This is an RP challenge, the last one of the game. You must split up your team to fight with the different factions according to your established characters. These are your choices:

Join Djoni and the Wolves. This is a good choice if you are a werewolf, of course, or if you have a vicious style of battling and do not want to join the Vamps. This should be a rough-and-tumble very physical approach.

Join Lysandra and the Vamps. If you have always wanted to write a scene with blood dripping, or if you&;re a vampire yourself, this would be a good choice, This is the other "savage" faction.

Want hand-to-hand or Ninja style battle? Join Tanaka and the Singari. This is a different approach and if you have a rogue/thief nature, it should suit you fine.

Alchemists and Magic users may want to lift off in the ships with Lucien and the Pyrates, Drop bomb concoctions or shoot down spells. It might be amusing.

Along with the Bards, Mages and Alchemists may also find defending with Junu and the Crystanians is the best choice for you. There is less actual combat in this choice, but more caretaking of those inside the castle.

Obviously, you don&;t have to cover all the factions. You each will choose the option you think best fits your individual character, and members of a team may find themselves choosing the same faction. However, you cannot lump the whole team in one place. There should be at least some division, even with a small team.

The whole idea here is to make this as creative and involving as you can. There will be pieces which you must blend together in order to make it work as a whole piece.

Deadline: 13 Sept

Now, on to the challenge. When we mentally removed the objects in question, which was not difficult, we found beautiful individual HAs. In fact, that was the issue. We found nine teams of beautiful individual HAs, which was most certainly enough to award all teams full credit.

As to the bonus? Well, not so thrilling. This entire story has had a precision dance troupe as an important part, and the idea behind the Coppelias was shown in the chapter header:

Putting matching foregrounds and/or backdrops to show team unity is a lovely conceit, but does not create a precision troupe, which should all have been variations on the same theme, except for the male characters who were dressed as Dr. Copelius, and even he might be having a matching boutonniere if they had headdresses, etc.

So no bonuses.

However, we know you would want those points, so we will award 500 points to any and all teams, who create a coordinated look and submit it on the story thread within one week. smiles bows and courtsies

The Shrines and Temples of Time

The tiny island of Eijiro is famous for its shrines and temples dedicated to the study of various aspects of time and the animals associated with those aspects, and well worth a visit to each. Determining the location of each shrine and temple, the year it was built, and its associated animal.

1. Of the temple in Usui and Matsuno Okura, one is dedicated to the cat and the other was built in 1585.
2. The shrine dedicated to the cat was built 120 years before the temple in Funai.
3. The temple dedicated to the mouse was built sometime before the shrine in Usui.
4. The temple built in 1825 isn't dedicated to the rooster.
5. Hori Takesi was built 60 years after the structure in Niwa.
6. The shrine in Niwa was built sometime after the temple dedicated to the frog.
7. Hori Takesi isn't in Toyagi.
8. Of the structure in Miyato and the temple dedicated to the cat, one was built in 1525 and the other is Matsuno Okura.
9. Sama Takako wasn't built in 1585.
10. The temple in Toyagi, Amari Michi, and the shrine built in 1645 are three different shrines.
11. Matsuno Okura was built in 1645.
12. Yamasaki is either the structure in Nakai or the structure dedicated to the dragon.
13. The shrine built in 1705 is either Yamasaki or the temple in Toyagi.
14. Amari Michi was built sometime before the temple dedicated to the frog.
15. Okabe Honzo is also a structure of note, and the dog one of the animals of time.
16. Can the construction year of one structure ever be known?

"It looks awfully hard--and fun!" She starts drawing a grid on another sheet of parchment.

Here, you will need to split up your teams for the storyline (although you may all work together on the challenges) and put at least one member in with the "civilians," one or more to the cauldron with Irella, and at least one into the battle squads with Tanaka of Djoni. You should create a BRIEF RP designating who is doing what.

For the potions, you may use any and all ingredients found on Subeta. Deduce what is in Djoni and Lysandras potions and what effects each has, what potion could have been given to the one human "ringer doll" of the fake Coppelias, and what would be the antidote for her.

For the puzzle, simply solve it. A 4x6 grid is suggested, Lots of blanks are on line or just make your own.

(OOC: Because of the combination of two chapters, this is a multi-pronged challenge, and more time will be given. Please see the OOC thread for specific instructions. You have until 11:59 P.M. Subeta time on August 23rd. )

Part One

Irella meets your companions in the center of the maze. She is smiling at their triumph.

"I see you prove worthy partners. Shall we return now? Yes, I think so."

There is a whirl of multi-colored skirts, the sound of bells on the hem tinkling merrily, and your companions find themselves back inside the Singari wagon with you. (It really IS bigger on the inside. So strange!)

Despite the spacious room, it&;s an uncomfortable gathering. Lysandra refuses to sit near Clytie, sneering about hating faeries, but still wants to keep a proximity to Junu, Madi makes faces at Larianne whenever she thinks she can get away with it, and you are fascinated by the crystal ball and ticking clock without a face-glass sitting on the table in front of Irella.

The Singari woman speaks. "Now that you and your companions have an understanding of the wisdom of the Voices, I believe the gears of time will show us the key to our difficulties and where we should go next."

She waves a hand over the clock, and it speaks:
"The Gears shall help you, but only if you prove yourself wise. We shall pose to you five riddles, at least three of which you must answer correctly. You will have only one chance on each. Only then shall the crystal reveal its truth."

The ball remains dark, swirling with murky vapors, and the clock begins in a voice that sounds like its own:

"Riddle One: As you can see, I have no glass. Right now, my hands say it is 6 o&;clock and ticking. But how nice it would be for my hands to show midnight. One touch on the hands will advance me one hour. What is the minimum number of times you&;d have to touch me so I could have what I desire?"

Another voice, female and teasing, chimes in next. "Riddle Two: My clothing&;s soft as velvet dear, though under earth my dwellings lie, and when above it I appear. my enemies do me decry. The gardener&;s hate for me is fine. I spoil his works as he does mine. What am I?"

The third voice cuts in, sharp as a blade: "Riddle Three: In the land of the dead, there is a tomb of family of a long gone king. In it lie two husbands with their two wives, two fathers with their two daughters, two grandmothers with their two granddaughters, two mothers with their two sons, two sisters with their two brothers, and two girls with their two mothers. Yet just six names are carved on the tombstone, one for each inhabitant within, but how is this possible?"

As the fourth speaks, you sense an elegance and a sense of familiarity with material trappings. An image of a sign appears on the dark wooden side wall of the wagon. It shows "ARMA" in white block letters with a blank speace at the front.

"Obviously, the sign should appropriately read &;Karma,&; says the rich voice, but the &;K&; has gone missing, and the damage disturbs me. Riddle Four: So, if I give you the pieces below with a working space, can you construct a proper &;K&; for me? You may twist and turn the pieces as you desire.

The last voice is warm and pulls you in. It could be male of female, but regardless, it resonates inside you in its own unique way. It is simply the voice you have always wanted to hear.

"Ah. these lovers of Riddle Five: So happy they are, with such a sense of forever. Their ages both use the same numbers, but reversed, and the difference between them is but an eleventh of their combined total. Age does not matter or the passing of time to them, but only the true feeling they have for each other. But tell me, nonetheless, what are the two ages of this couple?"

"Remember," the clock ticks out, "you only need three to clear the fog. Perhaps a small reward could be given for all five, but three suffice."

(OOC: Your team must solve three of the above riddles. You do NOT need to roleplay, just send me your answers by smail on or before July 29th at 11:59 p.m. Subeta time. Questions and comments on the OOC thread for this chapter.)

For the companion challenge, you may send in whatever companions you have. You must visit each of the four open areas within the maze. You may enter from any outside path, but you will not be able to reach the center wheel unless you have correctly completed all of the other areas first. You may start wherever you wish and your companions may split up or go together. We are looking for creativity here. Many solutions are possible, but you must meet these critera:

You must attribute the correct "Voice" to each area, and list which area you entered by letter.

You cannot assign the same "Voice" to more than one area.

The areas and their designations are:
A: Upper Left
B: Lower left
C: Upper right
D: Lower right
E: The Center Medallion

For area A, only gentle companions may enter.
Area B: Only very clever companions should enter. A clue wrapped around another deck of Singari cards is hidden here, provided you select the correct shrubbery to search. You may search only one. Pick an elegant companion who fortune smiles upon and choose wisely.
Area C: Is occupied by a grouchy gnome who loves riddles. You must devise one that would draw him out of his house on the far end. You must not make him mad.
Area D: Only strong and agile companions may enter, as the room is full of raised traps disguised as planters.
AreaE: Will open to all if the four challenges are completed.

RP all these areas for your companions, and combine into one entry posted by your captain or co-captain.

(These requirements may also serve as hints. :) )

For the HA challenge, vanish yourself. Create HAs without you. Any animals can be used, not just ones that match your companions, and you may use all items on Subeta.

The room beyond the door is illuminated by a large rotating ball that throws an ever-changing spectrum over the room. In the center is a large wolf statue holding and engraved plaque that reads: Gallery of Choices.

Walls all round are lined with pictures, five of which are illuminated by spotlights. One is an elaborate singari wagon, two are of the surrounding forest--one by day; one by night. The last two consist of the balcony where you presume the Prine Minister met his end, and the last is one a wall panel with a lion&;s head. You notice several panels like that on the side walls in this very room. As you ponder what to do next, Tamara dances in.

"Oh, so many of you!" she exclaims happily, then drops a curtsy. "I&;m Tamara, or the Madcap Princess. You can call me Tami, Mara, or Madi, whichever you like. But I&;ll answer a bonus question or two if you pick the one I like best.

"I see you have choices to make. I&;ll help you get started, but I&;ll warn you ahead of time. Beside your starting point, you can only pick two to visit. If you pick the wrong ones, you&;ll miss out on points. I like this room because everyone argues each time there are chices. Adults arguing are fun to watch, and I&;m learning for when I grow up."

You can think of several things to say to her right about now, but you do need her help...

"However, in order to get my help on where to start, you have to solve my puzzle. It&;s pretty hard."

She shows you a picture:

"I need at least ten characters shown, named and numbered, and the wizard of words who created them all.
You can do that, right. Djoni says you&;re all the best!"

She hops onto the wolf&;s left foot and perches happily, waiting for you to solve the picture.

(OOC: This is the first part of Chapter Four. You need to solve Tamara&;s "Where&;s Waldo" variation, and smail the solution to me by Friday, July 7 at 11:59 pm Subeta time. Okay , I've updated the links (so hopefully everything from the last few weeks is in there) and I've updated the scores. :)

As of the end of Chapter 4 (last one scored so far) we're in the lead, so hopefully we're still in good shape, even if we missed some points from the last two chapters...

Updated to include scores for Chapter 5. Also, bonus points went to the judges' favorite HA's...

Winners were selected according to the following:

Quote
Below are our favorite HAs for this chapter. We thought they were all well integrated with their backgrounds, and yet invoked the story told in each role-play very well. They also showed attention to detail, reasons for any look that was &;cluttered,&; and an overall sense of style. Attention to color and light was also very evident. We congratulate the makers!

Congratulations to for getting us 500 bonus points!!

Okay, everyone, the new chapter is out! I've updated all of the links, but here is what is important...

To start with, we need to divide into three groups, puzzlers, scientists/sorcerers, and battlers. EVERYONE can help with the puzzle/magic tasks. For now, the groups are purely for roleplay purposes.

Head here to divide into the groups.

We can also begin solving the two puzzles (no roleplay necessary). Logic puzzle here

Also included links to the extra challenge, which I listed as it's own chapter, chapter 7B (posted AFTER chapter C9-10, for now, though I'll probably shift it down next to 7 once it's timed out)

WS5 Has been officially declared complete, aside from an epilogue GreenRowan will write herself. That means the prize shop is open, and after final scores were tallied, we're the winners!!!!

Quote

After much debate and consideration for all the difficulties and disasters that your teams went through, the judges have decided to award a full 2500 points to every team who submitted their last RP, and a 1000 point "consolation" award to any team who came unglued and didn&;t make it!

As for me, I was SO impressed by the last submission that I want to incorporate at least something from every team&;s entry into the epilogue, which I will post as soon as I figure out how to do this and make the flow go.

Obviously, there are still many things unanswered, and at least one "villain" is still undiscovered and at large. Dangers lurk in many places, and this story is unfinished. Crystania is not out of peril, Sinhae is still in thrall, and even the Borderlands are not out of evil&;s reach, as you shall see.

But that is another chapter for another time (hopefully, one free of the storms and trials of this one!)

For now:

WS5 is officially OVER! (There WILL be an epilogue!)

The Squirrel&;s Bounty is OPEN! Gold Medalists please pick a prize each. (There are three prizes each!)

Comment or smail your choice of prize. (Silver will be notified when Gold has selected, and then Bronze, and then we go again, ya-ya-as usual.)

End Rankings:

Gold:
SQUIRREL TALES
CHIMERIAD
STEVE

Silver:
ORGANIZED CHAOS
FALLEN ANGELS
GALACTIC MISFITS
TRAVELER
LEGENDARY JALAPENOS

Bronze:
REAVER

Congrats to all of you! You are awesome!

Thanks for playing. I hope to see some of you for WS6!
