where the heck is the lodge/motel place pets stay at so I can go away for a bit without them starving? I found it once, and can't remember to save my life.

Lakeview Resort is in Veta Lake. Rathskeller Inn is in the Omen Islands. :)
The one in Veta you can use up to 21 days at 200 sp per pet per day, and it has a gold account perk to put all your pets in at once (50 sp extra). The one on the islands you can use up to 31 days at 200 sp per pet per day.
Additionally, the Inn feeds your pets, but does not do anything about their happiness. The Resort does both.

I think it's pretty much always been that way, but having a minion keeps your pet happy, so it's not usually a big deal or something that most people really notice.
no it wasn't always that way. It started making pets happy at the same time that the Resort was revamped. The reason I know this is because I was preferentially keeping my pets at the Inn because I was doing my Major Drills quests for Achievement at the time. I would leave my eaterpet out of the Inn and Resort both, but give it a Minion, and I would leave my playerpet in the Inn. Afterwards, if I wanted to do Drills, I had to manually feed my playerpet. I have an Infinity Berry, but I saw much complainage at the time.
Now this isn't to say that the Inn hasn't been changed back since then, because without the "it won't amuse your pets" advantage, the extra week is not worth it to me compared to the GA perk of checking in all thirty of my pets. But it never was always the same.
