On Aug 21, there will be a solar eclipse that will plunge most of the US into darkness for a few seconds.
I'm in Ontario, Canada, so I won't be able to see this happen. There is a lot of talk on the internet that the Solar Eclipse will be Doomsday. I don't know if you heard about the super volcano in Yellow Stone that is slowly waking up, but apparently this Eclipse will cause the volcano to erupt, causing all the other super volcanoes around the world to erupt as well.
Now.. "if" the Yellow Stone volcano did erupt, the US will literally be wiped off the map, sending Canada into a volcanic winter for 4-6 years. Food will be hard to get. We're in the path of ash and Toronto will get the least ash.
On Aug 20, I'm planning Chinese Food and coconut cream pie as my "last meal". I know, I know.. it's stupid.
What do you guys think?
Friendly pings (cause maybe I wanted to double ping you)
drinking to that! bahhaha but seriously, thats crazy shit.
Talk come and goes about when it will erupt -- an eclipse is just about right to get people excited again. Old Faithful doesn't erupt as often as it used to because the water under it is cooling off. You'd think if there was a huge ol magma bubble ready to burst, we'd be seeing more vent-related activity, not less.
Personally, I think our president is FAR MORE LIKELY to cause our destruction than any volcano. He certainly is more volatile.
But that's no reason why we couldn't have an end-of-days party. I'm always game for a party! :)
Omg.. Trump would cause the end of the world. North Korea is launching missiles so they can eradicate the US. We're fall out too, so.. we'll all get obliterated.
They say it won't erupt for another few million years (or is it billion. I don't remember), but I don't believe that. If it's gonna blow, it'll blow ;p
It's only going to be a party of one, sadly.
I just noticed I'll spend my "last day" at work. So.. how am I going to get Chinese Food? This place doesn't take visa-debit lol
You got bunnies at that shop? I hear it tastes just like chicken... lol Seriously though, maybe grab some to go on your way home after work?
We sold our last bunny. I'm allergic to them anyway :c
We had one girl quit at work and the other girl's last shift is this Saturday I think, so I don't know what's going on. I work Fridays and Sundays. I might be rotating between Fridays and Saturdays and my usual shift is Sunday.
I might have to move my last dinner plans to Thursday or something, hit the margarita after work on Sunday and then spend Sunday night with my family cough
So no hasenpfeffer? ;)
Nope lol
I love conspiracy theories, so this is amazing. I may have giggled, but mostly because what if it's true? Haha
I'm going to try to stay out and watch it. Watch my death.
No need to worry, there's absolutely no connection between this eclipse and the Yellowstone volcano. The only possibility for "disaster" resulting from the eclipse is one of logistics, as millions of people try to cram into the relatively narrow zone of totality (myself included, yeah I'll be part of the problem but I'll be damned if I'll miss this haha). So...awful, unprecedented traffic that may impede local emergency services, possibly overloaded cell towers resulting in disruption to communications, and suddenly overpopulated areas that may not have enough food/water/other services to support the influx of people. It could be pretty messy, but not literally world-ending. (To anyone who will be traveling for this, make sure you bring lots of supplies like extra water and anything you might need if you get stuck in traffic for many more hours than you'd otherwise expect.)
However, I understand the draw to such ideas, as I do enjoy entertaining fantasies about apocalyptic scenarios since I'm a terrible, miserable person who hates everything lol (not really but I do tend to get pretty cynical about things sometimes). There are plenty of very real threats in the world to consider without worrying about tabloid pseudoscience though.
I tend to be cynical myself, but any kind of theory tends to pull me in. When it doesn't happen, it's like "Oh. Have to wait for the next one" lol.
There is a theory going on in Canada right now about how we should be prepared for the next fatal pandemic and it's going to be the flu. They're actually warning all funeral homes of an overload and not being able to support all the deaths, and to use ice trucks and arenas to store dead bodies if needed. They're saying we're long overdue. I think it's been 40 some years. Idk, but there was one in 1918-1919 in Spain (fatal flu pandemic) and then it hit the US in 19something and again in 1958-1959 (that was the last one).
So now.. I need a hazmat suit, quit my job and not leave the house lol
"The influenza or flu pandemic of 1918 to 1919, the deadliest in modern history, infected an estimated 500 million people worldwide–about one-third of the planet's population at the time–and killed an estimated 20 million to 50 million victims." And people were nowhere near as mobile as they are today... On the plus side, when we had that outbreak of Ebola in Africa a few years ago, the world responded rapidly to send aid -- medical personnel and supplies -- to the affected countries. It was probably the swiftest response to a disease ever in human history, and probably why it never became a full-blown pandemic. :)
I'm also in Ontario and according to this we'll see the sun mostly covered so that's cool. :D I'm really looking forward to it! Though I would love to see a total solar eclipse someday.
As for the doomsday stuff... it's hard to believe that people still believe in that stuff. I mean, I can understand if they're raised in a cult, or they're uneducated but if you're living in a first world country and have a good education and aren't in a cult or something there's zero reason to believe in that nonsense. You'd have to be just... incredibly stupid. Idk, if anyone I know believes in this stuff I'd pretty much cut them out of my life just because of that. I couldn't be polite enough to just be like, "Uh okay you do you," I'd just be like, "Wtf is wrong with you?? Were you dropped on your head? How can you remember how to breathe??"
There's actually already a thread for this in the Current Events subforum over ">here. You're free to continue your discussions over there! :)
