Hello guys! So I am in the process of overhauling Newbie's helpful guide. (Don't worry I am not changing anything yet!) Aside from an eventual new profile, I want to ensure that the information is up to date and clear. One challenge that I am currently tackling is also condensing it character wise because as of right now it causes subeta to give me a firewall protection flare up whenever I go to edit it. I am going to do that by changing all the URLs to subeta into a href so I can just do the path instead whole url. It also means I am going to change any urls to forum topics into topic scode. Aside from that, I still also have content to add and update. So I am looking for feedback!
Pinging users who helped in the past first queenie xiocite frafty cartel draken life amber hush jessi peppermint bathory alucakes VanDonovan fashionisto andraste runes christ crash jeheace jpeg destiny mythic scorpio guro knockout pumpkins kbbob Anything you two see that pops up a lot with newbies?
Anything you can think of outside the 2 things I was doing to free up some character space? Also any other feedback is welcomed from you!
If anyone else has any input I would love to hear it! And of course everyone will be appropriately credited if you are not already! Thanks. Also if anyone knows what tim or Orca issed too so I can update their credits.
The FAQ is always helpful but I've noticed not just on Subeta but other sites too that even if there is a helpful guide users won't go through it. Sometimes it's because it's too long to read through, other times it's difficult to follow. But I think it needs to be outlined for specific types of users, sectioned out almost. For example:
A-Restockers B-Questers C-Battlers D-Pet Hoarders E-Social/RP Users
Not to make it too much to take in for the different users we have coming in and those already here. This way a person wouldn't have to sift through all the things but only specific to the experience they are looking for on site. Does that make sense?
You can separate the CSS and host it on a different site, such as dropbox.com if you've got an account. That should free up a good amount of characters. I think or can help you with how to do that.
Minor edit suggestions:
Quests a. In Quest >> Shinwas: The guide says Shinwas will send us to all quests but Battle, Sarah and Drills. In fact, Shinwas excludes Saggi from her quest giver list too. b. Instead of 'Suggested Spending Limit' I think having something like 'Estimated Payout' might be okay too? It is actually very rare that a user would spend anywhere near 30k for a Wizard Quest. Plus for Malerias, sometimes she asks for a 30,000sP item but pays much less than that (especially if the item is from the spell galore. c. I think 'Weekend Special Candidate' can be merged with 'Exclusive Rewards', something like 'Exclusive Weekend Special Rewards'. For quests that aren't featured for the Weekend Special, there can be a note that the said quests are not currently eligible for WS. d. The tip for Quest widget can be condensed, or showing a screenshot with the 'Customize Sidebar' part highlighted.
I can see there are a lot of links to SL in the guide. I think it might be a good idea too to dedicate a section on how to use SL to look up items and item information. That way it will save the guide a lot of url paths. So for example instead of linking newbies to a list of special rewards for every WS-eligible quest giver, the guide only needs to tell them the keyword to look for those items on SL.
Thank you for the feedback. I get what you mean sectioning it out that way It just would shift a lot of things. So maybe I could just make a bulleted list of anchors of topics under each type of person? So they have like a table of contents for their specific relevant information in the welcome section. Will definitely add those minor fixes to shave off some characters. I was thinking also either using a symbol or changing the text of the quest givers that could be weekend ones as a visual cue. And yes it is very SL link heavy. Especially in the pets section. I will definitely take that into consideration because it would be useful to do a little demo and explain various search function, checklists .etc.
off top of my head I can't really think of anything right now, but I am just waking up and waiting to go to work lol..so I will take a peek after or after work tomorrow
i think tim is now o:
Were you ? Trying to update who helped with the guide.
Updating it right now! Thanks for the confirmation.
I'm sorry I've not been around, I was out of town. When I have a little more time I'll take a look and see what I might be able to help with. <3

No worries! Will gladly take your input though!
Loving the overhall. I don't really have anything to add to your new info. However, I did want to mention that I do plan on updating Dailies. It's been a very long time since I have updated him. My coding skills have also improved so I will be taking the time to update his page and all the dailies on it. ^.^
