/idea copyright to petsitename) and don't promote ("species/color/design/idea copyright to linkedpetsite, go play today!!") there shouldn't be an issue?

there are a few pets that are named after other pet sites/pet site species. however most of them are relatively 'plain' (no designs, no pages, etc) so i don't know if staff has really taken a look at them. anyways, best of luck (also, grats on your new pet, always thought they were particularly cute)! ❤️

There is that, yes, but since I could only find that rule attached to that specific feature, it doesn't help as much as I'd like it to on whether that OKs other usages.
