I have literally just got home from Download Festival in the UK, which was my first ever. I had a 5-day camping ticket so am now feeling particularly gross and can't wait to shower. The music and people were incredible though, and can't wait for next year. However, I'm now feeling as if I'm on a low as I had an amazing time, and now have to go back to reality :(
Keep me occupied and tell me more about your experiences! Which festivals have you been to? They don't necessarily need to be music-related. Any cool stories?
(Really hoping this isn't a topic already/in the wrong forum.)
I feel like that after any trip or vacation. My 'real life' is work work work and then work some more. I just went kayaking yesterday with friends and now I'm at work today and it's so blaaaaah.
I haven't gotten to any festivals this year though. I've not done any camping ones, mainly because I can only stand large groups of people for so long and I don't trust people enough to sleep among them in a tent, lol. But we have quite a few day or weekend festivals around here that I'll go to sometimes. None have been on yet this summer, but my favorite is the art fair that's a city-wide music and art festival that takes over the whole city, streets and all. The food trucks alone are sooo goood.
Yeah that is exactly what I am like. I'm currently at university so I'm normally studying. It's just nice to have a break from the real world, but sucks when you have to go back to it.
I was a bit nervous about the whole camping part, but my boyfriend and I rented a locker to keep valuables in at least. Oh wow, that sounds really cool. We have nothing like that here. But the food trucks were so good at the festival too; basically had pizza every day haha
I've been to Heavy Montreal. There was no camping allowed so my friend and I stayed in a nice cushy hotel lol.
I may go to Houston Open Air this year because there's a few bands I'd like to see, but it was such a fiasco last year that I don't really feel like buying tickets until it's closer to the date. Not to mention my boyfriend's work schedule is so unpredictable that I'd only commit if I knew he could go too. They switched venues and now there's only one stage. And you can get general admission where you can barely even see the stage, or you can buy a seat...
Well, next Saturday (the 24th) I am going to Lantern Fest! I went for the first time last October and had such a great time, so my fiance and I got tickets to go again with a group of friends. We ordered the tickets in January so it's exciting that it's finally coming up again!
It literally feels like a scene from a Disney movie (Tangled!) Once it's dark enough, we send those paper lanterns up to the sky. It is freaking gorgeous and an incredible experience. The group we went with in October are all busy with vacations so we're going with another group of friends who haven't been before. It's just an evening event. Meet up around 4ish and there's some live music, overpriced food, etc. Eat some s'mores. Have a good ole time.
I go to Firefly in Delaware, USA every June and I was NOT prepared the first time around. I got the tickets as a birthday present. I really had a blast, so many good concerts but the worst thing ever was the dust? I guess it is better than rain so it wasn't all muddy but I would have fought someone for a bandanna to cover my face with. I think the best part was that in a second of the woods they had a clearing just full of hammocks for people to take naps in. It was so nice at 11pm at night after a full day of walking and dancing around to just crash into a hammock, listen to a concert through the trees and get ready to pack up for the night.
I would really like to attend a festival, like the Hurricane festival or Wacken Open Air...HOWEVER my dire need for hygienic standards and the fact that light shows make me feel like crap so far have kept me from risking it. We have a festival in my area so I could go there over the day and drive back home for sleeping and showering but the majority of bands that are playing there aren't my style, lol
