NO THE VIRUS WASN'T FROM SUBETA. I'm just so angry the computer isn't even a year old yet. The virus affects the internet. When I click on ANYTHING it sometimes redirects me to other websites some are blocked, others sadly aren't. I can't find how to fix it on Google, and quite frankly I'm too afraid to visit unfamiliar sites right now, let alone download these programs they suggest to get rid of viruses because for all I know they are all malware too. It's freaking pissing me off and if my mom finds out she'll kill me. She doesn't use the computer thankfully but it's making me so upset and stressed out she's gonna notice in upset soon. My life sucks. :( I'm on my tablet by the way. Internet isn't affected with the redirect crap on here luckily.

"Topics in the Bragging and Complaining board are to be Subeta related only." I think this belongs elsewhere?
Yes this is for bragging/complaining about subeta only, moving this over to chit chat ^_^
Oh no! What operating system are you running?
It's an Acer computer Aspire T with Windows 10....
Sorry for posting on the wrong forum thanks for not freezing my account that would of made this day... so.. much.. better

Minimods don't have the power of the banhammer, and we don't freeze for that sort of thing. ;)
What antivirus software are you running? Anything?
I sincerely recommend downloading Malwarebytes. They saved my ass when I had a really bad virus a few years ago (haven't had one since). Also I run Pandacloud Antivirus. It's quiet, does exactly what I need it to and has no annoying ads or pop-ups or ad-on shit like a lot of other ones do.
I had McAphee but I have to pay for it now cuz my trial ran out or whatever and my mom hates buying things off the internet...
Malwarebytes was something that came up when I googled how to get rid of this virus, but like I mentioned I don't know who I can trust online anymore, what sites are safe and what ones aren't. But if it worked for you... And is Panda Cloud free? Can you mail me the direct urls to these sites where I can download them? Like I said I'm petrified.
BTW I love the fox picture you have! I love foxes!

I sent you links for both via mail so hopefully they work out for you! And thanks! I can't remember where I found it, but I've had it for a while haha!
McAfee is terrible. I definitely don't recommend it, and neither does my IT guy.
Malwarebytes is awesome for maintenance and cleanup, but active scanning (preventative antivirus) costs money. It gets a lot of hate but Microsoft Security Essentials is free and designed to work pretty seamlessly with your operating system, so it's not a bad choice as far as freeware goes. Avast is another popular freebie, but I've seen too many computers get infected while running it to personally recommend it.
Regardless, the best thing to do is keep one active-scanning antivirus (MSE, Avast, Panda, whatever) and Malwarebytes as your backup. Between the two, you should be able to keep your system clean.
I also recommend something like Adblock in your browser. Adblock for Chrome even has a feature that not only blocks ads, but can help to prevent infection, so that's a win in my book.
@ Dill Avast has been a delightful resource hog on my computer. Slowed down bootup, relentless popups of "SPECIAL SALE OFFER, BUY THE FULL VERSION NOW!". I had to run it in silent mode. Finally had enough, switched to AVG Free. So far, decent, though it randomly updates itself despite me setting it to manual updates. Even the menus and settings more or less match Avast's clusterfuck.
Another decent free antivirus is Avira. I've used it years ago and it was alright. My friend swears by it, but it has really slow scan speed.
Kaspersky is... a no. McAfee - not even while drunk.
Depending on how computer-savvy the OP is, Comodo Cleaning Essentials can be excellent with weeding out stubborn viruses and trojans. The antivirus, however, is kind of... meh.
I've never heard of Panda Cloud until now. Huh. I'll have to check it out.
The one thing I'll say about Kaspersky is that they occasionally have virus-specific tools that will clean out an infection for a particular virus when all else fails. Otherwise, no, haha.
I've picked up viruses on both AVG Free and Avira, so I quit using them. That said, the antivirus-du-jour changes every couple of years... usually, the top dog gets a little too cocky and falls behind its competition, and a former "meh" AV moves to the forefront. Lather, rinse, repeat. So YMMV, obviously.
I used to use Panda ActiveScan -- it was a remote (no download) AV that was awesome for viruses that interfered with onboard AVs. It went the way of the dodo, though, and became a download product. I haven't been able to find a good remote replacement for the pesky guys.
Of course, now this laptop is used almost 100% for work, so I generally don't go anywhere/download anything/etc. that could put it at risk.
Ah, yup! Definitely true on the top dog changing every few years. I remember when Norton was The Bees Knees. Then BitDefender came, and Kaspersky. Avira popped up literally out of nowhere, I'm still surprised that it's holding up so well among the free antivirus programs. The only constant I can remember is that McAfee has always been pretty bad. :'D Even going back 10-15 years.
CCE is pretty good if you want a portable thing you can keep on your USB, but it does require reboots a couple of times during scans. It also comes with a few other tools. Killswitch in particular is very good if you need to see if something's running in the background and kill it quick, or find if something's in your startup without your permission. Amusingly, it refuses to kill the latest instances of Google Update - I've yet to find anything that can kill the Chrome auto-updates. I don't even use it as a main browser and it's driving me bananas.
I sadly lost my USB, which sucks, because it was a microSD card + microSD USB reader stick that had all my favorite stuff from my former computer's hard drive (which has been misplaced and is SOMEWHERE in my garage). But I'll have to look into that -- that sounds amazing. Do you have a link you can share?
I love Chrome. ;___;
Ffffffff... ._. Oh crap, I would've cried. Time to get the shovel and go dig through the garage! Here's the link to CCE's site. I only really use it in the event of something that absolutely refuses to get out, or can't be detected by my antivirus. Boot up in Safe Mode w/out networking, scan and let things take their course.
Chrome is amazing for speed and flash-based things. :( I only wish it would let me pick if I want to update it or not. I didn't see an option to turn off updates in the settings and it's just... why.
I think it's probably just because if it were optional, some people would never get around to updating it, then pick up viruses and complain that it's not secure enough of a browser. xD I kind of have the opposite problem, though -- it should auto-update, but I find that I frequently have to go into the version page to force it to. But then, my laptop is slowly dying, and that's been causing some weird bugs here and there.
As for the garage... sigh. I never fully unpacked after I bought this house 8 years ago, and then my husband moved in and brough a lifetime's worth of stuff with him from his apartment AND his mom's house (his parents never once made him throw anything out in his entire life, even when they moved. The amount of sheer junk he owns is mind-boggling. I've been forcing him to sort though his crap and throw out the trash, and set aside other stuff for a yard sale. We literally had the entire garage packed floor to ceiling with storage totes. Some of it is admittedly mine, but the majority was his!!!
True! But I'd still prefer an option to being forced to update whether I want to or not. Some versions are simply more stable than others. Or they end up with cosmetic changes and whatnot. I know I refused to update Firefox for the longest time when they went with the visual update of moving browser tabs to the top of the window, then the address bar, then the bookmarks. x) The bookmarks and tabs were switched in position, I was used to the old layout and the drastic change was so jarring.
... 😯 Sounds like you're going to need a bigger shovel. A much, much bigger shovel. But seriously, I feel you. My family in general is terrible with sorting things out and getting rid of junk, and I'm trying my hardest not to fall into that hole.
I'm going a bit off-topic. :'D Let us know how things worked out!
This is how computers get bricked - parents see "VIRUS," think all manner of hideousness and make sure that no one knows how to properly use a computer because of the evils of viruses. Yeah, they're annoying as all get out but come now. Calm thyself.
It's not the end of the world.
Any computer past Windows 7 has something on it called Windows Defender, run that as full as possible, it'll take a couple hours because it'll go through everything on your system. After that, just set it to be your normal antivirus and let it do its thing. Some recommend having these heavy duty, pay as you go antiviruses but truth be told, some of those manifest as a virus unto themselves and why pay for something Defender does for free and really well? AdBlockPlus is a good extension to have too in any browser so you can avoid having those ads that give viruses anyways.
You're wise to not go on sites that you're unfamiliar with but don't let it scare you to the point of you ignore a huge problem like redirecting.

Okay, Malwarebytes found 93 files infected so I quarantined those and deleted them.
Now the panda security thing that Imperial mentioned my computer keeps blocking the download thing and it is weird because the url changes so I won't be going back there.
Still have the redirect issue and it's just not going away. I have Windows Defender guess I'll try using that...
I just re scanned with Malwarebytes and it's not finding the problem, what the hell causes the redirect crap anyway? I have adblock plus too, they aren't working....
sigh
