I have a few questions about things that never actually mattered to me before and I now sort of need answers for him (I mean, if he actually decides to join, he'll need to know).

One of my questions is about Shinwa's quests: If you don't have the Omen Islands open, will Shinwa still give you Drunk Carl's quests? That'll tell me if I need to get him the map pieces (or at least the really expensive ones, since he won't have much money at first) or not.

Also, how do the referrals actually work? Do I have to register that I referred my brother, or does he just have to register that I referred him? And where/when would he actually find that? I've never had anyone to refer before to know! O.O

yes, you will need to have the map for Shinwa. I don't think the map is expensive at all anymore. Sarah dumps a whole bucketload of sP on you and it is worthwhile to spend that sP so he can continue to do it for Achievement, so let him buy those pieces, IMO>

When he registers, there will be a space for him to put your name as a referral. He does have to do some minimal actions and stick around awhile before the referral point will get awarded.

: Thanks for that! If the map pieces aren't very expensive anymore (I remember doing it when some were over 1,000,000sP!), I'll let him get them himself and just tell him he'll need them before doing anything for Shinwa!

And thanks for letting me know about the referrals! I wasn't too worried about the 'point', just the status part of that for other things it may affect in the future. :D Like extra CSCs we'd be able to use for things. :P

Also if he is going to make an account, I don't know if you live in the same household or use the same computer. But just be aware that if either of those is the case, you should both create tickets on your accounts to let staff know that you're two separate people playing on your own so it doesn't appear like one person trying to use two accounts.

: Thank you for mentioning it, but I have already talked to someone on the staff who has told me to let her know when my brother joins so she can add the note to both our accounts. I had read about that policy and thought it would be prudent to mention it in case he decides anytime soon.

He's actually been watching me for awhile, which is why he thought it might be worth-while to join (already been planning some pets he likes, but he's sort of a procrastinator), so he has a pretty good idea of how to work everything. :D But there are a few things I could still mention, and useful threads are good!

Just wanted to say that I have never, ever had Shinwa ask for a piece of her bracelet from Carl's quests. Neither before nor after I completed the map. She doesn't ask for Sagittarius or Sarah either. So the map may be nice, but it certainly isn't necessary.

On that note, I'm glad you're getting your brother to join. I think he will have fun here! :)

Shinwa certainly does ask for Carl quests. She didn't used to, but she was revamped in the past few months and Carl was added to her quest line up. I do Shinwa quests every day and she's sent me to Carl regularly. If you've done her quests recently and she hasn't sent you to Carl, then you've just been lucky (or unlucky if you happen to like Carl quests).

Really? It is entirely possible I haven't been paying attention lately (I don't really like doing Shinwa but feel obligated for some reason) and mistook Carl for Pete. Thanks for the clarification.

LOL I'm as likely as not to notice stuff like that too, but at the time they made the change there were a bunch of bug reports. Staff said he was added deliberately to encourage people to get the map, so it wasn't a bug.

Also the map pieces are pretty cheap in user shops, so you may as well get it anyway.

So, he finally made up his mind after, like, 2 months watching me play, so he joined under the name Meteorfall! O.O At least he isn't the only one with strange names, but he won't tell me whether he's referencing the meteor that destroyed the dinosaurs or the 'Meteorfall' event in Final Fantasy 7. T.T

Now to tell the staff! :D
