hi ive been trying to save some clothing overlays as .png for colour-picking~ but a lot of them arent saving as .png anymore and are saving as .webp instead. some .gif files are also giving the same problem. ive tried it on two laptops and neither is able to open .webp files.
does anyone else have this issue, or is it just me? or does anyone know how to convert .webp files to other formats?
also (and this doesnt have to be answered because i might be a real noob at file extensions, but) how come onsite pictures are starting to be saved as .webp? when we upload files for cws, they most certainly have to be .png and .gif or else the system automatically rejects it. but how come they get converted?
for those who dont want to scroll through the thread to see how the issue is resolved: the problem was Chrome and the solution is simply to use another browser thank you everyone who helped! ;-; ❤

i've never encountered this extension; this sounds like an issue with you computer(s). what operating system do you use? when saving images to upload, do you have any options like "save as" or "export" that allow you to choose the file format?
I'm not sure what's going on, but I just tried it out myself with a few items and discovered that it's actually doing the same for me as well.
I'm using the latest version of Chrome and right click "Save As" option, and some items come up with the .webp extension while others come up with .png like normal.
For example overlay comes up as .webp while comes up as .png
This is the first time I've noticed this as well, so maybe it has something to do with the latest Chrome update? I really don't know though.
[edit]Also if I save it as a .webp file and then go to open it, it opens the file in Chrome with some weird URL thing.
Perhaps this should be moved to bugs?
I know pointed this issue out to me last night. It seems to happen with newer items released over the past two weeks? I was able to save items out of the subetique pizza line without this problem, but when we tried to save the overlay for the , the option is to save it as a .webp file.
For me at least, I get the regular "save image as" along with the regular dialog upon right click. It's when I go to save an image that the only options are .webp and "all files" in the dropdown menu option. Trying to manually save the image as a .png while selecting 'all files' doesn't work, and gives an error when I try to open it on my computer.
[edit] Actually I don't know what the correlation is with the items, as far as which save as .webp. I just tried saving the Blackheart Blade posted and it let me save as a png.
Oh great, is this going to be one of those bugs that affects everyone differently with different items/images? ;~;
Also yeah I tried the same thing with trying to force saving it as a .png file and it just made it give an error for me too.
[edit]Although I'm not sure if this is a Subeta issue or a browser issue. If it's a browser issue, IDK if they can do anything to fix it or not...
According to Google: WebP is a modern image format that provides superior lossless and lossy compression for images on the web. Using WebP, webmasters and web developers can create smaller, richer images that make the web faster
Yeah I noticed that much, but I don't like being forced to use it. I also saw that it's been developed by Google, which is why I'm assuming it may have had something to do with the recent Chrome update, in which case it wouldn't be anything on Subeta's end. Although I'm not sure why only some images seem to be forcing us to use the .webp file type instead of .png, and it's weird that it would be different images affected for different people.
All of these overlays are saving as pngs for me in Firefox, but I just switched to Chrome and it wants to save the Galaxy Hair Spray as a webp (the sword and amulet are still pngs though).

Seems like it probably is a browser thing then.
I think even with Chrome though, it wasn't doing this until somewhat recently. I don't usually save images on Subeta though, so I don't know exactly when this would have changed.
Kind of annoying that we have no choice but to save it with that format for some images though. :/
It's a browser thing, specifically with Chrome. I saved images in IE just fine surprisingly.
"If you are using the Google Chrome browser you may have noticed that images on select websites, many Google properties like Google Play for example, display images in Google's webp format and not a standard format like jpg or png.
Google claims that webp reduces the size of images significantly in comparison to png and jpg. It reduces the file size in comparison to png images by up to 26%, and by up to 34% in comparison to jpg images.
If you are running Chrome, you get webp images exclusively on those websites, while Firefox or Internet Explorer users get the standard image formats instead. The websites in question check the browser you are connecting with and either deliver webp if supported, or fall back to jpg or png if it is not."
I ended up getting a Chrome extension that lets me right click and 'save as png' to avoid any further issues, especially since I save a ton of avatar images from this site to form avatars in paint programs. Even if you change the filename to .png, or try to open the .webp file in photoshop, none of that works. Copying the image and pasting it into a paint program or messenger makes the background disappear (except for in Discord), so the only workaround I've found is the Same Image As PNG extension.
