She shows you a picture:

"I need at least ten characters shown, named and numbered, and the wizard of words who created them all.
You can do that, right. Djoni says you&;re all the best!"

She hops onto the wolf&;s left foot and perches happily, waiting for you to solve the picture.

(OOC: This is the first part of Chapter Four. You need to solve Tamara&;s "Where&;s Waldo" variation, and smail the solution to me by Friday, July 7 at 11:59 pm Subeta time. After that, the chapter will continue here on this thread. Questions and comments on the OOC thread for this Chapter, please.)

Do we count the couple in the picture as one character or can we list them as 2?

I'd say the wordsmith is definitely

SPOILER (click to toggle) William Shakespeare

Okay, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the woman with blood on her hands is

SPOILER (click to toggle) Lady MacBeth, from Shakespeare's Macbeth.

What is it she does now? Look, how she rubs her hands. 30 Gentlewoman It is an accustomed action with her, to seem thus washing her hands: I have known her continue in this a quarter of an hour. LADY MACBETH Yet here's a spot. Doctor Hark! she speaks: I will set down what comes from her, to satisfy my remembrance the more strongly. LADY MACBETH Out, damned spot! out, I say!--One: two: why, then, 'tis time to do't.--Hell is murky!--Fie, my 40 lord, fie! a soldier, and afeard? What need we fear who knows it, when none can call our power to account?--Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him. Doctor Do you mark that? LADY MACBETH The thane of Fife had a wife: where is she now?-- What, will these hands ne'er be clean?--No more o' that, my lord, no more o' that: you mar all with this starting. 50 Doctor Go to, go to; you have known what you should not. Gentlewoman She has spoke what she should not, I am sure of that: heaven knows what she has known. LADY MACBETH Here's the smell of the blood still: all the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand. Oh, oh, oh!

The three women around the cauldron would be

SPOILER (click to toggle) the three witches, also from Macbeth, known only as Witch 2, Witch 2, and Witch 3

The woman in white with black hair is certainly

SPOILER (click to toggle) Cleopatra, from Antony and Cleopatra

The young couple are trickier... I mean, there is the obvious answer, but there are also LOADS of couples (including young ones) in his plays... But if we go with the obvious answer, they're probably

SPOILER (click to toggle) Romeo and Juliet, from... Romeo and Juliet...

The faun or satyr looking character is quite possibly

SPOILER (click to toggle) Puck, from a Midsummer Night's Dream

The guy with the skull in his hand is most certainly

SPOILER (click to toggle) Hamlet, in the "to be or not to be" soliloquoy

The blue woman is probably

SPOILER (click to toggle) the drowned Ophelia with her flowers, from Hamlet.

QUEEN GERTRUDE

One woe doth tread upon another's heel,

So fast they follow; your sister's drown'd, Laertes.

LAERTES

Drown'd! O, where?

QUEEN GERTRUDE

There is a willow grows aslant a brook,

That shows his hoar leaves in the glassy stream;

There with fantastic garlands did she come

Of crow-flowers, nettles, daisies, and long purples

That liberal shepherds give a grosser name,

But our cold maids do dead men's fingers call them:

There, on the pendent boughs her coronet weeds

Clambering to hang, an envious sliver broke;

When down her weedy trophies and herself

Fell in the weeping brook. Her clothes spread wide;

And, mermaid-like, awhile they bore her up:

Which time she chanted snatches of old tunes;

As one incapable of her own distress,

Or like a creature native and indued

Unto that element: but long it could not be

Till that her garments, heavy with their drink,

Pull'd the poor wretch from her melodious lay

To muddy death.

That author has written about loads of kings...

SPOILER (click to toggle) including Edward III (possibly), and Richard II and III, and Henry IV, V, and VI... (definitely). But, because of the dagger, I don't think he's one of the historical kings, but rather Macbeth himself.

MACBETH (to the SERVANT) Go bid thy mistress, when my drink is ready, She strike upon the bell. Get thee to bed. MACBETH (to the SERVANT) Go and tell your mistress to strike the bell when my drink is ready. Get yourself to bed.

Exit SERVANT

The SERVANT exits.

Is this a dagger which I see before me, The handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee. I have thee not, and yet I see thee still. Art thou not, fatal vision, sensible To feeling as to sight? Or art thou but A dagger of the mind, a false creation, Proceeding from the heat-oppressèd brain? I see thee yet, in form as palpable As this which now I draw. Thou marshall’st me the way that I was going, And such an instrument I was to use. Mine eyes are made the fools o' th' other senses, Or else worth all the rest. I see thee still, And on thy blade and dudgeon gouts of blood, Which was not so before.

I'm inclined to think the man with the staff is

SPOILER (click to toggle) Prospero, the wizard from The Tempest. He had a magic staff that he uses until he breaks it or it is broken, and he loses his power.

I think that leaves only one more person, the guy in brown, with the bald head. He's trickier... I don't see many clues as to who he might be... :/ OH wait..

SPOILER (click to toggle) Othello was a Moor, which meant he was probably one of the darkest skinned characters in Shakespeare's plays... So it's probably him....

There is also one almost-hidden face, that doesn't seem to be repeated.

SPOILER (click to toggle) I found it between the second and third witch in the iteration of them that is farthest towards the bottom right-hand corner. That must be Shakespeare himself, tucked into the image.

I put this image together with the people I spotted...

SPOILER (click to toggle)

Okay, guys, I think I found everyone (you can see an image with all the names up above, along with individual spoilers for each character, who I think it is and why...

If everyone agrees, I'll send the answer to GreenRowan, but if you guys disagree, I can still make changes. :)

It looks good to me :3 I had almost forgot about Orthello being one of his plays. Learned that one in drama class in high school.

Woah! ^_^ You really know your classics! I only had a few of them figured out after I saw the guy holding a skull. I think I agree with what you have, but also think we have enough time to try and get some feedback from the others as well, so as not to be too hasty.

;) This was a bit tougher for me, as I don't remember having to read many of his stuff (other than the obvious - R&J, Hamlet, Macbeth). I probably did, I just forgot about them after the homework was done. (Or I just didn't get as much fun out of them...)

Haha... Well, I loved Shakespeare, honestly. I went through an early middle English kick, reading Shakespeare, and using a KJV bible, and all of that. I had the complete works of Shakespeare, and I read most of them! So yeah, I think I figured out most of them in just a few minutes. :O Couldn't help myself! :P

But honestly, I had way more fun with them on my own than in class. And I think R&J is quite possible one of his worst works. And that's the one they always teach... I think I had to do that one in school twice. Blech.

Yeah, I think that one tends to get forgotten, maybe because it is also considered his "racist" play. But you can't blame the guy, really. The one Moor he probably based the play on is quite possibly the only person of "color" he ever saw, considering the times and his location... But still, yeah, seen from a modern view of skin colors, racism, and all of the problems the world experiences because of them... That play gets a bit tricky...

:) I don't remember if it was Macbeth or Hamlet, but one of those (probably, memory's not the best..) that I had the most fun with because, though it wasn't drama, we got to act it out in class and change characters every Act. Which was lucky (?) for those that 'died'. ^_^ Haha!

Orthello....Orthello.... that seems so familiar.... I'm gonna have to look that one up.

Honestly, I do really enjoy reading classical works. It's hard sometimes, though, to slow down in this world and find a quiet time and place to read them. :(

I absolutely love both Macbeth and Hamlet... They're fun ones. I memorized the witches' toil and trouble speech, and Hamlet's "to be or not to be". :D

But honestly, I love his comedies... "The Comedy of Errors" is great. And "As You Like it"...

Look up Reduced Shakespeare Company. They are old videos, but I think they are still hilarious. XD

And then theirs that one actor who's in every single Shakespeare play, Kenneth Branagh. Much Ado About Nothing with him in it is pretty fun to watch :3

Also, extra guess, Tamara likes to be called Tami? Why?

^_^ Haha! I like it!
Your guess is as good as mine on that nickname. I feel like maybe it was mentioned in an earlier WS, or perhaps there's a clue in the thread she made about stuff we need to know? I know she was one of the two girls in the preview thread for WS5, but I didn't really find anything there. If we can't figure anything else out in time, I say we go with that one. (and perhaps put that definition with it to see if the judges get a kick out of it too.) ;)

So it looks like if we want the bonus answers from Tamara, hints for where we should go in the choosing room, then we'd better guess a name, yes.

I'm a bit more worried about the second GreenRowan comment:

Green Rowan:

Please note what Tamara says about the puzzle she gives you and amend your solution if need be. I have a team that got it all right but is going to lose points for not following the directions fully. I know I probably shouldn&;t warn you and I won&;t in the future, but it&;s early in the game, so one time warning!

I looked over her words one more time, and spotted this bit:

Quote

I need at least ten characters shown, named and numbered, and the wizard of words who created them all.

Note that they need to be named AND NUMBERED. So I've fixed that. But if you guys could take a glance, too, to make sure we're submitting right, that would be amazing...

11 hours remaining to submit. Feel free to check that our answer (see two posts up) fits all the expectations, and that you agree with our answer.

We only have one comment/suggestion about which nickname the princess prefers (see Guardian Angel's post, post ), so if you have an idea about that, make sure you share it soon.

I don't know if I can take part in this current round. The days around 4th of July were hectic and we just had a scare with my mom and I am not emotionally sound right now. :( I'll still try to pop in later tomorrow if I can.

Edit: I've calmed down a lot since writing that and I worried GuardianAngels so I wanted to clarify that everyone in my household is fine, just really shaken after a scary experience with my mom. She's fine now, but that really scared and shaken feeling is still lingering and I'm not sure I'll be up to doing much tonight or tomorrow before this puzzle is do... I meant to get on tonight after missing a few days due to the holiday/other family stuff but functioning is really hard.

I'm sorry I can't take part in any roleplay this time. It's not required this round is it??? :( I've tried my best to read through everything to understand what's going on... I think the puzzle looks good? I wasn't even sure what we were supposed to do until I saw what everyone had figured out. (I have very little Shakespeare knowledge xP) I like GuardianAngels reasoning for the name. As far the "choosing where to go" part of the puzzle... was it meaning what pictures we choose to look at? Is that what we're supposed to ask her about if we guess the right name?

You're officially a reluctant, so no need to panic. :) When you can participate, great, but when you can't, you can't. And no, the roleplay would be optional. It's just if we want to keep it up. :)

I hope everything calms down, and until it does, don't let us add to your stress!

And yeah, when the chapter continues, we're going to have to decide on two locations we want to visit, from the five locations pictured in the challenge room. We haven't gotten to that part yet, but it's not a bad idea to do some discussing first, since I don't know how much time we'll have to make the decision. shrugs

Oh, and that 11 hours was wrong... I think I was calculating to subeta's 11 am, not pm. Blech, I hate time math.... So we have about sixteen hours left? But as usual, that time limit will go off in the early morning hours of Saturday for me, so I'd like to submit before bed, and I might submit in four or five hours, when/before my hubby gets off work.

Ahem...yeah, so I was going to post all my wild theories (and why they should probably be ignored..), but my computer was either running slow, being hacked, or someone stealing our wifi or something. I then lost all of said information (that probably wouldn't have made a difference in the long run, but still.... -_-* ) when I had to turn everything off for a while.

To make things short, YES I agree with all of the answer guesses up until now. (Not that it makes a dif. now, but I still felt like I should post..) =_= le sigh I'm gonna go get lunch now....
