So I don't know if I've been extremely lucky or extremely unlucky recently.

In April my boyfriend was hit by a car while riding his bike. It was a hit and run, and we never found them, but he walked away with minimal bodily and bike damage.

In May while I was visiting family out of state, my boyfriend calls me and said he got into an accident and my car was totaled (he was borrowing it with my permission - better on gas). A driver was making a u-turn and ran right into him. His friend got a little banged up but nothing was broken, same with him, and the other driver was ok too. It was the other driver's fault and the insurance process went smoothly. It was emotional because I was very attached to that car and I mourned it. I purchased a new car less than a week after the accident.

Fast forward a couple weeks to this past Thursday. I just dropped my boyfriend off at his job and I was headed home to take a nap before I went to work. Someone tried to make a left turn and hit my passenger side. My car spun around, fell onto its side, and slid into a ditch. I had to crawl up out the passenger window to get out. I walked away with a cut and a bruise. The other driver was ok but I never saw them. I hadn't even made my first payment on this car and it was already totaled.

So...yeah. I'm not mad or scared over any of this, I'm mostly just in disbelief. I can't help but laugh about it! Either we've been very lucky to have barely been injured, or very unlucky because people seem to keep hitting us while turning left. I can say this though: I'm VERY grateful for insurance, grateful that we're all ok, and grateful for seat belts/helmets.

So...how has every one else's summer been? Anything wild happen? Anything miraculous?

Oh no, glad you're all ok! At least you're probably not due for another string of bad luck for a while now, right?

I've developed a super sore neck muscle but that's like the most boring old person injury, hah. All that slouchin' catching up with me. SO WILD.

I'd say you're super lucky. Nothing interesting happened to me lately, hah.

So glad you all are okay. May seem unlucky that they happened in the first place, but super lucky that each time, you all only ended up with a few scratches at best. ...maybe except for the fact that someone totaled your new car, lol. Someone I know (an acquaintance; friends with her on Facebook) got t-boned the other week by a car that was literally pulling out of the dealership. The other person had literally just bought a brand new car and wrecked into her minutes later.

This doesn't even compare but I've been sick the past 4 weeks now lol. Normally I take some NyQuil and whatnot and tough it out, but WOW nothing was giving me any sort of relief. It was a lot worse than my normal colds too. I finally went to a walk-in clinic (since I currently don't have a doctor) but they wouldn't prescribe me an antibiotic because I "wasn't running a fever." Everyone thinks I may have/had bronchitis which is very possible but that's just a self-diagnosis. I'm finally starting to get over it though. Now I just have a lingering cough (with the occasional coughing fit) and a very sore side lol.

I'm glad none of you were seriously hurt.

Nothing terribly exciting has happened yet this summer aside from going to the beach, but it's my birthday today so I got plans to make it exciting.

I certainly hope we've reached our quota of bad luck for the year, haha! My neck was extremely stiff after my accident, I guess I got whiplash, so you have my sympathy!

Sometimes no excitement can be a good thing :)

Oh man, that sucks for your friend and for the other driver! I would be so embarrassed if I hit someone right after buying a new car. Being t-boned is probably so scary, too. Glad they're ok! And I hope you feel better soon, that does sound like bronchitis. A few years ago I got mono - I was sick for almost a month, and then I developed a tonsil infection! It's pretty common after someone has mono, but still!

Thank you - the worst of it was when my bf got hit by the car on his bike. He had some bad road rash and fractured a carpal bone in his wrist. And happy birthday!!!!!! Hope you had fantastic day! :D

Oh my goodness, I've had mono before too! I got it during my spring 2013 semester at college. I remember the school doc asking "have you been kissing a boy?" and I was like "My boyfriend is an hour and a half away and I don't have a car here on campus." Sooooo yea. Wow mono was horrible. My friend bought me a pint of ice cream to make me feel better, but she got one with chocolate chunks in it and it was incredibly painful to swallow lol. She tried.

I can't imagine what your car insurance is going to be after that.

Thank goodness you were able to walk away from the car accidents. I hope you got checked out really good, the shock of the impact is something you may only start feeling days afterwards.

I got rare-ended back in November. I paid for my car, and still paying on it, and it hurt to see the damage and learn how much it cost to get it repaired. It was covered by insurance. I went through the process of collecting the police reports and everything because I was worried about being penalized or being blamed. I have to also agree after two accidents and totaled twice in such a short time, even though it is a real possibility and junk happens, I wonder if your car insurance will go up.

My car insurance with my old car was extremely cheap because it was so old so when I bought the new car, it went up anyway because it went from basic coverage/liability to full coverage, as is what happens when you owe money on a car, plus I went from a 1994 year vehicle to a 2015 one. I can't say with 100% accuracy that it went up because of the accidents because it had already quadrupoled! However, both accidents were the other driver's faults, so neither claims were against me, nothing was put on my driving record, and my insurance company never contacted me about a change in my insurance. SO. While I'm no expert in these things, I'm confident that they won't penalize me, but I can't say that it won't raise eyebrows (whether in shock or suspicion) that two cars had been totaled less than a month apart. It's all happened so recently that it'll take time for everything to settle down. Sorry for that wall of text - that's all the info I've gathered from everyone over the past week. I'll be sure to contact my insurance company if my insurance DOES go up. Because how am I a liability? Not like I asked a target to apparently be painted on my vehicles! OTL

oh, when i was younger (like, 15-17, I'm 30 and I don't drive so I don't know how true this is--plus I was taught it by my high school which also taught that women will get cervical cancer if they sleep with too many different men), but every little thing can cause higher car insurance. Like the insurance could see you as a liability, even if not at fault, you're a high risk case because of the places you live/work/drive to. Again, NO IDEA if that's true. It was my high school in a small conservative midwestern farming town. They were wrong about a lot of things.

The most exciting thing this summer is that I'm going to be flying in an airplane for the first time in many years. We're going to visit family at the end of July and make a vacation out of it, and my parents actually sprung for airfare. I'm not really sure if I'm more excited or nervous though. I'm going to have to do some research on how to make my ears not hurt, because I have an ear condition that's new that I didn't have last time I flew...which was when I was maybe 13 I think? And now I'm...well into adulthood, lmao.

Sounds like a serious case of bad luck as far as your poor cars go, but good luck that no one was hurt! They say that things come in threes, so hopefully you're in the clear for a little while because jesus. I had a week of garbage at the beginning of the year that came in a set of three incidents in a row (one of the dogs I was looking after passed away, got into a car accident the next day -- no one was hurt, thankfully, and then I had a cracked tail-light on a rental car that the rental place tried to blame me for), not a fun way to start 2017 haha!

I would definitely get that whiplash checked out too, and maybe go and see a chiropractor? It helped me a lot when I got it from falling down my goddamn stairs of all things...

I've heard all that stuff too. I know it can fluctuate depending on where you live (when I moved from a big city to a suburb of a different city my monthly payments went down) and I know it can fluctuate depending on how many miles a year you drive (I haven't experienced it first hand but if you're, say, a trucker or a courier, I'm sure your insurance would go up because you're on the road much more than your average joe). So I guess to some extent those are true, but there are also a lot of rumors that aren't true.

Ooh that is exciting! I remember the first time I flew by myself and I was sooooo nervous but everything ended up just fine. Throughout the trip I kept telling myself that thousands of people do it every day and they are fine, haha! I hope everything goes well - I would do research too, because better safe than sorry! I'm sure that will be ok too, though :)

Awwwww that stinks! I'm sorry your year started out so badly, hopefully things have improved since then! I'd hate to get yelled at by the rental place (the rental guys recognized me when I went in the second time, I was embarrassed lol). I know they're just doing their job but maybe they didn't catch it! You would've remembered if you knocked into something, haha! And my whiplash has gotten better, I'm pretty much all better, just waiting for the cut on my foot to heal because I can't wear anything that covers the top part of my foot and puts pressure on it, so I've been down to like two pairs of shoes since the accident lol

Yes, thankfully things have been much better haha! When we went to said rental place, it was dark and they were like 2 minutes from closing and doing the inspection on the vehicle with a damn pen light, and like... you could barely tell it was cracked in the day time let alone in the dark (and me having just come from an accident was shaken af and not particularly paying attention to details). I was so pissed about the whole thing because they were like, 'well, we'll look into it and then see.' Then almost a month later I get a letter saying they're slamming me with a $400 bill for this tail light and I was like, 'yeah, no.' Thankfully their customer service guy that I spoke to (who worked for the general company, and not at that location) was totally on my side and I told him what had happened and they dismissed the bill.

And that's good! Foot injuries suck haha! They just make everything such a pain.
