...I visit Subeta forums and see threads with zero responses. Especially if the poster is asking for advice or opinion on their art or something. ; n ; And then, if the thread is super old (usually is) I don't dare to respond because I'll get told off by mods for necroing threads. T n T;;;
the forums are kinda slow sadly q __ q apparently they used to be much more active years ago?? i wasn't really around/didn't use the forums then so i can't really say anything about it i wish they were more active tho ; v ;
as a sidenote tho i always feel kinda weird giving art feedback or critique or anything to people i don't know?? sobs i'm scared i'll come off as harsh or nitpicky haha
I guess they were more active. Not sure what happened. :/ Global lurker outbreak.
People react to feedback so uniquely, it's a bit worrying. Like do they just want ego-stroking or actual constructive criticism? But I always try to say something I like and something that could be improved if someone is asking for it. :3 Maybe they'll learn to love real feedback if they don't already.
i do that too actually! when i was in high school my art teacher had us critique each other's work, and then would critique our critique it was actually really good tho |D
tbh i feel much more comfortable critiquing literature or movies over art :>
...you know, i think we did that too. It's a pretty good way to learn to do it right, imho.
I can understand movies, because those are a group effort, so no single person is to blame if it sucks (except when it's an ultrapopular director for example...) but I wonder what's up with you and literature... o . o
The forums used to be way more active years ago. I agree; it's kinda sad to see how slow they are now and see threads with zero responses.
... and also i watch a lot of movie critics actually i watch more movie reviews than actual movies lmao
haha i think it's bc i def feel more confident about my writing than art and also i read a lot so i can give better feedback?? like i can usually figure out why something works or doesn't aside from 'idk it's just bad' n __ n
Oh, do you like the jokey reviews like Channel Awesome? :3c I used to love Channel Awesome but nearly all my favorite ppl have left, so I migrated to good old Youtube. (And me too. I know so many movies from reviews but never get around to watching the real deal. lDDD)
Fair enough. u 3 u It's like I'm with music. I can just say "i like" or "no like" but when pressed for details Idk what to say. ; w ;
Ikr it breaks my heart. ; n ; I bet a lot of people leave the site because of the lack of connection with other users.
i like them!! i used to like the old nostalgia critic better, but i still watch them from time to time |D i mostly watch ralphthemoviemaker, ihateverything, yourmoviesucks, chris stuckman, adam does movies and a bunch of others i watch so many people jesus @ v @
oh man i feel you haha my best friend is a musician so i've kinda picked up some things from him?? but still like, i usually can't explain why i like something, i just do q v q
I watch IHE and YMS too, and also Cinema Snob and Phelous. I loved loved loved Spoony and Shameful Sequels but they don't seem to be doing much these days. sadface
I have a few music nerd friends so yeah, same, but with the difference that I'm extremely dumb and forgetful, so I tend to put down what I pick up. xDDD OTL
I wish that the Subeta forums were more active. It always feels a bit like a ghost town when there's no event going on. I'm also not sure why cults/forum groups have never really taken off here.
Feedback threads are hard, though! I'm never quite sure what level of feedback they are looking for, and for art in particular I'm not qualified to comment.
T u T Yes, and event threads tend to be mostly just spam, not actual conversation... Do cults even exist anymore? And I thought forum groups are pretty busy but maybe they're just used for pinging...
Everyone is qualified to comment on art. :3
OH MAN i love phelous!! tbh he's the reason i love shitty disney rip-offs so much |D
i met a lot of great friends through my forum group ; v ; but there aren't many big/active ones, i feel? idk it would be nice to have more forum groups in general haha
Omg another Phelous fan?! Everyone I show his videos to say he's annoying and don't give him a chance. ; W ; I love the shitty disney ripoffs, but I wish he'd still do shitty horror movies once in a while.
There definitely are some active forum groups on the site! There just isn't a big organized "guild" scene like I expected there to be. I'd like to find a good chatty forum group, though.
my brother can't stand him orz dude same!! i binge-watched them all a while back since i usually watch reviews while drawing |D my favorites are the weird internet ones! like the one with the internet ghosts and feardotcomor w/e it was called haha
ah i get what you mean! a while back someone was going to start a gaming forum group but that didn't happen sadly ; v ; god i remember back on my neopets days i was in so many guilds lmao......
Ahhh... Pulse reviews. xD Also I guess with the amount of in-jokes in his videos it can be a little intimidating for a new viewer. ("No one has it worse than me" has become such a meme with me and my bestie. It's from the time he paid 34 cents for the crappy Aladdin DVD instead of 33 cents.)
I usually check the chit chat once per login at least, I just recently started up again after making an account on a friend's recommendation a few years ago, guess I missed the hype train. But I think part of it is that the audience on Subeta is generally older now, and more of us are less inclined to make frivolous topics, which is something of a necessity for a bustling forum, and frivolity leads to socialization.
You might have a point there, but aren't there new people coming in, kids as well? :3
Oh I'm sure, actually I don't think it's out of the question that there could be a revival, I actually was just browsing a music thread and I was surprised at some of the new people bringing new (to Subeta, familiar to me) tastes into the fray. Maybe it just needs a shove in the right direction. I'm sure in my free time I'm gonna be concocting some frivolous chit chat topics and humungo paragraph responses, so hopefully that's direction to head in :)
