Here we need to solve two puzzles for chapter 3.
Amy edit: Since this is a puzzle, and everyone may want to try to solve it, please use spoiler code to post your answers and/or reasoning. :)

</p>Well, one other team member came up with your second answer and mailed it to me...
Oi, this is a hard puzzle, though! Or at least it looks hard at first glance. I haven't tried solving it yet, though, I guess...

Okay, a little bit of math later, and the four digits aren't that hard, at least to get close to the answer... I agree, it must be:
my answer
2,7,6,5 or 2,7,5,6.
What makes you think it's the first more than the second?
my reasoning here
Since it uses digits, and not 0, each of the four must be 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, or 9.
According to carving 6, the first two multiplied must be 14. That means they would have to be 1 and 14 (not a digit), or 2 and 7. So, they must be 2 and 7.
According to carving three, the the first digit is not a 7 or 8. That means our first two must be 2, and then 7, not the other way around.
According to carving five, the four digits must be 420 when multiplied together. 420 divided by 14 (the first two digits) is 30. That means the last two digits must be multiples of 30 (1 and 30, 2 and 15, 3 and 10, or 5 and 6). Only 5 and 6 are a pair made up of single digits.
That's where I get stuck, though. How do we decide if they come as 5, then 6, or 6 and then 5?

:) Update from GR in the questions thread.
reasoning
7 & 8 so, 2
leaving 7
420 /9 = 46.6 /8 = 52.2 /6 = 70 /5 = 84 /4 = 105 /3 = 140
27=14 146=84 84*5 = 420
2 7 6 5
Edit: actually, when I do the math again, 6 and 5 are interchangeable.....2765 was just my first successful sequence I hit ^^;

Okay, so it sounds like we have that puzzle more or less figured out. All that remains is the image. :/ I'm struggling with that one. I've done loads of that kind of puzzle, but I just seem to be being thrown off by the massive size...

Just got caught up today on everything and I'm happy to see the first puzzle seems to be figured out? Numbers and math are not my strong point at all... I will try dabbling with the image though because at least there's an image to use. My sister is a lot better at these kinds of things. :P
EDIT: ... and I just opened the fullsize image and I'm instantly lost. I barely understand how these work or what the rules. ._. still going to give it a shot
EDIT 2: I'm trying to play one of these online on a much smaller scale and I still don't get it... the rules are going over my head...
EDIT 3: okay... it took me 28 minutes to solve one 5x5 of these online and that included trying to google the answer just so I could get a grasp of how these work... I think I understand how it works now but I'm still very intimidated by the wayword one. >.< the second online one took me under 5 minutes though so maybe I'm getting better... it's still only 5x5 though, the wayword one is huuuge!
I'm printing this puzzle out and taking it to my grans. The man can do a 5 star sudoku in an hour. This should be fun for him.

Maybe make sure it that's allowed? I don't know if we can have outside help.
^_^ Haha! When my mom saw it, it seemed to get her puzzle-drive going. She loves doing all types of puzzles every week on some puzzle site. She seemed more interested in how many dif. puzzles she could do on the site we found.
If you look, there seems to be a website in the black corner of the puzzle image. It seems to lead to a site that is maybe Russian? But has English words all over. Would it be okay to work on the puzzle there, you think? :)
I've done these types of puzzles before, but never really on this scale. Plus, I usually go for the color-based ones as they are easier. Good luck to all those attempting this! ^_^
How are people coming with the second puzzle? I've gotten maybe a third done... Anyone getting closer to done?

@ rainestorme I can't make heads nor tails of it. :( I've stared and stared at the sheet and I haven't been able to mark a single square, it's way too big and I still barely grasp how it works... I'm horrible with anything that involves numbers as it is and this looks like someone is depicting anxiety on paper. I wish it was possible to do one square at a time or something but that's impossible because of the scale. >_< I'm so sorry that I've basically been useless this round.
With these, I always start with the lines that have most covered... For example, there are a possible eighty squares per column, and 75 per row... So, if there are sections of filled squares equally 60 or 70, then that's a good place to start...
Here is what I have so far. The grey squares are ones I know SHOULDN'T be filled, and the turquoisy-blue (depending on the light) are ones that should be filled. Green lines are my own notes for guesswork, and don't really mean anything... :P

I'm making progress, slowly but surely. And of the rest of you can feel free to print off one of my status reports, and try your hand at it starting with what I've done, if you like.
Hopefully I'll manage to finish it in time to submit, but it wouldn't hurt to have a few more versions to compare, and make sure it's right! And if I DON'T manage to finish, well... Yeah...
I think you might be right... It DOES seem to be shaping into a wolf's face... :P Unfortunately, not a very symetrical one, so that doesn't help any with the puzzle, but yeah...

Arghhh!!!! Messed it up somewhere near the top of the wolf's head... I spent about two hours redrawing it neatly from scratch, and just wound up getting a new problem slightly to the side.. So the top of the head is messed up, and I don't know why or where...

Whew! Well, I've been working on that wolf, (Which kinda looks like he's snarling at you) and I THINK I'm about halfway. I was using that Russian website cause it lets you check if you got things right. Unfortunately, it only tells you five at a time and it only gives you 100 chances. (Which isn't much considering the size of this thing ;) ) I could earn more checking points by doing other, smaller puzzles; but I don't feel we have time for me to figure out that dang penguin... *:P
Along with that,..... I just tried to figure out how to screenshot it or something and couldn't really get it.. If all else fails, I'll re-do it (looking back and forth with what I have already) into paint. [I has no printer, just a lonely laptop we share... ^_^]
Well! That's my update! Good luck everyone! <3

Actually, that's about where my grandfather and I got too. Though, he says something doesn't seem right with the bottom rows.....We're trying again tomorrow.
Trying to catch up the last 5 years
Yeah, it's such a hard one!!! I had to start over, so my paper and ink one is a little neater. If I wind up being successful, I can also upload a photo or scan of it.
Basically, anyone who gets close, post whatever you've got, and we'll use which ever looks nicest in the end. :)
